Bless you for making this video. I cleared the browsing data from a Tesla I am renting through the Uber program, and it messed things up big time. Suddenly, none of the entertainment apps were working or the browser. I couldn't factory reset because I dont have the login information. I had tried powering off the vehicle several times, and it didn't work. FINALLY, the break and scrolling buttons did the trick. I would say it is definitely a hard reset for the tablet. I am so relieved!
Nice video. You are correct, Tesla owes all of us one therapy session...maybe two! The hard boot finally got by sentry mode to work again. Keep up the great work.
My wife's model 3 lost the rear view cam + autosteer was gone. She rebooted twice without a change. Your video reminded me of the power off reboot which took care of it. No phone calls needed. No scheduled apt with service like with ICE cars. I love it. Thx.
Oh wow!!!!!! I’m so glad this worked for y’all! That’s awesome!!!!!!!! 😁😉 After so many things after v11 causing it to need a reboot, I’m going to start rebooting by power off after every big update. Just because why not.. it doesn’t hurt. Dang! I’m so happy! This comment just made my night! Have a great week! Both of you!
Being a newbie your video helps me a lot. I enjoy your videos a lot.You do your research, take notes, demonstrate how to do whatever you are epxlaining while clearly explaining what you are doing. Explaining something is not as thorough as actually showing how to do it. You are great…thank you
Thank you sooo much, Arthur. I wasn’t sure if should waste peoples time putting that in there, but I wanted people to be able to reference back to that and do the reboots properly. And they weren’t that easy to find because sometimes you aren’t sure what to look for. It took me a while scrolling to find stuff. So thank you!!!!!
@@SaraJAwesome I think that is very helpful. Nowadays with information overload period, you benefit the most is to know how to find the answer rather than the answer itself.
You do such a great job on these videos. First, you encourage using the in car owners manual (which even I have only used on a handful of occasions, but it's great knowing how if you are in a pinch). Second, you clearly do so much research to be sure you've thoroughly and accurately covered a subject. Third, you are so enthusiastic and high energy the whole time (shout out to Stew Dog for his video debut). This was a good topic in order to know all the ways you can reset the car (all the way from soft to hard) if you're having problems and before making a service call (where they'll probably just do one of these to correct the issue anyway).
Thank you sooooooo much for this comment, Bruce! Yes, I try really hard to not tell anybody anything without doing my own research. And even then I’m always forgetting something or don’t know everything. I wasn’t sure if I should leave in the how to find stuff in the user manual, but I’m glad I did. That way people can reference it and do things the right way instead of listening to whatever people tell them. Which is totally fine, and I’m glad we all share information but It’s always better to know that you’re for sure doing the right steps. Also, that user manual can be annoying and time consuming if you don’t know exactly what to look for and how to use it! It took me forever to make sure I didn’t miss anything! I had to cut out a lot of extra time searching for stuff even when I knew where it was! And yes, so cool that I caught the wave in the video and he told me it was him! My first time being recognized in public AND IN A VIDEO?! Epic moment for me!!!! I’m glad you think I’m high energy lol I feel like the chillest most boring TH-camr, all these other people being all loud and freaking out the entire length of the video.. it’s not in my southern nature. I’m too slow and lazy 😂
Haha, yeh I guess I mean just the right level of high energy. Not manic! I hope you are prepared for famous now that you are being recognized beyond the channel. You know, paparazzi and everything. 😉 soon you’ll be asked for autographs. Get ready! In any case, good for you. You’ve worked hard and deserve it.
😂 I actually told the kids what happened and then we all starred at each other and laughed and I said I guess I better stop driving around in my pajamas now.. dang it! Cause I do it every dang day! Lol 😂
Nice summary. One observation, however. You mentioned that when performing a cold boot to wait two minutes before turning the car back on. I have heard others cite five minutes as the recommended time to allow the car to fully power down. When I tested this on my Model 3, at around the four minute mark, I heard a whirring and (possibly) the sound of a contactor opening. Granted, five minutes is a LONG time to sit in a quiet car, but as someone with kids, maybe it will be pleasant for you. 🙂 It is also a good opportunity to wipe down the interior and clean the finger smudges off the touchscreen, which become SO obvious when it is dark.
Haha yes, for the hard reboot, Tesla recommends waiting 2 minutes. I actually wait 4 minutes though. And yeah, haha! I don’t care, anything to get away from kids, I’ll be like yeah I need to reboot my car it’s gonna take an hour and I can’t open the doors or windows.. sorry! 😂 jk! Also, yeah smudges SUCK! Hopefully my latest video including 72 voice commands for climate alone will help keep fingers off the screen!
Great video once again! And for those curious, I’ve rebooted screen while Navigate on Autopilot was enabled and NoA continued without issue and even changed lanes. 😀
Hello, What a marvelous video, that I am sure has helped many, many, Tesla owners! I admire your patience, your detailed research, and your ability to translate all of the data into, simple and easy-to-understand terms. I admire you for not having a fear of failure and always allowing yourself to be wrong when solving problems. I was taught that adversity, difficulties, and problems, are an opportunity, a challenge, and an adventure! I am grateful to you for your attention and your time in creating, producing, and editing your amazing videos!
So much good advice in this video. This video made my Day. My Tesla app acted weird, couldn't use climate control, book service nor set sentry mode. I tried so many things, reinstalling app, using hard shutdown etc. But to my surprise it was the touchscreen reboot I didn't think of that fixed the problem. I had no idea it could affect the Tesla app. Thanks again!
I hadn’t thought of it either, and then someone mentioned it on Twitter when they were having an issue and I was like omg.. I’m an idiot! Why didn’t to think of that!? So I did it, and it worked fixing 2 problems immediately that I had for 6 days! So I figured it was worth mentioning. We always think big and complicated with these machines.. but sometimes it’s something really simple:) Thank you for this comment and your support! Have a great weekend, Sean!
