A classic example of a lightning strike through a LAN cable, the lightning discharged on the three closest components, the LAN chip, the 3.3 volt power supply and the connector from the display!
That's a nice theory unless you know that the 3.3V PWM is a known faulty component on this motherboard dying in the hundreds. Usually it lets through a main power rail short into the other components, I'm surprised the CPU survived this time, pretty rare.
5:05 grinding that is sometimes better option compared with ripping the trace off and replacing it with wire because i think chip is being cooled by transferring heat to that pad.. in this case it's sufficient but might be a good habit to take that approach next time ...
Yeah cool vid to walk the extra mile. It could resutl in a fixed machine! You did break your own rule an dlistened to the customer. Fell for it :D. I think it has to do with acredibility switch.
Hi Sorin, Why don't you write notes on the back of these faulty LCD screens. The notes you wrote on the back of these panels for testing purposes may come in handy. Thank you so much for this repair videos..
Silvers are webbook CPU's. Basically Celerons. Slow but do the job. I bought a craptop with 1 in to watch movies on and browse the Internet. Use hardly any power.
The IC on the screen board had both the 18v backlight and the 3.3v present so I suppose if that IC went bad both faults could occur? I wonder what would happen if you swapped that IC from the broken panel to the one that has two faults?
very good job !!! but as i heard YOU DON'T WORK at the computer shop where you started ?? so you mean you're working at home?? that's my question to SORIN today... thankss
Sorin, thanks for the 1h+ long video!! Just a thought experiment: would it be viable to get the inverter from the cracked screen and replace it with the one on the board of the original screen? I mean, I think the most valuable part is the LCD itself, which seems intact.
1:52 for a 5w cpu that is great cooling... i belive that whole motherboard is acting as a big heatsink and that fan is moving air across it so everyting is beeing cooled propperly. Uncoventional ? maybe... but i belive it's doing great job
hello sir i have an probook 430 g5 working very well but the fan is always on and the machine temperatures are very low andi have disabled it on the bios
Question. If the screen has two faults , screen and backlight. I assume the inverter is needed to crank the backlight up to 40ish V and thats broken but what about the picture signal? Is there a video GPU in the screen the convert the signal coming in to a picture and thats broken too?
52:13 he is pushing 3.3v to T-CON board that is responsible for converting signals (LVDS or eDP) coming directly from GPU/iGPU to signal that are needed to draw individual pixels columns on the screen (t-con ic and gamma correction circuitry probably are connected to 3.3 that spiked ) ... there are also led_enable used to signal screen to disable when laptop is off/sleeping and led_pwm to control the brightness ... those come from superio chip.. hope that answers your question ..the part that is also broken is
Thanks, i hardly touched LT screens board repair and i forgot about what i knew of LCD TV's and the diff boards they have, but all shrunk down into that little strip on bottom of screen here. Backlight and video are two separates that cant fail same time? so was it high voltage go through the 3V inputs and blow the two areas? If so, I assume the fuses didnt work as the amps got through before they blew? He applied 3 V to both but the circuits are dead. He couldnt find same strip to swap out but as always, finds the faults where other shops cant.. Excellent channel.
@@xx3868 @@xx3868 i think gamma/tcon and backlight circuitry share 3v3 it's just strange that superIO didn't get taken down with it.. It would be a stretch for him to replace invertor ic on that screen board. This repair wasn't viable but it was perfect for demonstrating how it's all connected.. About the fuses.. since delicate circuits get damaged by voltage they don't pull any more current than usual while doing so(if they fail open) .. if they fail completely short they trigger oc protection... So fuses are there maybe there just to separate fried part from circuit or as a last failsafe. I am not shure just telling from my observations and experiences..
there are lvds lcd screen testers with 14 different cables on aliexpress for around 50$ have not tried it yet but it might be a great tool anyone familiar with them ?

This is an extremely cheap laptop with very poor performance, probably cost something like 250€ when new. I don't know if it's worth the cost of repair plus a new monitor
Definitely not worth repair, any computer shop will just throw this shitty laptop away and offer to customer some older, but still decent business class laptop...
Wouldn't really call this an economically viable repair. That is one cheap laptop. As a learning/educational video it has value other than that not really.
There are time I feel like a pro and there are time I feel like a beginner when I watch every videos of Sorin
No copper was harmed in the making of this cooling system. 😂

Too complicated. Respect from Việt Nam. We need more video like this.
nice video
Nobody does this if they want the money but the love of the profession
Sorin everyday I waiting for your video
400KΩ again? Excellent, Thank you Sorin!, You can check the screen with the U.V. light reflection without power, U.V. at angle at screen
Awesome stuff. Next time we can use a USB keyboard and check the num lock led. At least we can check the laptop has come on..

The longer the vid the better as far as I'm concerned.
Pentium silver is some low power cpu (N5000 series), like 5-6W, so it does not require a lot of cooling.
but basic cooling not gonna hurt

Great video, a lot to learn! Thank you!
Thank you Mr. Sorin; great job, like always
I expected sorin to say let's take the plate from the broken one and put it on the not broken screen😂, greetings master
Thank you, really great video!

That explains why there is no heat-pipe - lol -.
Good job mate 👏
Sorin why not use a copper tape cut to size. Creating new tracks, as replacement tracks for damage tracks.
Lmao we said that sucks together at 43:51
great Master Sorin
is it somehow possible that invertor/screen/cable malfunction sent 19v or backlight to 3.3 thus causing all damage seen ?

1 hour video, 50 minutes Sorin diving into the cookies can looking for an ic 😂
Sorin how can you know the positive side of board connector pin of ic chip.
the only pins connected together, are the plus and output (ground is on the middle of the chip)
plus he looked at the datasheet
very good job !!!

He said screen had 2 faults not just the backlight and inverter of the other screens are not the same to be switched
I get your point, but they don't need to be the same. The inverter just needs to be compatible.
can i ask what tool you are using checking that current
There was also backlight at 30:00 (a circle in the center of the screen)

Was it 5v buck converter that was burned ?
No, the 3.3v chip.

Pentium silver, low end board, an hour + repair isnt worth it, a used board will be wayyyy cheaper. But appreciate the skills.

but for 3rd world country, even Celeron worth to fix
