Sorry to correct your beliefs, but they originally were in Sonic 2! But strangely enough it would mess up the color pallet for Tails, so they had to settle with red. And it’s been red ever since. It was revealed to the public later on, and that’s why there’s so much fanart for Tails with blue shoes.