Awesome! I’m so glad I’m actually teaching people some new things!!!! Also, super excited for you!!!!! Let me know if you have any questions!! Thanks for your support!!!!!
Had to do this Jan 1st, and found that you really have to wait 2 minutes, and the car will go super quiet right at the end. If you don't wait long enough, the car comes back super fast - if it comes back right away on pressing the brake/opening the door it probably didn't fully shutdown. My '21 M3LR took 10 seconds or so to actually come back up when I did it right. Fixed (temporarily at least) my heat pump issue that day.
Yeah I actually wait 4 minutes because I found the same issue. I cut out all the time it actually took in my video because nobody wants to wait that long on a video. 😂 Is your heat pump issue still fixed for now? What happened with it?
Thank you for this video. It’s good to know all of the options for rebooting a Tesla. I think I will put tiny labels on the left scroll wheel , right scroll wheel , and break pedal . That will become my Bill Gates method for rebooting my Tesla. 😄. Nice detail and presentaion, you are very good at this.
Thanks Sara, you saved me a trip to TESLA Service Center. Had an issue with my Model 3 not connecting to WIFI. Tried power-off didn't work, but did reset screen as instructed and voila" it worked. Wifi function was repaired.
This was a very informative video. I saved it to my list of Tesla related content. I have only used the restarting the touchscreen option. Thanks for explaining all of the other types of reboots. Keep up the good work.
Amazing video as usual. Thank you for sharing. Your red and white hands while doing demo of first method in road haha … learnt a lot from these video but yes soft reboot I do when needed
Awesome video and thank you for the sharing, the brake pedal thing is always a myth. I asked this question FB Tesla group and got mix responses as well. For me, i will just keep 2 methods for myself whenever i need it. 1) hold down both scroll wheels..........if it that doesn't work then 2) power cycle from the screen.
Thank you!! Yes, I have gotten many mixed responses as well. But I haven’t had the chance to ask a TESLA employee so I feel like it may be a myth as well, but no way to know for sure yet. Have a great weekend! I agree same 2 methods for myself. Plus app log out.
The brake pedal used to be used for Model S hard reboots, and that advice kept getting repeated on forums, but has never had any effect during Model 3 reboots.
With me too once one Tesla guy waved hands and smiled and gave thumbs up by opening his windows while driving. A lot of them don’t look but some do look
Helpful overview, Sara. With v11, the Superchargers disappeared on my navigation map until I rebooted. Also, the right rear mirror would roll halfway down when exiting the car. Weird! One time, when I had to hard reboot the car months ago, it LOST my trip odometer data. Like you, I had one set for "lifetime" stats, but… it was gone. Thankfully, I had recorded the kWh to that point, so I renamed that trip odometer to keep track of additional kWh since then, and now have to add them together to calculate energy efficiency for the total odometer. Tsk.
Yes, I remember you telling me that, and for that reason I tested every single reboot multiple times to see if anyone would lose trips but I never lost any at all. So that must have been a bug too. Have you done the same reboot again and NOT lost the trip info? Wow that’s crazy all the stuff you dealt with.
😂 You’re the first person to get that! Or at least the first to say anything! I thought it was funny myself. Glad you enjoyed it:) I was going to put funnier things in there but it was already a monster video. Have a great week!
Nice!!!! Hey, I used to do that too! But then I got the STATS app! I thought about making and excel sheet including climate exterior temp speed etc… I still take TONS of notes though and record stuff on paper all the time. It’s become my hobby. :) ahhhh my fellow ginger! There are so few!
Another outstanding video, lots to learn but you make it easy by doing a little at a time. I live in the Villages in Florida and they have a Tesla community. Last month, with the new software a group got together with models Y and 3 to do the Light show, the Y's were on the end since the doors open. Like you, they were some pretty cool people. Had some guests in last week and went to Disney world. Went on the test track ride (which is GM sponsered) showing all the future features GM will be offering. Guess what, my Tesla already has all of them. I pointed out to them that and the Tech people said , "we have electric vehicles too" Ha Ha. I'm sounding like a snob :(. Lastly, not sure if you've done anything on the GPS but even though my Tesla (Model 3) is less than a year old, it needs to be updated. Not sure if you have done anything on that.
Thank you, Bob!!! Oh so cool y’all got together! I want to go to a meet so so bad! I’ve never gone to one. I haven’t done the light show either! I need to;) and no I have not done anything with the GPS yet on video. what exactly do you mean by being updated? What part?
Great video. Let's add 1 more way to do a real hard reset. Start by opening the driver's door and frunk as well as the right rear door. Turn off power by the power button under safety. Then In the frunk pop plastic panel around brake reservoir and Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Then move to the right rear seat area and release the rear seat and pull up gently. Then remove black styrene cover over large banana plug underneath. Pop up plug until you hear a snap. Don't need to unplug completely. Know Don't touch any thing for at least 3 minutes I wait for 5 minutes myself. Then reverse the process and you have the best Tesla reset as it clears a lot of problems the other ways don't.
✅✅✅✅✅☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 😮 Wow, Danniel! Never heard of this one! Not the specific excellent directions anyway.. Thank you for sharing!!!!! Screenshot this in case 💩 ever really hits the fan! 😂 Thank you so much sharing this with everyone. I’ll have to research this method since I know nothing about it. I assume this is the method where you disconnect the 12 V from the high voltage battery? How did you learn about it?
Thank you for the excellent videos you put out. You are very clear and easy to understand. I have been only confused by one video. A couple of months ago you put out a video of two mistakes you made regarding your Tesla, avoid sticky situation. You expressed regret that you had installed the front license plate using the sticky mounts. My confusion is why you are concerned? If you removed the plate there might be damage to the paint. In what scenario would you ever considering removing the plate? I live in California and the plate will always stay with the car even if you sell it. Is your state different? I have found you to be so logical in your videos. I am confused why this is even an issue? Thank you and keep up the good work. It is appreciated!
