Both the recovery from the anaesthesia and the analgesics we give, such as opiates and clonidine, can decrease GSC. In the critically ill we have to broaden our differential diagnosis to include conditions such as polypharmacy overdoses, seizures, head injuries and intracranial bleeds/thromboses, hypoglycaemia, respiratory failure (severe hypoxaemia, severe hypercapnoea) and many many more.
