  • The Marshall MG10 is the smallest and cheapest in the MG line of amps. It's really straight forward, has no bells and whistles, and it could be a great little practice amp for you and your guitar. Is it? Let's find out.

I have this amp and I love it. The plus points for me are it's great to practice on a low volume in my flat, not everybody can turn amps up to hear the flaws with them. Also it looks beautiful with the gold and black colour scheme, you cant see ths really in the video but in real life it's very apparent. Makes you happy when you practice! I am glad I found your channel as you review gear I have, I can't afford high end guitars and stuff.

The MG10CD was my first amp back in 2006 and is definitely worth it for the headphone jack. I have mixed memories associated with this amp, and in a way, that makes it more special to me.
I had practiced so irregularly, mostly due to my psychologically abusive family(ablest an narcissistic) and it was even stolen by one of my sisters when I moved out temporarily from home. In fact I so rarely used mine because drawing attention to myself in any way led to significant and prolonged bullying from my siblings.
Mind you all, I chose not to take lessons for reasons I wish weren't the case. I was self-teaching and it wasn't going to sound decent for several more years, which hopefully highlights that none of my siblings had any musical experience and were just pushing buttons knowing they'd change my behavior and perception.
To this day, almost nobody has heard me play guitar. I don't feel inspired to share it either. It's not about my ability, but that I don't wish to receive feedback at all. Headphone jack ftw

Thank you for this excellent review and video. I enjoy how in a short amount of time you put it through its paces and show where its limits are. In California you can buy these on sale for about $100 new (€94), and about $60 (€56) in the used market. I have the MG15 model, that I bought used for $80 (€75)... 5w more and larger speaker/cabinet with better sound for really about the same price (comes with Equalizer, no delay/rev). What you said is true about these amps, they keep you focused on your skill rather than get caught up and confused with tone settings. Thank you again for a great review and all the best from California.

A few years ago I walked into a local GC and in the used gear section spotted a Marshall MG15 with a price tag of $9.95. I figured at that price there must be something drastically wrong with it although it looked brand new. Plugged a guitar in to discover it was fine. Obviously I bought it. A bit later I put a Celestion Eight 15 in it. It's just been in the past year that I discovered that the contour knob on a Marshall works like a mid in reverse. Yeah, I was that unaware.

I love my little MG10, which I bought cheap second hand. I own several amps and even a quad box but I mostly practice with the MG10 - usually clean-ish and with the amp high on a table right in front of my face at a lowish volume so as not to disturb the household. I would recommend adding a reverb pedal and then you’ll get a very pleasant sound- especially with single coils. The overdrive is, to be sure, so-so but no worse than any other small amp. I’ve also got an ancient ‘50s no-name tiny tube amp that is probably a bit broken but has a great low volume distortion when I need it. But, it only has that one sound. I find the Fender far more pleasant than the Roland cube which I also own. BTW, I’m on the lookout for a MG15R.

No a bad little fella, not great. For a beginner though I think it would offer some decent tones. I did really like the clean channel. I think it's something in how a Marshall is voiced that is so unique on their clean channel that sounds good to me. Apparently they keep that voice even in their little practice amps. Fender, vox, even the Roland microcube clean is always so pristine and with Marshall there's always a little rasp to it. Lovely to the ear. Great video Elmo!

Hola, mi Amigo! I used to have an MG10CF, the only visible difference being carbon fiber covering instead of Tolex (thus, “CF”).
To make a long story short, it was the noisiest piece of garbage I’ve ever owned. Even without a guitar plugged in, hiss and hum city. I even went through an exchange thinking it had to be defective, but same story with the replacement. I wound up giving it to my son, who was just starting out at the time.
Sounds like Marshall must have made some major improvements, since that was over 10 years ago.

This is an really good amp for the price. And I will say why - Last time when I was in guitar shop trying out guitars - I didn't want to bother guy to get me like - better and bigger amp - so I chose this smallest solid state amp in the shop - and you guessed it right - it was this one. Now. I didn't try out overdrive , but the clean channel was really usable , amp is super light , that 6" or 6.5" speaker sounds bigger than it is. Amp doesn't sound like " tiny box " and it really filled the room nicely. And most insane part - price is 80-85-90$. :D Like , insane. ^^ Now - If I didn't need USB connectivity in an amp and if I needed " regular practice amp without USB connection " , for sure I would walk away from shop with this one - It's a really cool amp. :D But maybe some if sometimes in near future I have 85$ extra to spend - for sure I would go with this amp. It's just cool deal for the price. Very very descent amp.

Any ideas on amp simulator pedal to use in the clean channel that can get that Marshall sound? great as a first amp if youre just starting out or need something small to practise in a flat or something but for more advanced players it doesnt fit the bill/ Thats my opinion though and Im sure someone else might disagree.

Never start with a bad amp. NEVER. Buy a cheap guitar but never buy a cheap amp.

Does it have a constant background hum? In some reviews it exists and is horribly loud.

10W Marshall: "Oh classic sound in such a small size, also cheap! Nice tones for budget amp!"
10W Fender: "What a pile of crap I can't stand its horrible noises. Why you exist?!"
