Mudwings are underappreciated. They have an hour of underwater breathing, tanky scales, brute strength, they breath fire, and on top of that, a chance to have fireproof scales.
I agree! I think the only reason that they were put so low is their lack of representation throuout the series. If there were more books with mudwing pov characters the fandom would probably be much more loving of them. Book one was the only book with a main mudwing character, and that book focused mainly on worldbuilding and charachter development, rather than intricacies of the tribe. I personally would love to see the mudwings explored more with a Winglets or Legends novel.
The thing about Silkwings is that they never had a chance to be anything. We know next to nothing about their history, their culture, and even their abilities. Flamesilk is something that Queen Wasp tried to hide, and back when Beetlewings were around, they were said to have even more abilities. After the tree wars, Silkwings were essentially stripped down to their name alone. Their ability to make silk was useful to Wasp, and later on their antennae were too. But they could never do anything more than that. Luna got swept in a silk parachute all the way to Phyrria, isn’t that cool? What if Silkwings before the tree wars often made parachutes for wingless dragonets or injured Silkwings? What if they had a language of their own that they spoke through vibrations on silk lofts like strumming a guitar? What if certain colours on Silkwings were rumoured to show your personality, kind of like zodiac signs. It could be said that green Silkwings were fierce and competitive, or yellow Silkwings were curious and creative. Blue Silkwings could be loyal and Loving or purple Silkwings could be adventurous and hard-working. What if they had beautiful forests of colourful trees, calligraphic silk art along the bark and branches. Flamesilk lanterns painstakingly crafted for ceremonial celebrations or holidays for Silkwings to whisper their greatest wishes into, before setting them free. There could be little doctors appointments for getting dragonets ready for their metamorphosis, and trying to calm the worries of those who were scared. Synchronized dances to form pictures with their wing patterns, hide and seek games where the seeker only uses their antennae, murals of stories weaved together with silk. But unfortunately all of this is a what if. The tragedy of the Silkwing tribe is that they don’t have that, nothing in their world was made for them. They have no way of finding out who they once were, what it means to be a Silkwing. They don’t get to weave tapestries of their stories, their homes or their happiness. Everything they make is a what if, a dream of a life they couldn’t achieve without tragedy.
Tbh SkyWings are just the classic dragons that’d you see in fantasy stories and medieval stories -Red -Big Wings and body -Can breathe fire with no problem -Fly very far -And more So SkyWings are just Classical Dragons basically with a few things added of course
I thought the same thing when I first read the books! I didn't like them at first because they seemed basic and also grumpy, but for some reason I grew to kind of love them over time, and now they're the tribe I'm most personally attached to, aside from Rainwings

I may be a teensy bit obsessed with NightWings- They’re just so cool with their powers and connections to the moons, and I’d ponder about their secrets all day if I could. What would happen if they were hatched on a blue moon? Or a super moon? Or a micro moon? How long does it take for the egg to turn silver? Like, how long did Moon’s egg have to cook in the moonlight lol What would mutated powers of the NightWings look like? Did other dragons have the same idea as Secretkeeper and hide their eggs too? Is there just a group of telepaths and seers running around the continent? If an egg wasn’t laid in the moonlight but still hatched in it, would it still have powers? Does it have to be the exact night of a full moon or can it be around that time? I could go on. Btw, NightWings arguably have the most facial scales. They have the scales flat on top of their heads, scales right next to their snouts, silver teardrop scales for telepaths, and eyebrows.
I can just imagine Morrowseer and the other dragons frying and eating the ruined eggs. Fried eggs are delicious. If Secretkeeper actually ever has a cracked egg, let me know.
I honestly really like Dragonslayer! I usually don't like books with people as the main characters when set in a world like Wings Of Fire because I just didn't think they would be able to do it good but they really did in my opinion! I loved the boon and would love to see a second Dragonslayer book.

SkyWings have some religous things about them, they believe in reincarnation and this was proven in book 6 when they wanted to put Carnelian's body somewhere where she could be released to the sky so that she would be reincarnated as a SkyWing instead of another tribe. :D