Well first off, thank you very very much! Second, our plates change if we sell the car. Which I don’t plan on selling, BUT here’s my problem.. I don’t want my plates to show up in my videos for privacy reasons (yes I know people see them in public, but typically those people don’t care who the heck I am) second I would LOVE to do professionally photography shoots with my TESLA.. again then the plate would be in there… on top of all this…. The longer you leave a residue like this 3M on the car and it’s exposed to the elements mainly heat like here in TEXAS.. the more it begins to harden and get dry rot. Then you will most definitely rip the paint off when you remove it if you aren’t extremely careful and find a dissolve solution that is safe for the paint yet effective. So therefore, I’d like to get this off ASAP.. oh AND I plan on wrapping the car myself eventually, so again that plate will need to be removed. Hope this helps;) better to just save people the trouble and get a removable damage feel plate if they plan to do any of the above. Thanks for your support! Have a great weekend! Sorry for any typos!
Thank you so much!!!! You’re giving me the spark I need to want to try again. I gave up for a while. Unfortunately the wrap I want is apparently the HARDEST wrap! 😂 Chameleon iridescent type.
Thanks for the informative video. Liked and subbed. Driving with a black screen is kind of uncomfortable. The car is still operational (not sure about the turning signals as I don't remember I heard the signal sound). It happened to me quite a bit a few software versions ago. Every Tesla owner should learn how to reboot the car.
Yeah, someone told me the turn indicators work but you can’t hear them, but I had no way to verify that from driving my own car alone. I just didn’t hear them. Yeah, it’s kind of just like driving a regular car but still feels weird. 😂
Awesome video. Definitely learned something. I didn’t know that the shutdown button inside the menu was hard reboot. I thought holding the two wheels on steering wheel was it. Thanks for taking the time Sarah. As always babes great week ahead and even better weekend. 👍
Super helpful as always. So my touchscreen was frozen (Model Y). Nothing worked, so no access to the owners manual on the car. I went to the app on my phone and to the owner’s manual and to my surprise the mobile owner’s manual is different. No index of terms for example. Still a search but no “restarting the touchscreen”. Thankfully I could search SaraJAwesome and find what I needed. Thanks again.
Oh wow! I honestly did NOT know the owners manual was on the app, or that it was different. You taught me something too! I’m so happy I could help though!!! You can always direct message me on Instagram or Twitter @sarajawesome and I’ll get back to uou faster on there than on here or email. My email though is sarajawesome@yahoo.com. You can message me questions any time night or day and I should answer then pretty quick in there. But go ahead and message me “hi” or something now so I can accept them and they don’t get held for review. I don’t have all the answers but I could have helped with this faster than googling;)
The next to last hard reboot that you did not recommend which is not in the manual fixed a persistent bug when a Tesla Service Rep walked me through it over the phone.
✅✅✅✅✅👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻☝️☝️☝️☝️Everyone read the comment above!!!! Oh nice!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing that! And EXACTLY how did they have you do it? Did you hold the brake until screen came one? Or hold scroll and wheels and brake until it came back on? Or did you release the brake and bills roll wheels as soon as the screen went black? Do you remember the exact steps? This could be very helpful for everyone! Thank you! And what bug was it?
Oh no:( That SUCKS! Keep me posted on what happened and how they fix it. I’m sorry you’re dealing with that? Do you know how that happened by chance? Also, 🙏 thank you!
Love this! It doesn’t say anything about dying in the manual 🤣! I have only needed to reboot once - I had a dead screen when I went to the car one morning. I googled it and the only thing that worked was the scroll and brake pedal solution - the scroll buttons alone didn’t work which suggests they aren’t exactly the same. I have a few new alternatives now thanks to your video. One question though - I also have an app to tell me the speed but if I didn’t and the screen went off or was broken, can you accelerate to any speed? I am now contemplating the excuse if I get pulled over for speeding! I also loved the waving comment - I really want to acknowledge my fellow T-dog drivers but haven’t ever done it ….. yet. Then again they are pretty rare here in Scotland - in my town of 60,000 people I think I’ve seen 4 in the last few months. I also love your drive is full of cars! So is mine, a car for the summer, one for the kids and her indoors has a car, however I do feel bad given i took the green choice and bought an electric car! Having 3 petrol cars in addition is making me guilty! I am just glad I don’t have a massive 4x4 and a rally car - I think I spotted an XC90 and an Evo in your drive! Well it looked like the massive wing of an Mitsubishi Evo! Anyway back to that crack in the window…………..😱
Haha! I’ll try to answer everything in this comment but forgive if I forget. Yes, I believe you can accelerate to any speed. I’m the TeSLA app you now see your speed there on your phone too but it’s incredibly tiny. The third party app the number is bigger. Yes, u should always waive! And yes, we have the 2021 Volvo XC90, 2021 Subaru WRX STI, 2021 Toyota Supra, and 2021 Mazda 2. My husband said he knows the gas cars are going to be obsolete soon and wanted to get his favorite cars while he could. I support him:) but he only likes ot take my car everywhere and have me drive because it’s so much cheaper than the others!!! Hahaha sorry for any typos!
@@SaraJAwesome so you said “honey I want an M3” he was overjoyed and the day it arrived he realised you meant a Model 3 rather than the BMW variety! Unless you got the Performance model 3??
Lol no. He actually was the one to suggest that I get a model 3. And I was like yeah right. I wish.. then I looked at the price and it was within my budget and I ordered it 5 minutes later without thinking twice. Then I sat around for 9 weeks wondering if I made the right decision. Turns out I did. And I got the SRP, which is just enough battery for me.
The soft reboot only restarts the screen, for example if the screen on your smart phone freezes up and you just turn the screen off, but not turn the whole phone off. The power cycling is like turning the whole completely off and then back on.
I bet the brake pedal does nothing. perhaps someone added it to see if it did something different. I’ll check around and see if I can find more info on that.
