So fantastic to hear this man talk about Richard Widmark who was one of my favourites and who is now all but forgotten. They don’t make them like that anymore.
This is one of those interviews where I would like to hang around, crack open a few beers, and listen to more stories that are shared--probably after the camera stops rolling. Thanks, Rob, for bringing us another fun time on a Sunday morning.
What a wonderful interview. So many times child actors have trouble moving into adulthood, it’s great to see two from my youth who transitioned so well.
Wow! I loved the pure honesty of this guy. He shared an insiders’ look at some actors that was captivating! I think he needs to write a book. Thank you Rob!
Darren McGavin's performance in Christmas Story is pure comic genius. Loved that movie. A holiday classic from an underrated literary genius, Jean Shepherd who drew on his own personal experience of growing up in small town Indiana in the 40's.
Can you believe JACK NICHOLSON almost played the father??? He was doing TERMS OF ENDEARMENT or else he would have. The director respects him but was glad to have Darren McGavin.
This episode warmed my heart so many times in those too short 23 minutes! Michael McGreevey was a such a great guest! The captivating annectdotes kept coming one after the other. And when the added bonus guest Bill Mumy joins in for all the great Walt Disney stories! Those kids were so lucky to be part of the Disney family back when Uncle Walt was still there, and made sure everything was running smoothly, and that every kid on his tv shows and movies were doing okay and "having fun". I was not born yet, but it made me wish I could have been there during those days of the Mouseketeers, Spin & Marty, and all those great Disneyland western series. Thank you for another wonderful show Rob!
I loved this interview. Such great stories and actors that I watched as a child. Thank you so much Rob for letting me relive some of my childhood. Love your channel.
I wrote to Burt Reynolds about 25 years ago and he sent me a photo back from "Smokey and the Bandit" that he autographed for me. He was a very talented actor that could play so many different parts.
Michael McGreevey and Billy Mumy seem to really have a good perspective on Hollywood and their careers. They "know the deal" and are very down to Earth.
Now, if they can just get the Schultz twins, Keith and Kevin (who starred as pre-teens and teens) in the TV Western series, The Monroes (mid-late 1960's) to reflect on their time in Hollywood and that series, which also starred a young Barbara Hershey and Michael Anderson Jr. I had such a huge crush on them back then!
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Matthew Adam Garber (25 March 1956 - 13 June 1977) was a British child actor who played Michael Banks in the 1964 film Mary Poppins. He appeared in only two other films, The Three Lives of Thomasina and The Gnome-Mobile, all three times appearing alongside actress Karen Dotrice. All three appearances were in movies by Walt Disney Pictures. Ten years after his retirement, Garber contracted hepatitis, which later affected his pancreas. He died of pancreatitis at the age of 21.
Eddie Little Sky was a great Native American actor much overlooked today. I met him in Jamestown once and he and his wife Dawn were so kind and down to earth.

Loved these tales! Both McGreevy and Mumy and all the other child actors, it's almost like they grew up with me. Hadn't heard the Burt Reynolds Gaven McCloud story and I thought it most interesting. Great episode.
"Gaven McCloud" ????!!!! How did you come up with THAT?? Gavin MacLeod was the captain of "The Love Boat," not the "Riverboat." Darren McGavin was the captain of the "Riverboat," not "The Love Boat." Burt Reynolds did not throw Gavin MacLeod off of "The Love Boat ." "McCloud" was another series entirely starring Dennis Weaver as a cowboy cop out of place in New York.

My Uncle Dale went to high school with Darren McGavin in Galt, Calif. My junior year in high school I started working weekends at Pollardville Ghost Town, a tourist attraction between Lodi & Stockton, Calif., as a cowboy/gunslinger/stunt-teen in the old west shows/gunfights we put on every hour on Main St.. Couldn't really call it work. It was way too much fun getting shot off the hotel balcony, stagecoach , or horse...plus getting paid a whopping $1.25 an hour. Absolutely instilled my deep love of westerns I still have to this day. Worked at the Ghost Town til joining the military in 1970. Earlier in 1970 landed a night job as food server & dishwasher on the set of the Moonshine War directed by Robert Altman (M*A*S*H the movie). Met Richard Widmark, Alan Alda, Patrick McGoohan, Will Geer (Grandpa Walton), and Lee Hazelwood in his first movie. Lee had several hit songs out with Nancy Sinatra (Some Velvet Mornin, Jackson ect). Great guy, but here he is a millionaire with hit records and he kept bumming cigarettes off me. He smoked like a chimney, we smoked the same brand, and every time he ran out of smokes he'd come looking for me...an 18 year old dish washer. Got to the point I tried to avoid the mooch.
Thanks Rob for another truly wonderful video. It is great to see these talents recalling all these terrific stories. I always look forward to your videos. Please keep them coming!

Thanks, Chucker. What a fun summer gig. Big bucks!
@@AWordonWesterns: Thank YOU sir. I watch your videos religiously. The nostalgia is wonderful for my old soul.
😷 Rob, this was a great interview 👍
Thanks Rob for another truly wonderful video. It is great to see these talents recalling all these terrific stories. I always look forward to your videos. Please keep them coming!
Thanks John.
Disney stories in this episode are great. The Way West is unique because of several suspenseful, bizarre and surprising scenes.
Another fantastic interview. Thank You !
What an amazing episode. SO interesting. Such a great idea interviewing some of the child actors. They see and hear everything. I remember talking with Sherry Jackson a few years ago. As a child she had been in a lot of the westerns I grew up with. Fascinating!
Thanks, Kent. Check out our two AWOW episodes with Sherry. She, too, had some amazing memories.
