IMPOSSIBLE $500 Chevy Impala LS Flip *Is There Anything That Isn't Broken?*

  • I bought this 2001 Chevy Impala LS for $500 expecting to replace a couple parts and send it down the road running like a top. This 216,000 mile car had other plans in mind for me. After getting the alternator off and removing the belt tensioner assembly I checked the pulley on the power steering pump and found the pump itself disintegrated. I picked up a replacement P/S pump, swapped the pulley, installed the new pump and reassembled the car. At that point I had a random misfire and ABS issues to deal with. I fixed the misfire by replacing all the spark plugs with NGK V-Power Platinum and the wheel speed sensor by soldering the harness back together and securing it all properly. Cleaning the car took hours and I should've outsourced that part of the job. After that I reassembled the dash and replaced many of the burnt out interior lights with LEDs.
    Parts Used:
    Gates Serpentine/Accessory Belt K060919: amzn.to/2IPwc7j
Gates Belt Tensioner Assembly 38271: amzn.to/2L6MCv0
    Power Steering Pump: amzn.to/2UzgDCT
    Power Steering Reservoir Cap: amzn.to/2VfkxFD
NGK V-Power Platinum Spark Plugs (QTY 6): amzn.to/2VmjlQE
    ------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s the gear and camera equipment I’m using!
    Helmet: amzn.to/2zaSAAm
    Gloves: amzn.to/2zbAIFH
    Camera: amzn.to/2hS3PKy
    Tripod: amzn.to/2hLX3Ta
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Fury, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make TH-cam videos and work in enterprise data storage.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
    Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

Maintenance is key. American cars, from what I heard, are a little more difficult to since they are awkward in many mechanical aspects. Front wheel drive Chevys were more reliable in the 2000s, anything before that is trash lmao

My son just bought a 2000 Impala LS for $500 as well. The intake manifold exploded likely due to a fuel pressure issue (apparently common on these 3800 series 2 engines). Replaced the manifold, the fuel vacuum lines, the MAP sensor and fuel pressure regulator for less than $200 and the car is good as new! Well, as new as a 22 year old car can be. Great investment if he decides to sell it.

Ozium is good stuff. It won't 100% eliminate the odor, but it will knock it back down to tolerable levels. The other key to eliminating smoke odor is to shampoo carpets/floor mats, clean the windows(nicotine stains on glass is disgusting, turns paper towels brown), and scrub every plastic/leather surface thoroughly with soap/water like JR did.

Had an 02 Impala 3800 SFI, non-turbo, named that POS Medusa. EVERYTHING went wrong with that damn thing. Bought it for a grand. Not 2 weeks later had to replace ALL the gaskets on the top end. About a month later damn engine shredded part of the camshaft bearing. Mechanic had an extra engine and had it switched out for another grand. Picked it up and a mile and quarter later sumbitch caught fire when it blew a brake line that was spraying brake fluid on the exhaust manifold. Got that fixed and immediately sold it for $1500 and as the poor sap who got it drove away I could the bearing whine of the water pump!

I had an 03 base model i bought when it was only a year old. Great car, very reliable. It was a tank. Lots of city driving, even used as a delivery vehicle for a while. One day, i was driving home at rush hour when an idiot kid in his Mom's Altima drove right into my front right corner. the Altima got pushed 20 feet down the road, lots of damage, stalled and wouldn't start. Had to be towed. I drove the Impala home, It got a new fender and headlight. The alignment was fine. No wonder Police and taxi fleets used these cars.
PLease keep doing these average car flips. I love seeing good honest cars getting a second chance!

    • @pgtmr2713
      @pgtmr2713 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Probably just kept replacing the belt. I've got a power steering leak, the fluid keeps ruining the belts. Takes me 5 minutes to swap the alternator belt on the side. 7 minutes to do both. Before anyone gets all high and mighty about fixing the leak. I've got a brand new pump for when I figure out where the leak is coming from. The pump has been replaced twice already and the leak is now a dribble. There is so much oil and rubber on the back and corner of the engine I actually need to pull the engine to clean it and fix the problem anyway. Helicoil a timing tensioner bolt hole, replace the headers. It's like a 4 hour job to do the pump by itself. Hour and a half to remove the engine with the transmission which has to be drained. I only want to do this once, on the 4th or 5th try.

      @OrangeCrusader 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@WatchJRGo I don't think that's true beyond ONE manufacturer of coolant and their own formulas- mixing SOME OAT and HOAT coolants can cause a chemical change that gels the fluid or changes its pH so it eats at seals/metals. It's a stupid gamble to take for a $6 savings if you don't know what in it already.
From Chysler's own TSB (07-004-12 REV. A) on this.
CAUTION: Vehicle Damage may occur if dissimilar coolants are mixed!
Coolants of different technologies are not compatible nor interchangeable (OAT, HOAT or
      IAT).
Mixing these coolants could result in:
      • accelerated corrosion within the engine and cooling systems.
      • the coolant having an ammonia smell.
      • debris (particles) floating in the coolant.
Further inspection by the technician may find corrosion in the system. This could show up
as aluminum pipes turning black in the coolant system, engine overheat, or leaks in the
      coolant system.
