Love following your work, man! Thanks for the layout tour. You're building the sort of medium sized, simple layout that I'd like to one day. I'm excited to see the new harbor layout project come together.
Medium sized layouts are my favorite. They stand a chance to reach 90% completion. Well done sir. I am also a summer RC car nut during the summer months and railroad reserved for the cold winters.
Hi Matt, I really appreciated your honestly regards staging. Based on your experience I will add movable open staging in an adjoining room. All the best for 25 and keep the vids coming!
Thanks for the tour Matt. Have enjoyed your videos and learned a lot from them over the past year. Like you I have not completed as much on my layout as I had hoped, but life tends to get in the way sometimes. Here's to you and hopes for a more productive year in 2025. Cheers!
Nice use of space! Great layout, great update. Very well thought out! My room is smaller than yours, but the limited space means I can get things to the scenery stage much faster (although more space would be nice). I also have my desk/workspace surrounded by layout.
What a great update! I really like your industrial track work, it looks really functional. The hidden staging is nice too, even it might be a pain sometimes. Best of luck in 2025!🎉 Happy New Year!
Thank you, Matt, for the excellent tour of your model railroad. You're making good progress and your work-to-date looks great. I look forward to following progress on the MFRailroad. Mike
Great Tour! Just a thought…not sure it that’s a load bearing wall or not…but with a little/lot of header work…you could open up that access from the closet side via some “rough wall window framing” so you have a little more access. All in all you have a great space coming together. I’m 24 x 17 on The Eastern Dakota and Wilkin…and if I could do it over… I’d have made the room 2 feet longer and 2 feet wider. Kept the layout the same just stretched everything out a bit.
Really enjoyed the tour of your mancave. Very nice use of space. TH-cam can act as a motivation but also a stress factor when you feel obligated to produce videos. If you're like me you work when the mood and inspiration hits you. No need to apologize for that. I look forward to any progress you share on either layout. Cheers to a great new year.
Hey Matt, like your ideas for the layout and having the same amount of space, I will be interested in your op sessions for that size area. I’m not sure what your plan is for the explosive area so if you could take a photo of the prototype and have it blown up that would be helpful! Dave…
Many years ago, a potential father in law who was not to be as it turned out, worked for UP (pre-merger). Knowing that I was a train enthusiast, he invited me to ride along with him in the cab his GP 30 from Coeur d’Alene to Sandpoint and up to the border with a return. He did that run every night. It was mid summer so the light was good well into his shift and the scenery was at times breathtaking. At some points, the track was hanging on to a ledge with a ravine that fell hundreds of feet below in the middle of old grow timber. It was the highlight of 1991 for me. His daughter was a close second. 😛That's probably why he never became my father in law.
Your layout is pretty awesome! Nice tour video of the layout and space. I like how some of your industries are a siding on the foreground/fascia side , and not entirely needing to model the industry. I think something that can be operated by 2 to 4 people is about perfect for a home layout, small enough to be manageable by one person for the most part, as far as the build , and if you can add a friend or two for operations, that allows for having operating sessions without needing a large group of people, or a rotating between a few sets of operators, but also not so many jobs that you can't still enjoy the layout solo. I am shooting for either 2 or 3 people in my hobby room setup eventually... probably 2 operators and I'll just supervise/dispatch if I end up with more than one visitor at a time. I may end up finding a way to have 3 operators as I'm in the middle of a project this winter that is in N scale, and I will be deciding after this next year if my permanent layout will in fact be N scale or HO as I had initially planned and started collecting for. N would fit more into the space , with runs seeming a bit longer between places, and might possibly work to add enough operations to have 3 people working at a time. It looks like you've planned and utilized that space well, and I love the pictures as a bit of visual reference for the not yet modeled scenes. I also like how you've shown the use of the space and workbench, etc... I am planning a layout around the walls of my hobby space, and it will also continue to be used for some other purposes/hobbies as well. Cheers, and Happy New Years!
I’m glad I clicked on your video tour. Very well thought out with nice scenery. I will be looking forward to seeing more of your layout in the future. One question: What is the height of your benchwork? Thanks for sharing.
I always enjoy good layout tours, so thanks for that. I never saw a shrimp or fish tank underneath a layout before. Doesn't the humidity cause any harm to the benchwork or so?

I agree too large of a layout can become overwhelming. It's like putting way too much food on your plate and you can't eat all of it .
@@adriengadson3544that is the perfect metaphor! I love going to the buffet, but I never feel like I get my money’s worth.

Layout has come a long way since I've been watching it. I'm in the process of rebuild my layout and doing a,point to point deck layout
Layout looks fantastic, great job on the swing gate, I used your technique for painting my backdrop
I’d love to see detail on your swing gate. Brilliant execution. No power feed issues?
Swing gates both have power running to them.

Great layout ideas Matt. Well done , you gave me some great ideas for my On30 layout. I’ll be following your progress.
Nice year end review…did realize you had that staging…you have lots of great scenic venues to build…looking forward to it…
Thanks for showing us your layout footprint. Looks good.
Great video. I am glad I found your channel.

That is an amazing story! Thanks so much for sharing it! I hope to make it out that way one day.
Outstanding layout and room. Look forward to more!

I’d have to check. My room slants a bit but I think that it averages between 50 and 52 inches.
Very nice! Thanks for sharing.
great thanks for showing
Nice video, thanks for sharing.
Nice layout.
ooh beautiful planted tank
lol thanks! It should be beautiful, but it is mostly a big mess.
Impressive.
Nice layout. I have a much smaller scale layout.

You can get them from MacRail
hi matt ! nice pike ! i did not see your diesel service facility... could you give an update on it ?
Haven’t built it yet. It is the track the steam locomotive is sitting on though.
I always enjoy good layout tours, so thanks for that. I never saw a shrimp or fish tank underneath a layout before. Doesn't the humidity cause any harm to the benchwork or so?
