Hey everyone. I'm sorry the music is a little bit loud in this video. I'll make sure I lower the volume next time. I edited this on a Mac so I didn't notice it was as loud as it is
Thanks bud, I think I'm going to keep those little additions as it does seem to be going down well with people. Just a crazy idea that I had while editing
Hey man I have been watching for yearsI love you.I didnt see the usb devise in your list of things you use have a similar one but not so good one.I was glad to see you back.I have learned alot from you and you encouraged me to go and do,I thank you.
Glad you posted this video, I crashed out last night and didn’t see the end of the oled, you can’t win em all Phil, great feed last night you’ll get it as more come available to see being repaired
Unless I missed it, check the battery? If it's shut down connect bench supply at no more than 100mA until it gets up to 3.8V. Maybe it won't attempt charging until it sees battery voltage?
@thecod3r I'm still watching this video so not sure of your result yet. But what I have noticed with oleds if you get any weird power issues, the ALJ chip just go the left the cpu can cause very odd power issues. A reflow on this has been succesful for me 4x now. Also, left screw under the battery, take it out, lift bottom plastic up and away, this will make removing the main board and putting it back far easier.
Had my first OLED the last days and it was very water damaged. After lots of cleaning, reflowing and reballing I still had the same problem as your switch. The small 9-pads IC on the backside of the battery-connector did solve it! Gave this one also a fresh reball and the switch started even fast-charging right away! Maybe this can help someone.
Is inductor by bq all ok ? I had a switch taking no charge, replaced m9, bq then realised the inductor was open circuit some how. It sort of just snapped off the board when removed like it was corroded internally Phill 😃
When you reseat the chip and you press on it and the solder blop comes to the side, isnt it flowing from the center pad (thermal dissipater center) and isnt that sometimes makes a short? does wisking it away or solder tip it with flux isnt the blob still connected under the chip?
Have a word with NorthbridgeFix he has the same problem with different resistor on the same OLED board and he does not have a spare board to check from ether so you both in a position to help each other out.
I think we just need more experience with them first. I don't mind talking to Alex but it's unlikely he'll speak with me. I'm not exactly in his favourites list lol
First off I like how your production skills/quality is going up with the little on screen notes and stuff. Doesn't seem to slow your post output at all :). However the day you put in jumpcuts I'm leaving.
I like your video ! I don’t really all understand because iam French and bad in English , but if you fix it one day iam sur its soon better than factory 👍🏻
The oled is way better I sold my v2 model and brought a oled model i play on the TV most but of screen the oled is way better then the normal the colour is loads better I prefer the kick stand as well much more secure hope your well mate
are you sure nintendo haven't put one of those sneaky fuses on these?, this switch is behaving just like the ds lite. they would be just like this when the protection fuse was blown.
That's very possible, I never worked on a DS so I didn't think of that. I'll definitely be revisiting this at some point though so I'll look into that one 😀
@@TheCod3r it must be charging circuit? any different to the old Switch? I know much less than you and ive seen voltage inject but i cannt say more, lol. I look forward for part 2 video :)
@@TheCod3r yeah absolutely. See if you can get hold of another board to just check the oled display? They're selling for about that price anyway. Push comes to shove you can flip that.
me too, but I didn't because I messaged the seller about this, and another oled. it pop up under a similar seller name, same location. but he said he was only selling one. so I smelt something fishy. and didn't buy. as for the motherboard needing the screen connected it doesn't, just the battery, the same as the old switches, I know this because when I replaced the WiFi chip. I had the pcb connected to the dock with only the battery and antennas connected.

I enjoyed the fill music. Very nice.
That’s why we have a volume button Phill screw the neighbours haha
Lol soo glad you noticed man 👍🏼
What what's that comment to my post on your video mate is it a scam somone maybe hacked ur account
@@rich35ukuk Got the same here, its from another youtube account if you look
Thanks! Really liking the popup text that gives a brief explanation of what the parts do. Such as the battery charge chip and such.

@@TheCod3r And a great one, I'm fairly new to your channel and those really helped understanding what everything is for. Love the content, thank you!
You make it al look so easy

Cheers mate, yeah fingers crossed with a bit more time and experience we will figure them out
Liking the new addition of the chip identification on the video 👍
Cheers mate that seems to be going down well, so that will probably be here to stay now
Your videos are amazing, you have such skill in soldering and manipulating these really hard to manage things
Thanks for the new video, watching it now
Unless I missed it, check the battery? If it's shut down connect bench supply at no more than 100mA until it gets up to 3.8V. Maybe it won't attempt charging until it sees battery voltage?
I could try that but I did try a working battery with 3.8v and it didn't change the symptoms, I just left it out of the video to keep it at 30m :)

I guess that's the best thing about being in your profession you can fix just about everything and you know it works
Not everything but we try our best 😁
Not dead CPU / APU. Married components etc.
Amazing Work
There is no choice but to see how far the current is steadily flowing in the energized state. good luck with the repair.

Switch Noled - love it!! Haha. At least you had a go, sorry you didn't get it going.......yet!!
Haha cheers mate. Yeah it's worth a go at least but I guess it won't be the last we see of this one
Hey! Been looking forward to this!
I'm sure you'll figure it out buddy, especially when you get another board for comparison
Cheers bud, fingers crossed. I think we just need to learn more about then to be fair
the music at 4:30 startled me lol

subbed on twitch! your awesome
Thank you bud, the support is greatly appreciated 🙏
Freeze the board with tin air then put power to it and see if anything get hot just a option
It would be usually but in this case it wouldn't work because the board wasn't drawing any current, so it wouldn't heat anything up
I'd check those SMD capacitors they sometimes short when they fail.

Video gamesque
Cheers mate much appreciated
Ultra sonic cleaning, before any repair attemt, to get rid of the corrosion?
You can but that gets rid of evidence so can hide the areas you need to work on
@@TheCod3r You could take 4K Pic of the board befor the Ultra Sonic cleaning :)
Is there anyway I could buy that motherboard from you?
Best version of "Mambo No. 5"
Haha thanks mate 😂
Need measurements or pics I have a couple working oleds

Is it a shop that you work in or is it your house you work in

The nvidia chip in the switch is the same one as the nvidia shield tv uses
why not a thermal camera? :p
Valid point, but because there's no current draw nothing would be getting hot unfortunately

Good try, hopefully you sort it out in the near future :D
Are you going to change the port? Possibly the the pins internally shorted in the port because it was acting funny when you flipped the connector.
Maybe if I get it to charge a battery but it doesn't seem to be the port at the minute. If I can get it to charge I'd definitely replace it though
I'm going to watch this.
I’ve been waiting for this episode phil. lol thanks for obliging.
i want an oled, for the tiny bit of extra screen size, i just cant justify getting one while owning a regular switch and a lite lol.
They do look pretty decent in terms of screen real estate. For me I don't play the normal switch so I doubt I'd play the oled
I was going to buy this, glad I didn't now 😂 if you couldn't fix it, i definitely couldn't!
Haha yeah lucky escape mate, I don't mind though it's worth it for the experience plus to be honest I'll make it back on the video anyway