@@SaraJAwesome lol it’s so amazing, thank you! And I was going to tell you, I found out using really hot water and a micro fiber cloth for the white seats works so well! 😊👍🙂 I did so much research and came up w that fr a few other you tubers 😀 my seats look brand new again and w no cost or chemicals ☺️ I’m looking into getting a roof rack, scrolling through now to see if you’ve covered that topic lol I had ordered the model y in dec to trade in my DM 3, but I cancelled it bc I cannot stand to be without my sporty 3 😂 it just feels so much more stealth than the y 😬 I test drove the y w my kids and they were like it’s more room… but in the end I was like, you’ll be fine in the 3, I can’t give up the 353 mile range and the way it feels going fast on turns lol 😂 I know all my friends are about the y, but for me it felt too much like my suv, not as sporty and cool 😎 😂 plus, when I’m in the city, it’s just too easy to park the 3 bc it’s so compact and I guess I’m the only one, but it hella bothered me that I couldn’t really see much out of the y’s back window. I think bc I’m old, I’m never going to fully rely on the cameras and need that back window view. Plus, it’s been over 8 months now and I think the cargo space is totally adequate for us and the roof rack will bridge that extra gap in space I was looking for w the y… Omgosh I just realized how much I rambled on lol 😬🤦♀️😀
Awesome! I agree 💯! I’ve never driven the y, but I like the sportiness of the 3 better and the ability to whip around places too. I don’t have any desire for the Y anymore and I’ve heard a lot of people feel the same way. The lower profile on the 3 makes it more fun and comfortable to drive. I’m jealous of your range!!! Just know that a rack WILL cause drag because it’s not aerodynamic and you will lose some range. Kim Java (you tuber) covered that with a bike rack but I have not. And the kids are gonna grow up and get their own car eventually anyway. They’ll be fine. I’m so happy you love it!!!!!!!! I love the rambling because I do the same with my model 3. It’s love. Oh and that’s great you got the seats clean with no chemicals!!!! I’ll spread the word! I wish I got white:(…. Have a great weekend! Always happy to see you in the comments!
@@SaraJAwesome lol I have a love hate relationship w my white interior lol. 😂 oh yes! I watch Kim Java too, I’ll look for her rack video, thank you! I changed my rims too and that affected my range a little as well, but it still says 353-ish when fully charged lol so I just go off that not what I’m actually getting 😂🤣 I think I’m actually getting about 67% overall dependent on a lot of variables, obviously ☺️😊🙂
Did you change your rims on the screen? It’s called wheel configuration. And her video was a roadtrip video and was a bike rack. I don’t think it had bike rack in the title so maybe ask her.
Love your videos. I just watched your video covering battery loss with sentry mode. I live in Ohio where the temps have been way below freezing. I notice battery loss even driving short distances.. My car is parked in an enclosed garage at nite. Do I need to adjust the cabin temperature so it doesn't warm up or leave it at 70 (where it's set while driving)?
What’s do you mean by adjust cabin temperature so it doesn’t warm up? Do you mean like preheating, or not turning the heating on at all while driving? Things I suggest.. schedule your departure (if you charge at home) that way you can heat up the cabin but still get in with full battery. Put your hubcaps back on, turn backseat fan off, use seat warmer, keep car in chill mode, make sure regen braking is on full regen, use heater sparingly on lowest comfortable temperature. It’s the heat that makes you lose energy from the heater not the fan blowing the air. Hope this helps! Let me know what you mean and I’ll try to help more!
Dang. Um. Is the car drivable? If the car is not drivable then go into the screen under safety and power off the car for 4 min and then power back on with the brake pedal. Don’t touch anything at all and don’t open the doors while it is powered off. If your car is still drivable, I would just give it more time. That happened to me once and like the next day it finally finished and got an additional software update. But I am not very familiar with any of this. So you could also just schedule a service appt in the app right now and they can probably check it remotely and give you a call pretty quickly saying what to do.
Yes, log out of the app, then uninstall the app, then reinstall it and see if there’s an update and log back in. If that doesn’t work, get in your car and go into safety and hit power off button for the car. Sit for 4 minutes with doors closed and windows up, then hit brake pedal to power back on. If that doesn’t work, turn phone off and on and then if still nothing unpaid your phone from the vehicle and pair it again. If none of this works, then try another phone for comparison if possible and schedule tesla service appt if necessary. Let me know!
And yes! Keep waving at people! It made my whole week!!!! Turns out it was subscriber that noticed me! My first time being recognized caught on camera! I didn’t know until he commented today that it was him!!!!
Thanks great and very helpful video. Question: Can I have the Tesla app open in TWO different phones at the same time or does that cause issues? My Samsung A6 seems not to be able to run the Tesla app. Is that the phone's issue or what could that be? Have you heard of that? What I learned from other apps is that the Samsung A6 can NOT run 64-bit apps, only 32-bit apps. What do you know or advise? Thanks and keep safe on the road.....By the way in Switzerland where I am, we ALL Tesla drivers wave each others...it's like one large family....!
First off thank you, Alex!!! Second yes you can have the app open on both phones. I tested it today. And it works with Apple or android. So it sounds like it’s just because of the phone itself that it’s not compatible unfortunately. Okay yeah, I just checked with my husband who is a phone genius and he said (without reading your comment) that it’s because that phone is too old and the A6 can’t support it. He doesn’t know TeSLA only phones. So yeah, unfortunately you need a phone upgrade. And that’s awesome! Keep waving! I’m gonna keep doing here even though most people ignore me! 😂
@@SaraJAwesome Thanks Sara for your detailed reply, appreciate it! Well, I may have to upgrade my phone after all ....Yeah keep waving to the Tesla drivers. We all need some more niceness shown by each other during the or on the road these days, don't' we ....Drive safe and keep the video coming.
lol I laughed so hard when i saw the elon air freshener, crack in the window was the last thing i saw funny as well. And anytime you get an software update always! do a reboot .