7:07, I loved Dragonslayer, but here's the thing. They literally just took over book 14 and 15! This is, indeed, A dragon book series. not a human one.
I really wish we get more on silkwing culture before or during the tree wars. Just things like how did it play out, or what key events led up to monarch giving up the throne. Silkwings aren’t my favorite but I still want to know more about them. If anyone wants to know, my fav tribe is sand wings. I just like the way their tribe was portrayed through the books and how the eye of onyx can choose anyone. Also thorns mentality towards being queen seems great to me. (Edit) I could go much more into detail about sandwings or any other tribe, but I won’t because that would require a comment that takes you a while to read. (Like right now)
Spoiler: The Flames of Hope could have been a good book for Sora and the MudWings. Sora could have easily learned the morale about vengeance killings in place of Luna.
I guess...But in what world would anyone allow Sora on the team? Even if she sneaks into the group to avoid having to interact with the icewing, skywing, rainwing and mudwing queens, remember that Qibli and Moon are part of the team.
If I could choose to be any dragon tribe in Wings Of Fire, I would be a SandWing. They’re clever, they know how to survive on rough circumstances, they’re always up for a good time, and they love music! They’re definitely my favorite tribe. I already have my dragon life planned out for if that did happen: I would immediately travel to the Scorpion Den and become an Outclaw. That way I could proudly serve for Thorn, go on epic missions under the command of Sixclaws, and become best friends with Qibli. It’s the perfect dragon life.

Yeah... the Mudwings don't have much of a spotlight... don't get me wrong, I love Cleril. But the fact Clay happens to be a Mudwing is irrelevant. And you put it absolutely right. Peril is just built different. As for the SandWings, you said it perfectly. Absolutely adore Jerboa. I tend to agree with her on the whole not socializing much part. And her backstory is... yeah. Like Peril, theres just a lot to unpack. I've spent way too much time thinking about how things would be different if she'd been spotted book 9, and also have Qibli find about about her book 10 and team up and bounce ideas and her freaking a little at finding out Glacier is dying, but beong utteely unable to do anything about it. Oh and Moon is freaking cute.

I actually find scavenger's a very interesting part to the plot. Its kind of dissapointing that everyone hates them so much. Whenever I talk to someone who doesn't like scavengers they alwasys say, "well I read wings of fire for the dragons not humans!" Like, really? So what if there not dragons there still a really interesting part of the plot. But noooo, since there not dragons they obviously are the WORST
skywings are my personal favorite. they have key characters and drive the plot for several of the other tribes. scarlet was controversially the main villain in the first arc and ruby was vital to the academy in passive ways. scarlet contributed to the sandwing succession, entirely book 8, albatross' fiasco, and more

Bit of random here but I kinda wanna say what I think the best hybrid would be for an assassin or scary combatant. Hivewing/Rainwing, the reason being that if the hybrid got lucky with the genepool, they'd have like 3 or 4 ways to poison or melt someone. Cause Hivewings have their paralyzing venom, and Rainwings have their melty venom, imagine if the 2 combined. It would be like an irl tarantula's venom, paralytic flesh melting scary time but in a dragon dozens of times bigger than a person.
I think RainWings deserve to win. :D And SandWings for second (Or tied for first, because I like them quite close). :D Edit: pretty happy about the results, my three favourite tribes got first equal. :D

My favorite part: Ahem Ahem QIBLI 😹 also the nightwings where under a erupting volcano with no food and got chased to that place out of terror and desperation they where forced to do the rainwing kidnapps and probably felt sorry for them ( a few nightwings tho not the whole tribe)
i think the scavengers, while just being normal humans, are always very appalling. they had the bravery to steal dragon eggs and expect nothing from it- they sailed into the ocean, knowing nothing about whether they'd be trapped at sea or not after the scorching, and the fact that they're described to never be together by dragons, and are seen rarely, which is why dragons don't enjoy eating them- they haven't built up an appetite for them. they live in super cool, all unique societies- some underground with smart wingwatchers, hiding effortlessly from their biggest predators on pyrrhia, some not even living in societies- perhaps alone in an underground cave filled with the othermind- or maybe a whole other underground one on pantala, or some that live openly in towns and sacrifice their children to dragons so they'll spare them- or even a gigantic, walled, indestructible city that shoots fireballs at dragons, with a prince who wears dragon scales in pyrrhia- they're truly interesting and different than us- and it's extremely interesting. personally i wouldve given them an A at least.

Sand wings and rain wings are my favorite tribes and I’ll never be able to choose between them. I rated the tribes and made sure those two got 10. Then I like sea wings and Ice wings the same, sky wings a little more than mud wings. I haven’t read the pantala books yet but from what I heard, I already love the three tribes. I need to finish Darkstalker legends then i can read the lost continent, etc.
I think Sandwings are a little overrated... they are fine but the only reason why the tribe is popular is because of the characers instead of the actual traits.
I disagree, personally I think that is what makes the sandwing tribe the best tribe, they have awesome characters and the abilities this tribes has makes they one of the most dangerous tribes. (Plus they have Qibli but he is in a league of his own).

