Is it a matter of a pinion when it comes to faster lap times.

Gears are fun. :) Lower number of teeth on the pinion also translates to higher torque for better acceleration and braking, but a lower top speed. Great for short, technical tracks. On longer tracks with less twisties, more teeth means a higher top speed at the expense of acceleration and braking. :)
The opposite is true for the spur or crown gear. :)

The Legends are great cars. Our race group just ran a series for these at 13 volts on a 25m long 4 lane Carrera track. We were getting down to 6 second lap times. Running Slotting Plus guide & MJK tyres. All tyres trued down to around 20mm dia.

I'm running an 11 tooth pinion, with a 19K Pioneer Rebel motor in my Pioneer 68 Stealth Charger, run's great on a small track

Another great video Travis, I love these cars. Take the magnet 🧲 out for some great racing 👍

A great idea for a video Travis and very well done. It could have been interesting to see the average time for each pinion as well.

Great video. I love the technical ones 😉. I have been asked about gear ratios many times but as you say, it does depend on driving style and the type of track layout.

You are spot on it all comes down to the driver, what feels right, suits there style ..fast times are great but consistency is key.
It's always nice getting a comment from the technical king 😉

Thanks, Travis :) So there we have it. Your circuit is a good balance of bends and straights but, and on balance and in my o pinion, the long straights and the most generally medium radius curves, make yours a 'fast' circuit as opposed to a 'twisty' one. In truth, all this test says more about the circuit you are racing on than the individual car. Correspondingly, and if I were in your situation, I'd go out and buy a bunch of 13 toothers for the ones you want to race with?

My pinion is that they are too good looking to race but if you can get a cheap secondhand one then it is great.
As I haven't used mine this was a great performance video!👍

    Quite an interesting video thanks.
One thing that concerns me, the more teeth on a pinion, the bigger the diameter of the pinion for it to stay with the same tooth profile.
With these cars, are you able to adjust the motor for an optimum gear mesh, or do you have to mess around with the crown gear for that?

    • @thatslotcarguy
      @thatslotcarguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Not a lot of play with meshing, the major difference I found with the 3 is the 13T is louder but it didn't appear to affect the performance

@@thatslotcarguy thank you for replying. A good gear mesh is quite important, all goes towards the total things to do to get the time down. I guess with this type of car, it may not be as critical as some I've raced.
To give you an idea of what I've raced, even at national level, although my class of cars weren't quite this quick, maybe one second a lap slower for my quickest.
I hope you enjoy, and it's worth watching till the end.