😂 yeah, I’m a mess. Stupid windshield. I keep thinking I’m gonna replace it soon and then I get another chip and crack, and I’m just like screw it I’m keep it as long as possible. 😆 also, yes I will be adopting an automatic reboot method with every big update now. And little updates too if anything gets weird.
My gps was waaay off after the latest update. Like 1.6 miles off. I'm a slave to navigation. I'm so petty, I considered just walking away and just reporting the car stolen. haha. I carefully turned into a parking lot, that Tesla thought was a lake. (I wasn't sure, but it was a risk I was willing to take). I did a factory reset, removed all keys from the system, and reinstalled the phone app.
SaraJ, it would be awesome if you could do a video at night and show how you can adjust your headlight aiming from the driver's seat. My 2021 M3LR headlights make some strange movements going in and out of the aiming mode. Don't worry, just keep track of how many clicks you raise and lower them so you are able to finish where you started. I think the Tesla tech told me the top of the bright line should be 27" (28"?) above the ground when aimed at a wall 25' away. (Don't quote me on those numbers, I'm old and forgetful.)
I did the update, and now my voice recognition won't work like when I press the voice button there's no chime and so I'm super bummed out. I've tried to first rec but have yet to try the power off Method
I believe the two-button method w/brake pedal method is an internet trope. No one has produced any documentation from Tesla that this is a thing. (I welcome a documented correction.)
I heard from one person maybe it was for the model S.. but I have no idea whatsoever. After comparing reboots in my own model 3(timing, visual aspects, and sounds) it seems to be a soft reset that just resets the screen only. Again, there could be things I can’t detect with my five senses.. but that’s my conclusion for now. 😂
Thank you. I tried the log out/in on my phone and I still have the same trouble and so am wondering if it is just the month/year of my car(?). My car was manufactured in March 2015 and it is an S P85D with all options from Tesla. My phone and car are up to date on S/W as of 10/30/2022. I can only honk the horn and flash the lights with my phone. I can not unlock my car or start my car or open any of the trunks. I have moved the icons around and saved but I still have this very limited interaction with my care through the Tesla app on my phone. Any ideas?? Anyone?
Not that I know of, but you can do the reboot anyway just to see if it helps. It won’t hurt anything. I rebooted my car like 8 times in the last couple days for the video. But driving the car more and future updates will. Mine was super bad when I first got it, but now it doesn’t do it hardly as much. I also learned areas and things that trigger it and avoid them by disengaging or being ready for them. I keep my foot on the accelerator at all times and when goes braking happens just push on the accelerator and then carefully release it. Sometimes it will just push it though that spot and then continue on like normal, just be careful that this doesn’t disengage the autopilot. If it does it’s fine as long as you’re ready to take over with your hands on the wheel. It will get better over time. Try to pay attention to things that trigger it.
I have a MYLR with Beta 10.9. It phantom brakes more than I'd like. When I stop to get out of the car, I open the driver door, then do a hard shutdown on the screen. Phantom braking will happen again on the next drive so the hard reset doesn't seem to affect phantom braking. It's really annoying but hopefully FSD gets better with each update and eventually it will not happen. 🤞
My car had phantom braking issues way worse a year ago when I took delivery. And especially in the first 100 miles of driving because the cameras weren’t calibrated yet. But after a year of updates my car drives WAY better on AP than it did 12 months ago. It will constantly get better over time. And you will also learn what kinds of things set it off. If your haven’t watched my autopilot Don’ts video go watch it. And always drive with your foot on the accelerator and when ghost braking happens push on the accelerator a bit to try to make it push through the area and then release the accelerator. Just be aware that if you push too hard on the accelerator it could disengage AP. Don’t worry, it will get better. ;)
Watching the latest video from David Lee w/James Douma, both report that they have restarted their MCU (screen reboot) while driving on FSD with no issue. The FSD computer & cameras are built as a fail-safe system independent of the display.
The hard reboot by pressing the brake pedal while pressing the scroll buttons is a myth. It does the same thing as just pressing the scroll buttons only.
That seems to be the case from I can observe while doing it, and comparing the two methods. I’ve had a few people tell me it’s not a myth, but most believe it is. It’s another TESLA MYSTERY! 😂 But I believe you.
Definitely Could be. 🤷♀️ from what I can tell it’s the same as the scroll buttons a soft reboot not a hard one, and only resets the screen. But I have little evidence to back it up.
I also thought the twin scroll wheel with brake was a deeper reset. Any chance that it might have been at one time, but now that it is in the menu system there is no longer a need for it?
That’s what I’m saying, I have no idea 🤷♀️ I wish I knew. After comparing it several times of what the power cycling does though and just the tow scroll wheels alone, it seems to be exactly the same as just the scroll wheel screen reboot. So it seems like it’s just a soft screen reboot only. But I have no way to tell for sure. It’s another TESLA mystery! One day perhaps I will dove it, but unfortunately for now this is all I got.
Sara, you mentioned the Stats app at the end of this video and I've been considering purchasing it, but it's a bit pricey. I'd be interested in a video of what you like most about it.
Sure, yeah I’ve been meaning to do a video for a while on it. However, there’s re 3 amazing videos on it that Frugal Tesla Guy did. One of them was an interview with the app developer. Both FTG and the app developer are good guys from the few times that I have communicated with them on Twitter. I’ll give you the links to FTG videos all about the app. I still don’t even know 100 of the stuff in the app. The main thing I love about it is the ability to track exactly how much $ I have spent charging car. That was my main reason for getting it, but there is other great stuff in there as well. Including being able to control your car from your Apple Watch! Which I love and actually needed once. I’ll give u the links in 3 separate replies below 👇🏻 let me know if you have any questions! Oh also, when I got my car the TESLA app had way less features and now the TESLA app is starting to finally have some things that this app has.
My sun in law went to a tesla class for new owners before he picked up his model3, they taught that holding the break and the 2 scroll wheels down at the same time would result in a hard reboot. Also just the 2 scroll wheels would be a soft reboot.
