About the carligths - it´s as simple as the fact that the sun stays very low and when you are meeting a car on the road with the sun ahead it´s easier to recognice the car. This is a fact about 4 months a year because we are driving so far north.

18:02 Driving with headlights on during the day has been shown to reduce the number of accidents, as you can see the other vehicles much more clearly. Especially if it is sunny with lots of shadows from trees and terrain along the roads.

Having the front lights on during the day has proven to limit accidents so it's a no-brainer.
Cars sold for the Swedish market will have them automatically turn on with the ignition.

    • @larszenthio1012
      @larszenthio1012 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

They don't have that at all. They can turn off the lights completely on some car models. They've also come up with the idiotic idea that they don't need the taillights on. This is forgotten by many drivers and they can drive all night with them off. I've had the privilege of running into several drivers, but I've spotted them at the last second.

@@larszenthio1012 Don't have what at all?
If the daylight running lights don't automatically switch on with the ignition that generally indicates that the car was privately imported and not manufactured for the Swedish market.
There's a reason an ECE regulation came about which made daylight running lights mandatory on all cars built from 2011+ so it has been acknowledged as a safety feature.
The rest of the EU just realized it a couple of decades later.
      road-safety.transport.ec.europa.eu/eu-road-safety-policy/priorities/safe-vehicles/daytime-running-light_en
I've been able to turn off the lights on all cars I've ever driven.
Yes the none active tail lights are annoying and the automatics for them usually works poorly.
On some cars the automatic function is the only option.
On mine I can chose between automatic or always on (with the ignition).
I always have mine switched on.
I've never encountered a car running without the tail lights at night.
The automatic activation handles that quite well but in other low visibility conditions like fog and snow when it's still bright outside it works poorly.
You can be fined a couple of thousand kronor if they are not active in low visibility conditions.

We don't set the Glögg on fire, and it wouldn't work anyways since it's not strong enough.
Another way of dying from Wasps/Bees is suffocation due to swollowing one, which is why you should *never* drink directly from a can in the summer.

It used to be a goat that brought the gifts to kids in Sweden before the concept of a Santa Claus was invented.

  • @WolfHeathen

The "yule goat" represents the two rams (named Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjostr) that pull Thor's chariot across the sky. The word "yule" is what we call christmas and it's another name for the norse god Odin who was the original inspiration for the modern santa.
Odin used to ride his eight-legged horse named "Sleipnir" across the land in late December. That's why the modern santa has eight reindeer pulling his sleigh. Odin had two ravens (Hugin and Munin) as helpers who informed him about who had been naughty and who had been nice. He would then bless people who had been nice. This is why the modern santa has helpers (elves) and gives out presents to those who have been nice.

I'm Swedish, but haven't tried surströmming as it's not common in my area.
But I have tried duriam when I was, which is also said to smell bad, but I don't think so.
It tastes really good, it's just a shame that you shouldn't drink alcohol close to when you eat.

He jokes about the Russian submarine-thing as it was a false-alarm THAT time.
There was a very famous incident in 1981 involving a Whiskey-class Soviet submarine getting stranded outside of the Swedish Marine base Karlskrona. In English, this incident became known as "Whiskey On the Rocks" and became a major political crisis for the Soviet Union.
So the sub got stranded on a small island off the coast and was eventually discovered. The Swedish Armed forces reacted very strongly to this happening and surrounded the sub for days. The situation became much worse when a radiation signature matching nuclear weapons was detected by a measuring device outside the sub.
The Soviets sent a fleet toward the Swedish border with the intent of rescuing the sub, but was simply told "NO" by the Swedish military.
The situation was so tense that the general consensus was that if the Soviets tried anything, there would be war.
Luckily, the Soviet fleet got the order to stand down, and eventually the sub was towed off the rocky island and allowed to return home.
The most ridiculous thing about the whole affair was that the submarine captain simply stated that they became stranded because of a "navigational problem" and that they thought they were near Poland - the complete opposite direction, and quite far away too. Right....

fun video, But lots of small mistakes. Some because the video is old. Others becasue of he being english. Like Glögg and not Gl ó egg. Its not sour herring its fermented herring, Smell even worse then Durian, Yes is that bad. But the taste is most salty fish. (personal im not a fan of Surströmming.) One of the pictures of Swedish meatballs looked like falafel. Think the dutch was an generic picture from IKEA in Belguim. and more. Still a fun video of a foreigners take on Sweden. NO Goat do not pull Santas sledge. But goat was important long before Santa clause was invented.

