I am a machinist and the company that I work for manufacture large irrigation pumps. We use this same method to straighten shafts to within .002" over 2 meters. However we use a hydraulic press to bend the shaft, not a hammer.

That is the foundation of "tool and die making" And its younger but much bigger brother Mechanical engineering. Best wishes. You should look into diesel pump repair. Not diesel engine repair! Just the pump. That is a smaller item like a 400cc engine size, but its loaded with parts, valves , tiny pump pistons, all timed precisely, and in need of someone like you to service them correctly. Best wishes...Diesel Pump Repair ! Youll make bank 🤑rolls in a small shop if you can learn it!
