      That still doesn't sound right by modern standards. Nissan can report whatever they like, most companies do. VW and Toyota are well documented to have massive market shares, far out stripping any other rival companies. Maybe Nissan was back in the 90's or whenever this case was but highly unlikely. All three of those companies are pretty niche now and have lost large amount of the market for multiply reasons apart from Renault who are still a bit niche but are at least steady.

    To all those calling him an idiot; This story was not about taking off with the money. It’s like having your dream car and someone offering you $15M at first.. and then after rejecting the offer, sueing you and trying to get it that way instead. I would do the same as Uzi. It takes a lot of guts and courage to stand up against a company that big and for him to pull it off successfully after all those years of fighting speaks volumes. We need people like this. It’s not about ego, it’s about standing up for yourself and keeping the big guys in line. If people like this didn’t exist, corporate companies would steam-roll right over us. Look at the bigger picture.

      Randolph Thomas II Standing your ground and not letting the big corporations walk all over the common man is a much more important message. In a country where the justice system is a whipping block for billion dollar corporations to protect their monopolies i applaud this man for standing up for what is rightfully his and not backing down for a monitary value like you did in your comment. Grow a spine and realize that knowing you didn't back down and cave in to their money offer is the best thing a man could do in that situation.

    Uzi Nissan or Jalopnik didn't talk about how much money he was profiting from the site. He had advertisers on the site and the Jalopnik artice said that court documents showed the site was getting 500,000+ hits a month.

    • @motorcityoctane6713
      @motorcityoctane6713 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's how TH-cam robs its creators pennies on the dollar. The site was his & he got 100% profit. Why do you think he didn't want to sell. Not because of principal because he was making money. The Judge even agreed, he was forced to pull all car related advertisements from his site, thats when he got mad.

    • @alexmad93
      @alexmad93 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Average cpm for an ad is about $4. multiply that by even a conservative 5 ads on his page, thats 8k a month. youtubes advertising is very different than a regular website.

    • @BladedAngel

      Neezy Ko that depends on the TH-camr, length of their video, and genre. I make $3-$4 for every 1,000 views. We wouldn't work for $1 per 10,000 views. That's insanely low. Not even my secondary gaming channel makes that piss poor gain. Gaming still makes like $1 for 1000 views. I'm not even on google preferred, so chances are your favorite gamer TH-camr's are hella millionaires with their CPM.

      Here’s the deal-
      We pay a few unseen taxes for living in a world in which you can go out- seek employment and receive money for your time. Break that down- how incredible is that on the smallest level imaginable. We can purchase vehicles that travel all around the state- even purchase tickets to travel around the world. If you live small enough- you can do all of this on 30,000 a year. You could make that at McDonalds. If you have something that somebody wants- and they offer to pay you for it m- choose wisely. Because that unseen tax I spoke of is having your opportunity to do all of those things ripped from you- if you do not just simply comply. Think that is unjust? Go to Saudi Arabia, the Congo, Djibouti, Russia. Tell me how your “just” world works out. You’ll find even on our worst day- America is still one of if not THE best destination to be in our world as we know it. Don’t believe me? Do some traveling

    I deal in outboard boat motor parts with my job and nissan is still doing stupid stuff like this to anyone that uses the word nissan anywhere online. Years ago nissan brought over japanese tohatsu outboards rebadged as "nissan" to get in on the ever increasing boating business of the 80's and continued into the 90's, well as a parts supplier I have to sell these parts for not only tohatsu but nissan motors as a tohatsu dealer. About 4 months ago we had all listings on our ebay store for such products taken down for copyright infringement for the word "nissan" in the title even though all we sell for them is factory OEM kits for tohatsu and therefor nissan outboard motors. It's horrible business practice and wastes a lot of money to go after any and everyone using your name even when selling OEM parts for your motors...

  • @1994TeeJay1994

    It's like people in the comment section don't know the difference between:
    a) asking for a unreasonable amount of money because you really don't want to sell something somebody else wants; and
    b) asking for unreasonable amount of money, more than you were offered with
    Let me spell it for you:
    Uzi Nissan wasn't offered anything. He asked for fifteen million dollars, because the domain was his property in the first place. He did not want to sell it. Nissan Motor Company, obviously thinking that because they have more money than this little computer business, decided against buying the domain for the asking price. They instead sue the poor guy for ten million dollars, citing - in layman's terms - that they "own the Nissan trademark" and as such Uzi Nissan was "infringing on their property" by registering his domain, before Datsun decided Nissan was the new name to go.

