When he reached over the student seated at piano and he played example of what he was trying to get the student to do....you would have thought someone SWITCHED the instrument. The score is like paint. What the musician does with the paint is up to him. Some critics just like paint by numbers. Too bad, because they have no clue what the original painting looked like anyway. Don't forget that a lot of music was written for the performer to improvise upon and the scores were not cast in stone, like some would have us to believe.

Lang Lang makes these expressions since he was a kid. Even when he was the student in Master classes taught by Barenboim, he made those same expressions but in the master class that you don't see in his professional adult career is not just the facial expression but also the breathing he does to be in the moment to expresses the way he plays. As Two Set Violin says, he conducts himself.

Noticed that the first violin didn´t want to shake his hand? During the whole piece he looked displeased and uncomfortable, i can understand why some musicians don´t like him so much, because sometimes it seems he is more like a showman then an actual pianist. Forget about the "show", it´s the music which matters and if u like him or not: You must admit he has brilliant technique and an extremely good feel for the instrument. I like this interpretation very much, eventhough i don´t like the showman in Lang Lang, but that´s just personal preference.

A graceful, virtuosic and original rendition of this waltz. How elegant, refined, sensual and exquiste Chopin's (music) waltzes are. The repeated notes don't sound too clear when played too fast and some parts are a little agressive or too fast but it is still a very interesting interpretation (I love the ending, it's very creative and convincing) One of the aspects of your performances that I love the most is how confidently you play in public. Expression comes from emotion.
Those will reflect on body language and face.
Some people might like it or hate it.
Regardless on his face expression, Lang Lang has amazing technique and feeling. It took me awhile to adjust the way he express himself. But when I hear the tone, dynamic, hand gestures, all match up through his face expression.
I'll bet he is not Lang Lang anymore if he play just like other Pianist with straight face or may be just with regular expression.
And this comment will not matter anymore.
Anyway, I learn alot from Lang Lang just watching his hands technique, fingers, tone. All Video free on TH-cam.
Some people who don't like him might might missed the opportunity to learn alot from the best.
For those who don't like Lang Lang expression, might look for the other best Pianist as my recommendation.
Nobuyuki Tsujii who was blind has really amazing techniques also but with less face expression.
These two young Master (Lang Lang & Nobuyuki) really perfected their craft in Piano.
I believe in the next 30 years, they will be Legends that touch many people heart throughout many generations to come.

Lang Lang is brilliant! And here's how he would play the famous Toccata & Fugue in D minor by J.S. Bach. You won't believe your ears ! th-cam.com/video/W7pD4-LQb8A/w-d-xo.html

0:39 Lang Lang's hair style makes him look like a person who just woke up and is having a wonderful morning

We definitely see and hear a young pianist at his best, sharing all his brio with us all. He also seems to be quite a charismatic figure, which adds to his unquestionable musical genius.
