    I actually think this episode is pretty hilarious, from Silvio's ridiculous concern over Columbus Day, Artie getting the freeze drink thrown at him and cowering in the car, Janice gaslighting her therapist and throwing Ralph down the stairs, Tony going off on Silvio at the end. Good yucks abound.

    From what I heard, everything south of Rome is looked down upon in Italy. I don’t think Italian mobsters are very sensitive towards or ability Columbus and/or Columbus Day. I’m Italian-American and I associate Italians and Italian-Americans with organized crime as well. Look at our culture. It’s immeshed in the Godfather Franchise, Goodfellas, the Sopranos and numerous other widely-distributed works that glorify La Cosa Nostra. You can’t have it both ways, Folks.

    As someone who's spent over 55 years immersed in the study of historical events it's definitely a source of amusement watching people who know next to nothing about history in general, or the history of world slavery in particular, wax incoherently from all sides of the argument. Even a lack of the most rudimentary information still isn't enough to elicit a hint of embarrassment.
    While propaganda has historically been particularly easy to digest, veracity and nuance seem to be difficult concepts for the average knee-jerk reactionary. There isn't a prominent historical figure that doesn't have supporters and detractors among the masses........most having little to no understanding as to why they support, or detract as they continue to succumb to even the most laughable revisionism.
    When it comes to the topic of slavery, the amount of disinformation that is disseminated on a regular basis, at a variety of levels is absolutely breathtaking. History is far to important to have agenda driven drivel supplant historical accuracy.

    I like how people always leave out the inconvenient part of how natives treated natives. Things are always presented as paradise until Europeans show up. Ya sure. Natives slaughtered each other too. By the millions. Just like people always fail to mention that it was Africans who owned fellow African slaves and then sold them to Europeans. Africa has countless slaves to this very day. But yes let's just paint Americans and Europeans as bad only.

    • @ryanoneill3192

      No one claims tribes like the Aztec were good.

    • @HighLordBlazeReborn
      @HighLordBlazeReborn หลายเดือนก่อน

      You misunderstand the argument being made. This is a theme I see with conservatives: they don't bother to understand what the argument even is, they rush in with half an idea and their opinion.
      The issue here isn't "good Vs bad". That's laughable, and insulting, because you think people who hold anti colonial beliefs all have the IQs of children. Stop being condescending.
      What natives do to each other, with rough technological parity, is one thing. When natives war, massacre each other and whatnot, you get cultural assimilation. Some parts of the original culture and thought of the conquered still survive because even the invading party share a cultural basis with them. A bunch of people who have no claims at all to anything and a totally different culture coming in from outside, erasing local cultures and history and enslaving and murdering people is a different thing altogether. The reason you're not able to understand this is either because you're culturally white, or you as an individual have had no connection to the non-white part of your self. Do natives conquered by other natives have generational trauma? Of course. Is it as long lasting and damaging as colonialism? You would get laughed out of a room if you said yes. Go to parts of the world that are still stuck in literal hell and try and tell them this. Go read up on what the US did to Haiti (and still does).
      If you don't understand an argument, make an effort to do a bit of research. If your starting point is "I'm smarter than everyone and therefore their arguments are all childish", you'll just be yet another person that goes from cradle to grave with nothing other than the opinions your family gave you. No growth. Just a life spent being proud of ignorance.

    Big problem hanging some historical pride on Columbus is there’s so much myth wrapped around him. He never discovered America or set foot in North America. I think Haiti is as close as he got. And then he thought he landed in India!! Great navigating there huh. 😂
    So many Italians throughout history worthy of ethnic pride. Columbus just wasn’t one of them. He suxed at his job & took credit for something he never did. The Vikings made it to North America many centuries before Columbus was even born. Sil’s idea of ethnic pride is as big of a fraud as Columbus the “great explorer” is.

      @@BayAreaMike99 lol. Hey maybe Tony is right. You’d have to be brave to sail the ocean knowing your navigation skills completely sux. Even by 15th century standards. By pure luck Columbus runs into Haiti & thinks he’s in India. He was only off by 10,000 miles or half the size of the planet. 😂.

    This is the only time Tony makes an intelligent statement in the entire series. Except he was wrong about how Sil got everything in his life. Sil DID get everything because of his ethnicity. He’d never be allowed into this mob family if he wasn’t Italian. All mobs are inherently racist because they are all created around strict ethnic lines.