I really like the silkwings mainly just because theyre the only tribe with dragonets who arent born with wings. They're interesting and unique with that factor. Like actual butterflies but instead Dragons.
I recently have been obsessed with rainwings, Nightwings and a new one, seawings! I've made a oc that their parents were a nightwing sea wing hybrid and a rainwing so I could get a character with all three >: ) But I love all tribes, some more than others(sorry mudwings) I'm so sad I was in D teir :(
I think the only tribe that didn’t deserve a+ was probably leafwings even though they are probably my 3rd favourite tribe because it was just carried by one of my favourite characters as well and that is partially true with the sand wings. Though they definitely could earn that spot if we had a little more time to explore both their cultures and even though we had 1 book for rain wings they are the coolest tribe with all their abilities. Other than that that is basically in order of which tribe I would be if I were in the wof world except that I would swap sandwings and leafwings. Regardless I love the video and keep making them :)
I agree, leafwings are extremely underdeveloped. I believe they are three key reasons why they are so popular despite that. First, they are the tribe that didn't submit to the hivewings and continued to survive for decades despite losing their home and being forced to live in the poison jungle. People simply admire their determination. Second, they like Sundew, which I don't get personally(I view her a far less interesting version of Tsunami).Third, Sundew is also the first main serie pov character to not be straight and that made the fanbase happy.

I was fine with, and even enjoyed, the scavengers during the first and second arc, Dragonslayer, and even the beginning of arc three (The Dangerous Gift, meeting Wen and Sky). But then they became like, main plot points and fairly important characters and I was disappointed. I liked the idea of them having their own civilizations and stuff and even having an impact on the War of SandWing Succession but I really started reading Wings of Fire because it was the first dragon series where humans had very little effect on the dragons. I was very disappointed when Tui made them solely responsible for the Scorching.
It was always implied that humans caused the scorching. I predicted that they were also the cause of the othermind months before flames of hope came out.
I am going to try and break down to which tribe I would want to be So I would want to be scavenger, seawing, icewing, or any pantala tribes so 5 lefts I wouldn’t want to be a night wing either because they aren’t really trusted so four left Neither is wanna be a rain wing because they aren’t good at fighting It’s hard to say but I wouldn’t be a sky wing because they can’t blend in at all So between mudwings and sandwings it depends for me If I could choose how I wanted to be I would choose mudwing to get fire proof scales but if not I’d be a sandwing What do you think?

If I could choose to be any dragon tribe in Wings Of Fire, I would be a SandWing. They’re clever, they know how to survive on rough circumstances, they’re always up for a good time, and they love music! They’re definitely my favorite tribe.
I already have my dragon life planned out for if that did happen: I would immediately travel to the Scorpion Den and become an Outclaw. That way I could proudly serve for Thorn, go on epic missions under the command of Sixclaws, and become best friends with Qibli. It’s the perfect dragon life.
The LeafWings and RainWings are also deserving of the top tier. This is a really good tier list.

@@judovanviegen2786 Jerboa 1 2 and 3, the three sandwing sisters, Sunny, Vulture. Some slightly less important ones are Onyx, Palm, Prickle, Smolder, Sixclaws, Cobra, Dune.
It is so cool how the continents are shaped like dragons and how they are facing each other. I just noticed that while looking at the maps in the books.
Yeah... the Mudwings don't have much of a spotlight... don't get me wrong, I love Cleril. But the fact Clay happens to be a Mudwing is irrelevant. And you put it absolutely right. Peril is just built different.
As for the SandWings, you said it perfectly. Absolutely adore Jerboa. I tend to agree with her on the whole not socializing much part. And her backstory is... yeah. Like Peril, theres just a lot to unpack.
I've spent way too much time thinking about how things would be different if she'd been spotted book 9, and also have Qibli find about about her book 10 and team up and bounce ideas and her freaking a little at finding out Glacier is dying, but beong utteely unable to do anything about it.
Oh and Moon is freaking cute.
I cannot describe the sheer wasted potential in Carnelian ._. Wings of Spirit on AO3 is a pretty good Carnelian-central fic that will never be finished

I actually find scavenger's a very interesting part to the plot. Its kind of dissapointing that everyone hates them so much. Whenever I talk to someone who doesn't like scavengers they alwasys say, "well I read wings of fire for the dragons not humans!" Like, really? So what if there not dragons there still a really interesting part of the plot. But noooo, since there not dragons they obviously are the WORST

skywings are my personal favorite. they have key characters and drive the plot for several of the other tribes. scarlet was controversially the main villain in the first arc and ruby was vital to the academy in passive ways. scarlet contributed to the sandwing succession, entirely book 8, albatross' fiasco, and more

Bit of random here but I kinda wanna say what I think the best hybrid would be for an assassin or scary combatant. Hivewing/Rainwing, the reason being that if the hybrid got lucky with the genepool, they'd have like 3 or 4 ways to poison or melt someone. Cause Hivewings have their paralyzing venom, and Rainwings have their melty venom, imagine if the 2 combined. It would be like an irl tarantula's venom, paralytic flesh melting scary time but in a dragon dozens of times bigger than a person.

