This is one of those songs that as a fan you want it to have the recognition yet at the same time you don't so that it keeps its rare fresh dark endless sophistication to yourself & a select few. One of my favorite DM tracks ever. I always thought it is disappointing that the end is faded out instead of going out with a bang, just like the live version. A big mistake by Flood and the band IMHO. I often raise the volume up until the end, up to the very last note, to counter this.

Hi Vaughn, just disce discovered your channell. Been a DM fan from New Life, collected 7", 12" cd singles, coloured vynil, Razormad cds, German, USA imports back when it was really hard to do. Seen them live 25 times and introduced my Son to them when he was 8 years old. Hes now 25. I have to admit i have fallen out of love with them with the more recent stuff. They really do miss Alan. Enjoy the Silence and Precious are the two most perfect records ever made. Keep up the great work. Thanks.

That strange sound Fletch does which we weren't sure how it featured in the track... I've just watched the Halo Devotional version, and Fletch plays it in the final chorus just to add a bit of depth, I guess!

I do love how you dissect their music, taking us non-musicians into the depths of their artwork and help is understand why its ok to love what they do even if so many others don’t appreciate or hear it!!

I close my eyes and listen to all the layers and sounds DM have produced and it really is like nothing else out there. Gives me goosebumps every time! To me, the fletch part is actually quite stressful. I can play piano and if I had to play that one note and nothing else at a precise time or else the whole song would fall apart and everyone would know it was me, that would be more stressful to me in many ways than a complicated piece where if I messed up I could write it off as "playing with feeling"
That is very true and I’ve mentioned this before in my videos . When something is easy to play, it actually becomes difficult as there is no room for error or manoeuvre!! VG 😎👍🎹

This is my ‘dark horse’ fave by DM. I’ve often paired it with St. Jarna and/or Agent Orange either on mix tapes for friends or at shows. Brilliant piece and the best composed track on Violator.

My favourite DM track along with 🪰 on the windscreen. I’ve been waiting for a TH-cam channel to give this song the detailed appreciation and attention it deserves for years. Thank you Vaughn. The best description I heard about halo was from the NME review which for once had it right when they said the song was “grimly oppressive and gloriously uplifting” [at the same time]. I’m minded to agree. Apparently the drum is partly sampled from LZep’s “when the levee breaks” (via another record) and contains a section from an Elgar piece as well. Don’t know how accurate that is? It’s got Flood’s fingerprints all over it and is all the better for it. This was the start of Floods classic run of albums which included Zooropa which had some of u2 finest work alongside Brian ENO. Halo also has some cracking remixes which you can hunt down easily on TH-cam and some of the fan made videos with the vids are really excellent. Brilliant song. Brilliant album. SoFAD was the last truly great DM album although there were some gems on their other works I don’t think the production was as varied or as consistently excellent after AW left. Sorry. Just my (admittedly rather cliched) opinion! Thanks for all you do Vaughn. !

Vaughn, I totally aggree with you, Halo is definitely among the top 5 DM tracks. No wonder Dave also likes it. Actually besides WIME, this is my favourite on Violator. This is a real masterpiece both its sound and lyrics. It starts simply from almost nothing, and by the end of the track it makes you fly with its strings sound. Similar to IYR.

Criminal it was not released as a single - promo only CD single with the album version. I was hoping there would be some unreleased 1990 mixes that might see the light of day some day.

This aong does seduce me with its bassline. And then you add the synth, and forget it. I was only in high school at the time, so it's not like I was into some evil, but somehow I thought I understood these emotions. The song seems to have all the layers to portray the drama behind the lyrics.

Brilliant video as always. For Martin's synth part on "Halo", I found that Patch #58 on the original Roland Juno-60 synthesizer comes very close.

Criminal it was not released as a single - promo only CD single with the album version. I was hoping there would be some unreleased 1990 mixes that might see the light of day some day.

This aong does seduce me with its bassline. And then you add the synth, and forget it. I was only in high school at the time, so it's not like I was into some evil, but somehow I thought I understood these emotions. The song seems to have all the layers to portray the drama behind the lyrics.
