Is the Gap Theory Scriptural?

  • The gap theory gained popularity through the Scofield reference Bible. The use of this reference Bible in Baptist churches influenced many preachers and evangelists to embrace this theory. The theory became popular as a means to answering the claims of Darwinian evolution, since the Christians of that day did not have clear answers to claims of geologists and proponents of evolution based on Darwin's book. The extreme ages given to different rock strata by Charles Lyell, which had no true basis in science, caused many Christians to question the obvious interpretation of Genesis chapter one; that creation was in six days. The work of Henry Morris and other Christian scientists and geologists have led to a clear understanding that Darwinian evolution is the most foolish theory ever taught by the enemies of the Bible. Today many creation ministries provide clear and easily understood arguments against the gap theory. ‘Answers in Genesis’, located in Kentucky and headed up by Ken Ham, has provided some of the best evidence for a literal 6 day creation as given in the first chapter of the Bible. Sadly, many people today still cling to the theory that gives credence to the extreme ages given by men like Charles Lyell and other believers in The Big Bang and Darwinian evolution.
This one verse forever changed my belief about the "Gap Theory".
    Exodus 20:11
“For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”
In this video I present what I believe the Bible teaches about the creation of Lucifer and when he was created. I also look at how the overwhelming evidence of scripture points to a literal 6-day creation of ALL things.
    Colossians 1:16
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:”
    John 1:3
“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”
There has only been one earth up to this time.
    Revelation 21:1
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.”

Anyone that reads Genesis for the first time will not come away believing there was a previous earth. You have to be taught that. Same goes with Genesis chapter 6 regarding the origin of “giants”.

Brother Kim believes differently than I do on this subject. The Gap Theory gained popularity when the Schofield reference Bible became popular among Baptists. The reason the gap theory was even propagated was because many Christians did not have a clear answer to the claims of Darwinian evolution. Today many creation ministries are able to answer questions that years ago eluded Christian pastors and Bible teachers. I believe in a literal six day creation where God created all things!

I listen to all sorts of Bible "teachers", online preachers, and even seminars. I even listen to an sda preacher just to challenge myself at discerning lies. But there are many, many preachers i listen to that i learn from, yet i don't agree with them on everything. We must chew the meat and spit out the bones. But of course we take everything in the lense of the Word of God. I like the way Pastor Lawson put it, "if You're not willing to use another man's brains, it is a good sign that you haven't got any for yourself." I love listening to Chuck Missler, RIP. He has very deep, very knowledgeable Bible studies. Yet i don't agree with everything he says. But he does come from an engineer view point, and tries to make everything like up with scientific logic. God is supernatural, and man cannot comprehend Him. Then there's Cliffe Knechtle, i really disagree with him on a lot of things, like him compromising genesis by going along with the gap theory and claiming the Old Testament is mostly Hebrew poetry. Plus he doesn't use the King James, and it really shows. But he goes to college campuses, and really does a number on the college students in proving God philosophically. Then there's Kent Hovind. You know him, hahaha. Then of course Pastor Lawson. Brother Robert Breaker is another one. And recently i discovered Peter Ruckman, RIP, and i have been absolutely hooked on him. Gail Riplinger seminars. I just love listening to teachings and preachings on the Bible. There are a few street preachers i enjoy listening to as well, and I'm sure a few other names i forgot to mention. You as well. God bless, brother.

So you didn't address the main argument of the gap theory. Genesis 2:1 KJV: Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. which would suggest that multiple heavens were created after the original creation of Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. I’ve been reading the Bible for 35 years and listening to sermons from many different people over that time. I’ve also read many books and commentaries. With all of that, my mind was changed with just that one verse!
I really don’t see how a Bible believer can argue against the plain scripture. I think the gap theory was all promoted many years ago by Christians who could not come up with a clear answer to the claims of evolution. By allowing millions of years in a gap they could, in their mind, explain away the claims of evolution. Today many creation Ministries destroy evolution along with the gap theory using the scripture and geological evidence. The scripture alone is good enough for me but geology sure does prove what the Bible says!
