Barbara Schlick - Mozart: Concert aria K.580 Schon lacht der holde Frühling, Live 1979

THE SONGBIRD: After her debut in 1966, German soprano Barbara Schlick became a ubiquitous presence for decades in performances of baroque and classical concert repertoire -- rarely if any opera appearances -- and tons of baroque music recordings. I entered her name into Amazon and 109 entries came up in the CD/Vinyl category alone (not including digital downloads). Discogs lists 140 separate recordings of Scarlatti, Telemann, Handel, and Bach ... so much Bach. I mention all this by way of illustrating she is one of those sopranos who was highly prolific in recordings and soloist appearance in world-class venues with top conductors, but whose name is not well known outside the baroque concert scene. So many recordings, and yet so few portrait pictures available on the internet!
Schlick did sing her fair share of Mozart masses and she has one Mozart lieder recital disc. This is her performance of Mozart's concert arias K.580 "Schon lacht der holde Frühling" comes from a concert in 1979 with the Orchester der Deutschen Kinderartze (youth orchestra) conducted by Eduard Melkus.