  • @alexdex97
    @alexdex97 6 ปีที่แล้ว +131

    Nissan went through all the correct legal ways of getting the site. They offered him compensation which I’m sure was substantial, but the guy must have been unreasonable. His site isn’t even used for business purposes anymore, it’s just to collect ad revenue and defame Nissan motors. You guys gotta realize that sometimes the small guy might be the asshole.

    • @joshualaw375
      @joshualaw375 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think in the beginning, he wasn't being unreasonable. He just wanted to keep his site, which Nissan Motor did not register prior to the lawsuit. After a while, it probably became an ego thing. My guess is, the only reason he still owns the site is because he put so much effort and money into it, he doesn't want to give it up. Plus, as mentioned in the video, the site obviously hasn't been modified since the late 90s.

    He turned down 15 Million to keep a domain name for a computer company that doesn’t stand chance. It sounds like a very foolish ego trip to me. He could have grown his silly computer brand with the 15 mil and settled for right to use Nissan Computers, which more accurately represent his business. He’s a fool who let his ego run and likely ruin his business, as apposed to making sound business moves to grow his brand.

    Lotta Nissan motor's ass kissing in this comment section... Normally all the US people would be on the underdog's side... Wonder if it's because he's an immigrant...
    But seriously, the company changed its name after he registered the site. It's his prerogative to sell or not. But a big greedy company couldn't settle on "nisanmotors" do whatever because they weren't forward thinking enough.
    Imagine if someone wanted to build something where your house was, and you were forced to sell via imminent domain. Would you be pleased with that? Big companies think that only they have rights to everything, and we just sit around and let them do whatever-the fuck, because "hur, that's capitalism." funny thing about that, it's not really. Forming monopolies, oligopolies and bullying smaller businesses isn't capitalism, at best it's crony capitalism.
    In hindsight, 15m isn't shit for an auto maker. But instead they would rather try and bully some guy and take it because he didn't want to sell for their price. That's not at all a free market. That's basically robbery, he should have counter-sued for harassment and attorney's fees.

    Just sell the domain to Nissan for a realistic value, buy a new home/start your business and change your website to NissanComputers or whatever (work out an agreement with Nissan). But it is his and he can do whatever he wants. As if he will ever do anything with the website... it's rocking the mid to late 90's HTML look right now and had ads. Probably making some money off people mistaking his site for the automaker's. His actions make absolutely no sense to me as life's opportunity has given him a cash cow he cannot feed and nowhere to keep it. Like being given a space shuttle in your back yard; unless you are Peter Griffin, you are never going to use it. Sell it to the Smithsonian for a few million for all to experience and retire. I don't feel sorry for Mr Nissan, I don't hate him.... I just think he is a stubborn unrealistic person that will die a very bitter old man.

    the court judgement was fair, he kept his url and got his way. But let's be honest, just have a look at the freakin website! What a useless waste of space by a good url on the web. Legally, theres nothing wrong with him keeping his domain, but farrrkk, you've gotta be one hell of an idiot to turn down 15 million and make your family and business run through all of that. Plus, if he took that 15 million, he could've grown his business and gotten very rich himself.

    Wow the comments here are totally ruining me. Everyone seems to have missed the point of this entirely. He didn't want to sell the domain in the first place. He was never offered $15m (or any amount at all if we take this video to be the whole truth, except for the trade of nissancomputer.com). I would imagine he only said $15m to make a point that he was not interested in selling the domain. It's a classic case of people being bullied by large corporations through lawsuits. He registered the domain and pays the renewal fees, so it belongs to him. He is likely keeping it now purely on principle. Just because a mega corporation has billions of dollars and can pursue lengthly legal battle, they think the have the right to dictate anything. The average person stands no chance of getting their way even if it is morally or legally correct. Imagine spending $3 million dollars of your own money to keep something that's yours. A very similar situation is currently taking place between TH-camr Doug Demuro and Domino's pizza. He bought a wrecked Domino's DXP delivery car and restored it, and now the company is taking him to court for copyright infringement to get that car from him.
