Oh my god, these people are now denying their identity. The pretend they are not tutsi. There is one guy in Seattle, USA who said he did a DNA study and found that they are not tutsi. This is pure evil to see a man denying his identity, his roots, his culture. This is a complex of inferiority, they absolutely want to be called Congolese. You can have a citizenship but you can not have Congolese blood. And this is not shameful to be a tutsi, why these people deny their identity.
I think it will be beneficial to leave behind unnecessary things that do not help you live in peace with other people in the area you live in DRC. The host, you rightly ask why not just be banyamulenge congolese. You rightly say the word Congo was used to define a geographical area which encompassed many types of people, including Banyamulenge. These people had their own way of defining themselves, congolese became an additional word that began to be used to define belongingness to that country. The words Bantus, Nilotiques etc... are manufactured identities. There is no such as a thing as a nilotique identity or bantu identity or whatever. Ethiopia has more than 80 ethnic groups, Oromos ,Amharas ,Tigrayans, Sidama ,Gurage,Welayta , Hadiya , Afar, Gamo etc...Somalia has more than 500 clans with all sorts of names, DjIbouti, Sudan....all have countless types of people, who all have their own way of defining themselves None of these people know anything about the word nilotique as something. It is a manufactured identity. These people have their own self definitions. Much of the tensions and problems they have had, exactly have to do with people wanting to play the "ethnic card", for politcal gain. Tigrayan Vs Amhara, Amhara Vs Oromo etc.. etc... They are all beautiful humans, much like there are beautiful humans all over Africa, Europe, Americas etc.. The word Tutsi does not mean Nilotique. Yes it is true that it was moslty used in Rwanda and Burundi, but the usage of that word had nothing to do with that. No one can say for sure how it all began, but one theory is that at the beginning, the word tutsi was a functional title, coming from the word "gutura" , or to bear gifts. I was born in Rwanda, and grew up on the same street as one of King Musinga son's family. It is easy to assume that in Rwanda, the usage of ethnic labels hutu, tutsi, twa was always the same, everywhere, at different periods of history. But that is not Correct. Even though there were all types of people in the area where I grew up, my house was about 5 houses away from King Musinga son's family, ethnic labels never came up in conversation. You will be surprised to hear that the first time I heard about the word Tutsi, I was 13 years, in Congo, before the war of 1990. I heard someone refer to Tutsi and I asked what that meant. Up to that moment, I had never heard of any reference to any those labels to identify people. And I am happy, I didn't. I realize that my experience of it was not the experience of every rwandan in every part of Rwanda, Uganda or wherever. None of this matters beyond trying to show the power of stories and that things are not always what they appear. Long time ago, there were many functions, ceremonial priests, warriors, herders, farmers, ... different people, could have different functions. In a gift giving economy, there were people who were tasked with carrying gifts, "gutura" to ensure the fair distribution of milk and harvest. 'umututsi" was the person in the family who was tasked carrying gifts. In Rwanda, there were many clans (ubwoko), these are what were used to identify. Abagesera, Ababanda, ,...which had all types of people. The gift bearer was umututsi wu zigaba, umututsi mu gesera, umututsi wu mu banda etc...the "etchnic" labels, hutu, tutsi, twa were not used in the same way as was later introduced around 1920s. The first person to ever be imprisoned in the infamous prison 1930 in Kigali was a local chief who had refused to carry out the 'identity cards' agenda in his area, simply because he said the labels of tutsi, hutu, twa did not correspond to how rwandans defined themselves. None of all this really matters. It is high time to leave all these things behind. The only self definition that matters is a self definition that leads you to see value in yourself and value in others.

Oh my god, these people are now denying their identity. The pretend they are not tutsi. There is one guy in Seattle, USA who said he did a DNA study and found that they are not tutsi. This is pure evil to see a man denying his identity, his roots, his culture. This is a complex of inferiority, they absolutely want to be called Congolese. You can have a citizenship but you can not have Congolese blood. And this is not shameful to be a tutsi, why these people deny their identity.

I think it will be beneficial to leave behind unnecessary things that do not help you live in peace with other people in the area you live in DRC.

You rightly say the word Congo was used to define a geographical area which encompassed many types of people, including Banyamulenge.
These people had their own way of defining themselves, congolese became an additional word that began to be used to define belongingness to that country.
The words Bantus, Nilotiques etc... are manufactured identities. There is no such as a thing as a nilotique identity or bantu identity or whatever.
Ethiopia has more than 80 ethnic groups, Oromos ,Amharas ,Tigrayans, Sidama ,Gurage,Welayta , Hadiya , Afar, Gamo etc...Somalia has more than 500 clans with all sorts of names,
DjIbouti, Sudan....all have countless types of people, who all have their own way of defining themselves
None of these people know anything about the word nilotique as something. It is a manufactured identity. These people have their own self definitions. Much of the tensions and problems they have had, exactly have to do with people wanting to play the "ethnic card", for politcal gain. Tigrayan Vs Amhara, Amhara Vs Oromo etc.. etc...
They are all beautiful humans, much like there are beautiful humans all over Africa, Europe, Americas etc..
The word Tutsi does not mean Nilotique. Yes it is true that it was moslty used in Rwanda and Burundi, but the usage of that word had nothing to do with that.
No one can say for sure how it all began, but one theory is that at the beginning, the word tutsi was a functional title, coming from the word "gutura" , or to bear gifts.
I was born in Rwanda, and grew up on the same street as one of King Musinga son's family.
It is easy to assume that in Rwanda, the usage of ethnic labels hutu, tutsi, twa was always the same, everywhere, at different periods of history.
But that is not Correct.
Even though there were all types of people in the area where I grew up, my house was about 5 houses away from King Musinga son's family,
ethnic labels never came up in conversation. You will be surprised to hear that the first time I heard about the word Tutsi, I was 13 years, in Congo, before the war of 1990.
I heard someone refer to Tutsi and I asked what that meant. Up to that moment, I had never heard of any reference to any those labels to identify people. And I am happy, I didn't.
I realize that my experience of it was not the experience of every rwandan in every part of Rwanda, Uganda or wherever.
None of this matters beyond trying to show the power of stories and that things are not always what they appear.
Long time ago, there were many functions, ceremonial priests, warriors, herders, farmers, ... different people, could have different functions.
In a gift giving economy, there were people who were tasked with carrying gifts, "gutura" to ensure the fair distribution of milk and harvest. 'umututsi" was the person in the family who was tasked carrying gifts.
In Rwanda, there were many clans (ubwoko), these are what were used to identify. Abagesera, Ababanda, ,...which had all types of people. The gift bearer was umututsi wu zigaba, umututsi mu gesera, umututsi wu mu banda etc...the "etchnic" labels, hutu, tutsi, twa were not used in the same way as was later introduced around 1920s.
The first person to ever be imprisoned in the infamous prison 1930 in Kigali was a local chief who had refused to carry out the 'identity cards' agenda in his area, simply because he said the labels of tutsi, hutu, twa did not correspond to how rwandans defined themselves.
None of all this really matters. It is high time to leave all these things behind.
The only self definition that matters is a self definition that leads you to see value in yourself and value in others.
