      Anyone who's ever had a chance to play around with Rare Earth Magnets wouldn't be questioning how well the new JoyCons will be staying in place. That rubberization inside the console slots is not just an esthetic choice, it's to absorb the impact of how forcefully the magnets pull each other to lock those things in place. Plus, with Rare Earth Magnetization locking, the pull will never wear out over time like a physical locking mechanism would.

    The connector will be fine. It's recessed, aligns with magnets, and looks like it might even have a little bit of a hinge under the surface to account for misalignment. But I don't think we're gonna be getting multiple colours with this one. Case in point being that the system itself has the JoyCon colours on the inside of the trench. The accent colour seems to be more for quick recognition of which is the left and right JoyCon at a glance. If they sold (for example) purple and yellow JoyCons, then you'd be matching a purple controller with a red connector, and it'd start getting visually muddled. So I think they might be easing back the multi coloured aspect of the system this time.
    If I had to guess, they might've seen diminishing returns on the various JoyCon recolours' sales figures over time. So this time around they're just sticking to the one colour config. Maybe? I dunno. If you're reading this far, you're just as crazy as I am.

      Nooooo they definitely made a ton of money selling different color combinations for the joycons, it's such an easy way to refresh the look of your console without having to buy 3rd party shells or skins. I think the reason they've pulled back on colors is to match the sleek and modern look that a lot of other handhelds currently have. Lowkey I think that's a mistake, this new redesign looks really boring especially as far as nintendo products are concerned

    My biggest concern is the joysticks. part of the reason the old ones got drift was because the lip of the thumb stick was way too high letting dirt and stuff get in, and if you look at the switch 2 1:03 (you might need to go frame by frame, its the < and > keys) it has the same high lip, so theoretically it will have thew same issue. the joysticks also just look small again.

    • @AlpacaEggMuffins
      @AlpacaEggMuffins 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      I hope for (our and there) sake that is resolved. There is chance that they'll use hall effect joysticks instead which would solve the drifting issue, so this may have been counteracted someway just below the lip with some protection? I'm saying this because drift was such an issue to the point they issued free repairs to anyone effected, and no company wants to issue free repairs, so it'd likely be fixed

      If the presentation was in February, that means they would have been ready to release it in April.
      The presentation being in April, the launch is probably around June.

    About the Joycons. You missed something during the cgi morphing of them into the new ones.
    At the top and bottom are Latch Hooks. Probably an unseen Release for those on the cons or the System itself, but they'll lock the Cons into place, and the Physical Circuit will provide a better connection for Charging the Joycons.
    An example: my nephew has a switch, and it stopped registering when the left con was attached to the system completely... So we had to buy an external Joycon charging thing(NOT ACTUALLY A LICENSED PRODUCT) so he could continue playing.
    That won't happen here. Instead, they'll attached in a way akin to a Game boy Cartridge... Could the Attachment break? Probably. But you would have to be pretty rough with it to do so.
    Plus not having to slide on means no more Faulty latch, making the cons disconnect mid-game and detach, resulting in the Switch falling to the ground while you are standing outside, waiting on a school bus(for example), and shattering the screen.(my other nephew. Poor kid.)
    It's an improvement. And possibly a step back, technologically, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

    • @iamc24
      @iamc24 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The new joycons attach magnetically; there aren't any latches in the slots on the side of the Switch 2. The latch hooks are for the new straps where you can see the latches, and the straps themselves have a button for releasing the latch.

    • @matthewrowlett1564
      @matthewrowlett1564 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @iamc24 first: THERE ARE NO MAGNETIC CONNECTORS ANYWHERE . Solid plastic. Magnetic connectors are VISIBLE.
      second: The latch hook things for the Strap makes sense... Except they are at both ends.
      Third: they attach via Metal Circuit Plug, much like a Hard drive on an Xbox one or certain PCs. The tiny latches Are likely to hook BOTH the Wrist strap, AND latch the Cons into the System. That is an exposed Circuit used for connection. A magnet would fry that connector.
      Finally: that's likely an LCD, or OLED, screen, rather than a simple LED... Both of which are EXTREMELY succeptible to magnet damage. Ever sat a magnet next to a TV? Bad idea. How about a video game console? Game card? Magnets can damage all three. Putting in enough magnetic screening to put magnetic attachments on this would drive the price up significantly, meaning it would cost somewhere in the PS5 Pro/Apple I-Phone Range, Which Nintendo has stated they WILL NOT do.
      Does it Click in via these 4 little latches? Maybe, Maybe Not.
      But there is not a single glimpse of a magnetic connector. So unless the entire Shell is made of magnetized metal, magnets are unlikely.
      That was just a Rumor from an unsubstantiated Leak.

    • @iamc24
      @iamc24 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

      @ The magnet issue with electronics has been solved for a while now. Nowadays, they only really affect the parts that use magnets to function, like speakers, cameras, compasses, and hard drives. LCD and OLED aren't susceptible to magnets; that's just wrong. The only displays that magnets affect are CRTs. Also, no modern form of memory or storage (that isn't a hard drive) is susceptible to magnets. And basically all modern circuitry is shielded against magnetic interference. Obviously a strong enough magnet can still cause interference in any piece of electronics, but it would need to be an industrial strength magnet, if not even more powerful than that. No consumer product would have or even need a magnet that strong.
      As for magnetic connectors not being visible, they really don't need to be. The magnet in my laptop can hold two old plastic gift cards in between it and something else metal without any slipping, and it isn't really all that strong. Stronger magnets than that would be used for the Joycon attachment, and it would be absolutely fine, even if there were layers of plastic between. And that's not even considering the fact that there could be magnets in both the Joycons and the Switch 2, instead of just on one side of the connection.
      Finally, in the promotional animation on their website, you can see that the Joycon release trigger pushes out a circular part of the top of the inside of the Joycon connection. That would be for breaking the magnetic connection enough to be able to pull out the Joycon. If Joycons did connect with latches on the Switch 2 side, the release mechanism would be very different. And again, I'll repeat: THERE ARE NO LATCHES IN THE SLOTS ON THE SIDES OF THE SWITCH 2, YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE AREN'T.

    At first I was also worried about the new controller design, but as I've thought about it it's probably better. The weakpoint of the og rails was upwards, if too much force was applied (or you damaged it by not using the button) they could fall out. The weakpoint of the new design it outwards, and you don't often have significant force in that direction. It's also magnetic, so it can't wear out (unless the connector is damaged, I hope Nintendo did enough testing on that)
