Thank you, a brilliantly produced and imaginative way to present a then and now video. Although things like air quality in the area have improved, very little else has. Sadly the great Victorian architecture of the five towns has been largely lost due to the incompetence and corruption within the council's over the decades.

Jimmy Fox: Great video. Well done. This music is dynamic: I have thoughts of Texas running through my mind.
    Stoke is a great town.

The “1957” scene of Campbell Place is actually from 1956. The ABC Majestic cinema is showing Van Johnson in “Miracle in the Rain”, which dates it to May, 1956. You can't see it on this image, but I have the original Post Card and it's quite clear on that.

So... a great illustration of how a once vibrant city has now become a sxxxithole. The 60’s and 70’s town planners have a lot to answer for.

Meir had a high School that was like 5 storeys tall until a spectacular demolition took place with dynamite and there came another school that only has one storey

The loss of industry is what killed the city. London finance companies in the eighties swooped on pottery firms that couldn't export any more because of the high pound and who were being crippled by high interest rates on loans. The financiers asset stripped the factories and sent the work abroad.
At the same time the moving of car production abroad crippled the dozens of small engineering companies that made screws, bolts, brackets, etc that had supplied it.
Add in Shelton Bar closing and that gives us modern Stoke in Trent. Treated as a joke by "comedians", branded a "ghastly place" by the late Duke of Edinburgh and a place where it's possible to see three slanging matches, a punch up and be asked for money 15 times between Boots and the bus station.
And the bus station is crap as well.