Other small mistakes. Moose test is not mandotary by law. it was a test invented by car magazine Teknikens värld in the late 70s. but became a standard test on SAAB and Volvo. Raindeer are all owned by people and by law only the Sami people can own them. (Weird I know) Gift is not pronounced Yeft. (maybe in some local dialects) The Swedish number is no longer active. Using pictures of Lobster when talking about crayfish. Its not illigal to vote for Kalle Anka (Donald duck in english) But the votes will not count. Never heared about the text message when someone get a hearthattac. We have an app with heartstartes close to you. The Fish farting was the story they ran in the newspapers. True story you will have to wait 30 more year until its unclasified. The Dance law did exist but most people had no idea about it. It was only implemented if some one was disturbing the peace. Or it was an illegal bar. I prob missed lots more misstake he made for commic effect....

Yes santa never existed in sweden, it was only jultomten who came and gave us our presents instead, before that it was this goat like creature seen as the devil in disguise who came during christmas to smack children and to give us our christmas presents.
Our christmas today may look similar to santa claus but that is only because of capatalism and the american influence we had, but we have our own magical creature really and don't need Santa clause.

nah, moose are just big and dumb animals that walk straight onto the road from the forest. and because of their huge size and tall height are they perfect for smashing onto the front part of the roof right at the top of the windshield and caving it in, trapping the occupants of the car, it is also not too uncommon for at least one of the mooses legs to go through the windshield and kick the front seat occupants to death.
the swedish work day is generally 9 hours at work, 8 hours of actual work and one hour break that isn't paid. some companies have a policy where they ad a small extra break and that one is paid for. where I work is that the case so we have a 20 minute breakfast break, 30 minute lunch and 20 minute afternoon break. as you can see is this more than one hour so the last 10 minutes here is a paid break also known as a "fikarast" or a coffee break. generally just a coffee and a little bit of chatting between collegues.
setting fire to Glögg? what madman does that? it is a hot christmas drink and either has a base of juice or a base of red wine. it is then combined with different spices to get the good ole fashioned Glögg we all know and love. I personally prefer the none alcoholic version with a juice base, partially cause I don't enjoy being drunk and partially cause I really don't like wine.
yes, that is the Surströmming. fermentet baltic herring. the smell isn't nice for first timers. it kinda smells like sour garbage to begin with. the thing with surströmming is that it only has a slight fermented and mostly salty taste and if eaten the right way is it more like a spice than the main dish and really adds to the flavor. and as soon as you have tried it the right way and if you like it then will the smell be associated with something tasty and thus will you also tolerate or actually start enjoying the smell. you shouldn't open a tin of Surströmming indoors tho. the tin is under pressure so it sprays some juice when opened and should therefore be opened outdoors and on the oposite side of the tin so the spray is going away from you. you then empty the brine and wash the brine off the Surströmming with normal tap water and then bring it to the table. some even prefer to open the can in a bucket of water to eliminate spray.
no, goats doesn't pull santas sleigh, reindeer does. but it is an old tradition before the reindeer version came to life. so back in the day did santa not have a sleigh, he rode a goat and thus the straw goat wich is an important part of swedish christmas. and fun fact, we celebrate christmas on christmas eve and not christmas day.
voating for the donnald duck party is not illegal, it is just as legal to vote for the donnald duck party as it is to vote for the Satanistic Initiative party
yep, it was indeed fish farts, or to be exact, herring farts. they make a clicking noise wich is actually very similar sounding as when sailors are walking in a submarine.
so, the headlights are required to be on even in broad daylight because it actually increases visibility quite a lot. mabye not that much when it is broad daylight, but as soon as it becomes ever so slightly overcast will it make a big difference. and that is why I think the trend of having the rear lights off when daytime running lights are on is complete insanity and the law needs to be changed to require all people to have the rear lights on as well. so the reason is just for safety. it also makes it so that people don't forget to turn their headlights on during rain wich would be incredibly dangerous to have people driving around in the rain with no lights showing where the hell you are
the reason to ban unlicensed dance parties was actually there to limit alcohol consumption wich is good for public health. but the law was taken away because it didn't really have the desired effect.