You should do a ranked dragons in specific tribes. Like seawings. Or rainwings. A tribe who gets a lot of fans but for specific characters.

i think the scavengers, while just being normal humans, are always very appalling. they had the bravery to steal dragon eggs and expect nothing from it- they sailed into the ocean, knowing nothing about whether they'd be trapped at sea or not after the scorching, and the fact that they're described to never be together by dragons, and are seen rarely, which is why dragons don't enjoy eating them- they haven't built up an appetite for them. they live in super cool, all unique societies- some underground with smart wingwatchers, hiding effortlessly from their biggest predators on pyrrhia, some not even living in societies- perhaps alone in an underground cave filled with the othermind- or maybe a whole other underground one on pantala, or some that live openly in towns and sacrifice their children to dragons so they'll spare them- or even a gigantic, walled, indestructible city that shoots fireballs at dragons, with a prince who wears dragon scales in pyrrhia- they're truly interesting and different than us- and it's extremely interesting. personally i wouldve given them an A at least.

Sand wings and rain wings are my favorite tribes and I’ll never be able to choose between them. I rated the tribes and made sure those two got 10. Then I like sea wings and Ice wings the same, sky wings a little more than mud wings. I haven’t read the pantala books yet but from what I heard, I already love the three tribes. I need to finish Darkstalker legends then i can read the lost continent, etc.

I think Sandwings are a little overrated... they are fine but the only reason why the tribe is popular is because of the characers instead of the actual traits.
I disagree, personally I think that is what makes the sandwing tribe the best tribe, they have awesome characters and the abilities this tribes has makes they one of the most dangerous tribes. (Plus they have Qibli but he is in a league of his own).

I really like the silkwings mainly just because theyre the only tribe with dragonets who arent born with wings. They're interesting and unique with that factor. Like actual butterflies but instead Dragons.

I've made a oc that their parents were a nightwing sea wing hybrid and a rainwing so I could get a character with all three >: ) But I love all tribes, some more than others(sorry mudwings) I'm so sad I was in D teir :(

I think the only tribe that didn’t deserve a+ was probably leafwings even though they are probably my 3rd favourite tribe because it was just carried by one of my favourite characters as well and that is partially true with the sand wings. Though they definitely could earn that spot if we had a little more time to explore both their cultures and even though we had 1 book for rain wings they are the coolest tribe with all their abilities. Other than that that is basically in order of which tribe I would be if I were in the wof world except that I would swap sandwings and leafwings. Regardless I love the video and keep making them :)
I agree, leafwings are extremely underdeveloped. I believe they are three key reasons why they are so popular despite that. First, they are the tribe that didn't submit to the hivewings and continued to survive for decades despite losing their home and being forced to live in the poison jungle. People simply admire their determination. Second, they like Sundew, which I don't get personally(I view her a far less interesting version of Tsunami).Third, Sundew is also the first main serie pov character to not be straight and that made the fanbase happy.
I feel like they should get a book of each tribe, mostly so mudwings can go up!

I love silkwings so I was a little sad to see them in b but it’s fine also here are some great things about them
1 it’s very cool how they get wings later in life
2 their design is just awesome I mean they have antenna and butterfly wings and it’s so cool
3 they have been abused by Hivewings all theses years and they still can be happy that’s amazing
4 they have a lot of good charters Luna swordtail morpho grayling -even blue

I was fine with, and even enjoyed, the scavengers during the first and second arc, Dragonslayer, and even the beginning of arc three (The Dangerous Gift, meeting Wen and Sky). But then they became like, main plot points and fairly important characters and I was disappointed. I liked the idea of them having their own civilizations and stuff and even having an impact on the War of SandWing Succession but I really started reading Wings of Fire because it was the first dragon series where humans had very little effect on the dragons. I was very disappointed when Tui made them solely responsible for the Scorching.
It was always implied that humans caused the scorching. I predicted that they were also the cause of the othermind months before flames of hope came out.
Before he said Qibli, I'm like, "no way he forgot". And then when he said "Qibli!" I'm just like "Phew!"
You could probably rank the scavengers too. Pretty sure Wren would be at the top, though.

I wouldn’t want to be a night wing either because they aren’t really trusted so four left
Neither is wanna be a rain wing because they aren’t good at fighting
It’s hard to say but I wouldn’t be a sky wing because they can’t blend in at all
So between mudwings and sandwings it depends for me
If I could choose how I wanted to be I would choose mudwing to get fire proof scales but if not I’d be a sandwing