First of all… what?! Where is this class?! And who instructs it? I didn’t know this was a thing! that is so cool! Who supplies the classes or instructs them? As in where is the class? Second, GOOD TO KNOW!!!! Very interesting! Hey thank you for for sharing this, looking forward to your reply!
Finally heard from the doctor, he purchased his model 3 in December 2019, the class was at the showroom in Miami about a week before he picked up the car. I would think they would have gone to zoom or TH-cam since covid if they are continuing classes or perhaps this was just a trial thing.
I like to keep the little media bar up at the smallest setting at the bottom because sometimes I like to know what song is streaming. But after this holiday update it disappears. Usually overnight. Not sure if it’s after charging or a time based thing. Usually if it’s up and I’m driving around during the day it stays up. But the next day it is hiding again. Very frustrating. You think this requires a reboot? It’s not major so not sure if it’s considered a bug but it’s annoying when before it wouldn’t do that. I also wish the pin to drive keypad would appear closer to the driver..why is it all the way over on the right part of the screen. Makes no sense. Or maybe at least center it.
I agree ☝️ on the pin! So annoying!!!! And yes, just try a reboot, but mine disappears all the time. It seems harder to get it sit at the bottom now with the new update. Now it’s like either full screen or gone. Frustrating to me as well. I don’t really think it’s bug, I think it’s the new software and goes away when the car sleeps maybe. I’m not sure. But do a reboot anyway if you want. It won’t hurt only help anything else. Try to screen reboot and the power cycling. But unfortunately I doubt it will it. Let me know!!!
Harley riders throw out a subtle hand to other Harley riders as a sign of camaraderie with similar tastes in bikes. But as a Tesla driver… I’m suppose to give an excited wave and a big smile when I see other teslas?? 😂
2019 Tesla Model 3 LR. I went to a local concert, and got "parked in"--car a few inches in front of me and car a few inches behind me, but there was enough room for me to go forward and back (turn the wheel appropriately) over and over and get out. So, turned the wheel to the left, eased forward until bumpers just touched, turned wheels to right, eased bask until bumpers just touched. Again and again. After a few rounds, the car would not respond. Zip. Nothing. Two button reboot--no help. Now it was late at night- and we were stuck. Then I did the 2 button while pressing the brake pedal, car shut off and then rebooted to on....and we were able t drive away. Reported the entire thing to Tesla, they looked it up via their logs and said that I had found an obscure bug. They issued a report, but since I was the only one who had experienced it, the bug was not high priority but would **EVENTUALLY** be looked at. That was over 2 years ago--still waiting for the fix to be announced, but now, I am careful about rapidly shifting between forward and reverse. SO-- YES there is a real difference between what happens with the 2 button on the steering wheel reset and the "hold the brake pedal down and then do the 2 button reset. Thanks.
Oh wow!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing all of this in detail!!!!!!!!! Would you mind if I share this on my channel?? And would you like to remain anonymous or share first name only or full name? Thank you again! No worries if you don’t want me to share, but this is very interesting! Also, my car has a bug where the sentry isn’t working since my last update. I talked to tesla and they said they are working on it and fix will be in the update, but that they won’t notify me which update so I’ll just know when it’s fixed.
I've done the screen reboot while on autopilot and the car continues to operate normally. You just can't see navigation and the turn signal ticks are silent.
@@SaraJAwesome yeah. A few months after I got my model 3 I had the screen reboot itself while was driving. I thought I was gonna die. The car just kept driving as normal. Since then I've rebooted it manually, sometimes just to show people how safe the car is, even without the screen.
Holy!!!!!! I would have freaked out!! Omg, wow 😮 That’s great that you should people that! But Whoo, I mean the car is super safe, but when we are new to something like that it is so scary! Did you see my windshield wiper video?! You would probably love it, I was so freaked out because I had ghost Winshield wipers and thought I was gonna die back when I was a new owner too. Plus I made the whole video into an Anchorman movie remake. I had a lot of um with it and making fun of how scary stuff like that can be in these cars😂 and also how dumb I was for worrying so much!
I was told by the service manager that it is a known firmware glitch. Engineers are working on a solution but this has been occurring for the last several months. The only fix is a bandaid of holding down both wheels to reboot the screens while driving. This is really disconcerting especially when it happens at night. It currently happens 2 or 3 times per day while I drive. Separately Sirius suddenly reappeared on my screen. However, most of station tags are now not aligned. The label appearing on the screen is not the station that is playing. I was told this is also part of the firmware glitch for the X and S. Is anyone experiencing this?
I have a Model X 2020. I experience multiple screen freezes per day. I have had my car in for service 3 times with no resolution other than it being a firmware glitch. I am told to be patient. This has been going on for months. In addition, I have lost Sirius satellite. Has anyone been experiencing this ? according to the service center, this has become common on the Model X and S.
❌❌❌❌❌ please read above comment if anyone has had any similar experience or has advice please advise. Don, I am so so sorry you’re dealing with that! I haven’t heard of this issue before. They basically said it can’t be fixed, or that it will fix itself over time? I don’t understand the solution here. I haven’t heard about Sirius radio going out either. What happened exactly? Jeeze I’m sorry, I hope this gets resolved soon:(
My Hulu service has been out for several months now. The menu comes up and I can select a movie, but then I get an error message and the video cannot be played. Tesla Service said that it was a known issue and there would be a software update to correct it, but there has been no change. Has anyone else had the Hulu problem?
Dang, that sucks! I’m sorry! I don’t use HULU anymore so I don’t know about mine. I haven’t heard of this problem with anyone else. Anybody Know anything about this? Please chime in!
One thing you can try as a last resort is to disconnect the high voltage connector under the rear bench seat, after shutting down using the UI. Here is a video that demonstrates this as part of replacing the 12v battery. th-cam.com/video/76PtZPF-Dvo/w-d-xo.html
Awwww don’t let them steal your joy! I do the same thing and get upset about it sometimes but then this happens and I’m like I don’t care, I’m gonna try to keep spreading the love! 💚💚💚
Oh good!!! Good to know that it is a different reboot and actually helped! So happy it helped!!!!
