Wild Ride Into Italy’s Dirtiest City

  • You better lock your bike when you go in there is what I have been told. And I kinda know why. It’s pretty wild in Naples. A lot of traffic and dirt on the streets. Very exciting to ride in here but I surely don’t need to do it again;) anyways, I prefer the 2000 year old Roman City remains that we visited earlier that day. Can’t believe they built coffee shops the same way we do still in 2023😄 thanks for watching guys 🤙🏼

    Fun fact for both you: the peepee on the rocks in Pompeii means that the building it’s been painted on is a brothel! The people of Pompeii were huge into party culture and houses of ill repute are no exception. Great job getting through Naples!

  • @BossmodePictures

    Fun fact: The "road blocks" were not really meant to stop the traffic but to slow it down as vehicles had to be really attentive to go over (or better: between) them. That way, it was not as dangerous for pedestrians to cross the street. They are the first "Zebrastreifen" in History.

    • @stephenwilliams6103
      @stephenwilliams6103 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, the pedestrians could cross from one side of the street to the other, without walking in horse shit. Using the big boulders as stepping stones🤔, I guess😁😁😁🇬🇧🇬🇧

    I went to Napoli once... People told me Napolitans were the ones who invented the t-shirts with the safety belt stamped on, when Safety belts were made mandatory... It was also the first (and only) time I saw a dude on a scooter, making a U turn on a road with a central separator like a sidewalk, while eating an icecream... and everyone honking.

    Pompeii is fascinating but huge and difficult to explore thoroughly. We found nearby Herculaneum better. It's smaller - less has been excavated - but equally well preserved and to a greater height. I wouldn't drive in Naples. Our local tourist-bus driver struggled a *lot*.

    • @giancarlotammaro3732
      @giancarlotammaro3732 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ercoano had been burried by liquid lava, while Pompei had lots of ashes, that's why Ercolano is better preserved. Napoli is an ancient greek settlement, it's not meant to be visited by bus :)

    hallo Marc. Du warst definitiv in den falschen plätzen in Neapel! Die engen gassen und strassen, waren nicht sehr sehenswert. Nicht weit entfernt wo Ihr gegessen habt, war die Altstadt. Spaccanapoli, die engen Gassen der Altstadt, mit den etlichen Kirchen und Museen. Da ganz in der nähe war auch der Königspalast (Palazzo Reale) mit dem ältesten Theater europas (Teatro San Carlo). Neapel war Hauptstadt eines Königreichs. Das nächste mal dass du nach Napoli kommst, musst Du unbedingt den "Cristo Velato" (den verschleierten Christus) sehen. Den "Cimitero delle Fontanelle" (der Schädel Friedhof), die Catacomben, und und und. Der Verkehr ist hektisch und chaotisch, aber einmal überstanden bist Du in der schönsten Stadt der Welt! Einfach mal vorab fragen. Z.B. morgen sind wir in...was gibt's da zu sehen? Von Pompei, fahr doch einfach mal nach Sorrento, oder in die Amalfi küste. Viel spass noch in Italien, und falls du jemanden brauchen solltest, der etwas übersetz von Italienisch auf deutsch, einfach mal anschreiben.

    When you say the construction in Pompeii are similar to what we do today, we must not forget that the Romans "engineers" and architec were among the best of that era. So many things they built still standing today without being buried in ashes, like the Coliseum, bridges and aqueduct. They also built cities in Gaul (France) like Lugdunum were Romans theater and arena still stand. And they had aqueduct carrying as much water to the city then as is needed today. Wish I could visit those places.

    Well done for surviving Naples! Your discs may not be warped Marc. You have been doing all the right things to give them uneven surface texture. Riding on salted roads, leaving them wet and not using them hard. Give them an "Italian tune up" get up to a good speed then brake firmly for as long as possible with even lever pressure. Don't come to a stop but let the brakes off smoothly, get back up to speed and repeat maybe 3 or 4 times to get the discs hot. Best to clean the discs an pads with clutch and brake cleaner before doing this. Try and use the brakes fairly hard at least once per ride. Good luck. Gazza

    My parents took me to Italy on holiday 50+ years ago, & I recall walking up Vesuvious & around Pompei. I also recall a dude walked up the volcano in bare feet, & there being a couple of grizzeled old men sat offering "boiled eggs" cooked in the steam escaping from various fissures. I also suffered from heat-stroke during our walk around Pompei resulting in feeling really ill(was under 10yrs old)My dad had built the baggage trailer & it suffered a worn out wheel bearing so we were advised to drive into Naples for a replacement, this was why I learnt "left/right/straight ahead" etc in Italian as we asked dozens of times for directions(long since forgotten)until we eventually found the parts dept(amazingly, they had the exact replacement needed despite the trailer axle being an old car axle from a scrapyard)There's a saying "see Naples & die" but I think they mean it's a beautiful sight not as we found where other motorists appear determined to kill us. :P

Our kids spotted a nice pizzeria in the square so we went in there first but it was so good we were too late to walk up the hill to the chapel. A year or two later there was a nearby earthquake and the chapel was destroyed so we never actually saw it! 😂🤣😂🤣

    What you thought was a road block in Pompeii is a pedestrian crossing. De standard size wheels of a wagon would fit between the stones so the horses and wagons could go there.
    With this kind of pedestrian crossing the people did not have to cross the street through the mud and horse droppings.

      the orange/yellow tomato are the original tomato, in italy we call that Pomodoro, if you split in half that word become "pomo d'oro" (golden apple), in the past the tomatoes were only yellow that's why pomodoro, also was tipical of naples and south italy either

    Nice vide, very nice video. Regarding brakes, on electronic vehicles, their effect may be less, as regeneration is often used, instead of using the brakes. That problem is seen with fossil vehicles when "saving" (rolling down the speeds to intersections, etc.). Therefore, if your electric vehicle is equipped with standard brakes, it is important to use them a little more, so that water, dust, dirt, etc. are removed. As far as I know, electronic vehicle manufacturers have developed brakes to suit where regeneration is used, however they are quite a bit more expensive.

    Marc, I really enjoyed the video when Maree was pillion. If she’s comfortable on the back then I think it makes much nicer content than her just following you in Jimmy…(just saying) 🙏🥰

    • @MarcTravels

    It's grossly underappreciated how much work goes into filming. Walk up and setup camera. Walk back and then walk through shot. Walk back to pickup camera. Continue walking to destination.... Phew. I need a nap.