@SaraJAwesome I am so happy that you made this video. Now, I can go back to enjoying my long-term rental instead of worrying. Thank you again!
Nice video. You are correct, Tesla owes all of us one therapy session...maybe two! The hard boot finally got by sentry mode to work again. Keep up the great work.
Hahahahaha 🤣😂 Oh good! I’m glad it fixed it!!!!!
You are great…thank you
Thank you, Kenny!!!!!!!!!!!
I like that you are showing how the manual. It answers so many questions people have.
Exactly! Plus you’ll get so many answers from everyone and they could be wrong. Thank you for agreeing!
Lol 😂
Thank you Sara for making this video. Yes it is always cool to give the "Tesla wave" to another smart EV owner. Cheers!
Thank YOU for your support! And yes, I agree! Everyone should wave! Cheers!
It is also a good opportunity to wipe down the interior and clean the finger smudges off the touchscreen, which become SO obvious when it is dark.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🤩🤩🤩🤩 EVERYONE READ 👆 Whoa!!!!!! That’s crazy! And also freaking amazing! 😮 Also, thanks Barry!!!!
Thank you, T!!!!! I agree 💯 and thank you so much for every word of this comment! 💚💚💚 Have a great week!
@@SaraJAwesome Hello, Thank you for always being so gracious and replying!
Nice!!!!! That makes me so happy I could help!!!!!!
I had not thought of signing out of the app and signing back in. So simple it never crossed my mind. As stated in every comment, well done, again.
Great video as always. I learnt 6 new things as I haven't got a Tesla (Yet!) but will be getting one for my next car.
@@SaraJAwesome so far so good, but I don't usually overnight it outdoors so hard to say for sure
Ah ok, well keep me posted if anything changes;) Glad it’s working for now!
Absolutely The best tutorial for Tesla cars
🙏🙏🙏 Thank you!!!!!!
Bahahahahaha! I want a pic of that! 😂 Thank you so much, I really appreciate that and I’m glad I could help!
LOVE you and your videos Sara! 😉
Thank you, Christopher!!!!!!!!
Omg! You weren't kidding when you said I was in the video 😂😂 that's so awesome!
Yeah 😂 I was flipping out for so long I had to edit some out 🤣
Did u actually see me wave and smile on the road? I hoped u did
@@SaraJAwesome yes I did!!
😁
Thanks Sara, you saved me a trip to TESLA Service Center. Had an issue with my Model 3 not connecting to WIFI. Tried power-off didn't work, but did reset screen as instructed and voila" it worked. Wifi function was repaired.
Fantastic!!!!
Thank you so much for telling me it was helpful!!!! This makes all my effort 100% worth it!! Have a great week!
Another awesome PSA video. And much respect for willing to reboot while driving on the highway 🙂
Thank you! Two other people said they did on autopilot no problem! So wow! Guess U can!
@@SaraJAwesome Yeaaah so um Ima not do that :-)
Samesies 😂
This was a very informative video. I saved it to my list of Tesla related content. I have only used the restarting the touchscreen option. Thanks for explaining all of the other types of reboots. Keep up the good work.
Oh good!!!!!! Thank you, Jeffrey!!!! Have a great week!
Amazing video as usual. Thank you for sharing. Your red and white hands while doing demo of first method in road haha … learnt a lot from these video but yes soft reboot I do when needed
Thank you!!!!!!!
Appreciate the videos as always! I hit the bell this time! Thanks Sara!
Thank you!!!!!!!! 🛎
Thank you miss Sara! This helped me update it and it only took the first option for me thank you it was very informative!
Glad it helped!
Awesome! Soft reset worked! Thanks!
With me too once one Tesla guy waved hands and smiled and gave thumbs up by opening his windows while driving. A lot of them don’t look but some do look
Nice!!!!! That makes me so happy!!!!!
“First of all…stop judging my crack!…”
Girl you crack me up at least once in all your videos.
Keep up the great work. 🤪
😂 You’re the first person to get that! Or at least the first to say anything! I thought it was funny myself. Glad you enjoyed it:) I was going to put funnier things in there but it was already a monster video. Have a great week!
Very helpful. I also have a note book, sort of a ships log with charging times and miles driven journal. btw, I used to be a red head too.
Nice!!!! Hey, I used to do that too! But then I got the STATS app! I thought about making and excel sheet including climate exterior temp speed etc… I still take TONS of notes though and record stuff on paper all the time. It’s become my hobby. :) ahhhh my fellow ginger! There are so few!
Very helpful! Thanks, SJA!
Oh good!!! 😁 You’re welcome!
Teslas are amazing. You don't know how hard it is to update my 1998 Honda Civic!
Bahahahahahaha Oh, but I do! 😂 ever tried updating a 1986 Nissan ? Lmbo!
Awesome video as always Sara great content 😎🇮🇪
Thanks, Mary!!!!!!! Happy Wednesday!!!💚
Great job on the video! Good information.
Thank you, Chris!!!!!!
@@SaraJAwesome from a tesla road service technician when he had to replace the 12volt battery and clear some fault codes because of 12volt battery 🔋
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Wow! Well thank you for sharing with everyone!!!!!!!!!!!! Perfect directions! You’re awesome!
Great content! I learned something new! Subbed to you friend! 🥂
Awesome!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU for the support!!! Happy to have taught you something new!!! It’s what I do!
Another great video! And thank you!!!!’
Thank YOU, Torin!!!!!!
Good job Sara, always have great information on Tesla. I wonder when about the heated steering wheel when the 2021 model 3.
Thanks 🙏 I wish I had the heated steering wheel 😭😭😭😭😭
Thank you, this really helped.

Me too! 😆 That would be so awesome to meet up or something !!!! Yeah, you better wave!!!! 😂
Just enjoy hearing you talk 😍
Well thank you!
Very well detailed video, thank you!
Love the ornament in your car. 😉
Thank you 😊
Thanks for the informative video.
Also thank you for your support!!!!
Awesome video. Definitely learned something. I didn’t know that the shutdown button inside the menu was hard reboot. I thought holding the two wheels on steering wheel was it. Thanks for taking the time Sarah. As always babes great week ahead and even better weekend. 👍
Nice! I always wonder if I’m wasting my time or if people are actually learning! This comment made it worth it! Thank you, same to you!
Excellent! Thank you you are awesome!
No, YOU are David! ;)
Very nice video!
Thank you!!!!!
Great video!
My car is stuck mid update at 50% and none of the reboot methods are not working. Will have to schedule an appointment with Tesla.
Oh no:( That SUCKS! Keep me posted on what happened and how they fix it. I’m sorry you’re dealing with that? Do you know how that happened by chance? Also, 🙏 thank you!
Congrats on another great video! Who Dey!!!
Thanks, Jason!!! Check out the video description for a link to the list!
Ok good video. But, what does the soft reboot accomplish or fix?
The soft reboot only restarts the screen, for example if the screen on your smart phone freezes up and you just turn the screen off, but not turn the whole phone off. The power cycling is like turning the whole completely off and then back on.
Your choice of air freshener had me rolling 😂😂
Love the air freshener 😂🔥👍
Thank you! 😂
Lol, I’ve waved at another M3 on the freeway when he was looking, he smiled and nodded lol
Nice!!!!!!! That’s what I’m talking about! 💚
Great video, good technical info
Thanks, Dave!!!!! What do you think about the brake pedal and scroll wheel method? I think it’s just a soft screen reboot.. but 🤷♀️
I bet the brake pedal does nothing. perhaps someone added it to see if it did something different. I’ll check around and see if I can find more info on that.
That’s what I think too. But some great minds told me that so I don’t wanna step on any toes
Still loving your videos! 🙂👍😊
Hey, Amber!!!! Thank you!!!!!! How’s it going with your baby TESLA?! How do you like the update?
Let me know what you mean and I’ll try to help more!
would you recommend a reboot if a software update is stuck? Mine is stuck at 50% for about 6 hours now and I’m not sure what to do
Dang.
Thx 4 the Video 👍🏼
That little smiling Elon hangin at ur mirror is a Blast . Lol ,i like that 😁
Thanks! It’s my Elon Musk air freshener! 😂
Hi Sara, ... The Tesla App just stopped working today for me, I drive the model Y, any suggestions?
Yes, log out of the app, then uninstall the app, then reinstall it and see if there’s an update and log back in. If that doesn’t work, get in your car and go into safety and hit power off button for the car. Sit for 4 minutes with doors closed and windows up, then hit brake pedal to power back on. If that doesn’t work, turn phone off and on and then if still nothing unpaid your phone from the vehicle and pair it again. If none of this works, then try another phone for comparison if possible and schedule tesla service appt if necessary. Let me know!
yer up early today! ready to learn how to ctrl alt delete my car! I still wave at all teslas too!
Well, here ya go! I hope you learn at least one new thing!!!!! Yeah, trying to change my lazy habits.. headed to yoga 🧘♀️ 😂

Sorry, yep. And yes, I will keep waving:) we definitely needed as much kindness on the road as humanly possible, and everywhere else too!

Thank you, Shaun!!!!!!
lol I laughed so hard when i saw the elon air freshener, crack in the window was the last thing i saw funny as well.
I have been on AP and FSD and done the screen reboot few times. No issues with AP or FSD as they are independent of the screen infotainment system.
Nice!!!!! I did not know that! I assumed the autopilot would be integrated with the screen heavily dependent on it.
Holy!!!!!! Yeah, you’re the third person to tell me this! So was everything fixed after that?!
@@SaraJAwesome Seems to be fixed, fingers crossed.
🤞👍🏻
Nice video.
Thanks, Russ!!!!
Oh wow, I’ve never messed with that!
I did the update, and now my voice recognition won't work like when I press the voice button there's no chime and so I'm super bummed out. I've tried to first rec but have yet to try the power off
Method
Any ideas?? Anyone?
Has rebooting helped with phantom braking . My car phantom brakes on a regular basis.

✅✅✅✅Nice! Yeah I had 3 other people tell me they rebooted on Autosteer with no issues at all as well;) good to know!
I think #5 is Tesla lore.

@@SaraJAwesome Will try to find out info tomorrow.
Finally heard from the doctor, he purchased his model 3 in December 2019, the class was at the showroom in Miami about a week before he picked up the car. I would think they would have gone to zoom or TH-cam since covid if they are continuing classes or perhaps this was just a trial thing.
Interesting! Very cool! Thank you so much!
We miss ya....peace
@@SaraJAwesome thanks Sara as always!
Perhaps Tesla could develop the ability to enter a PIN with a voice command. Just wishful thinking....
@@SaraJAwesome resetting the screen didn’t work. Every day the media bar disappears. Hate that. I didn’t do a hard reboot though.
I think it’s just the way of the new software:( sigh… I feel the same way. I like seeing my songs there all the time.

Thanks.
Seems the section about my trying the two button reset first got deleted. Just so you know, it didn't work.
No, I actually can see it, but there is a line through all the txt, but I can read it. Did you reply from a desktop computer?
Also sorry for the late reply. I’m backed up on comments pretty bad right now.
Note that when resetting while driving you will not hear anything through the speakers, including the turn signal clicks.
But is the turn signal working? I had this in my video but took it out because I wasn’t sure.
I've done the screen reboot while on autopilot and the car continues to operate normally. You just can't see navigation and the turn signal ticks are silent.
Nice!!!!!!!! That’s awesome!!!
@@SaraJAwesome yeah. A few months after I got my model 3 I had the screen reboot itself while was driving. I thought I was gonna die. The car just kept driving as normal. Since then I've rebooted it manually, sometimes just to show people how safe the car is, even without the screen.
