@KonstantinosTsirikos-pp6mi I wouldn't say he's trash, but he isn't Clingan, who allowed Castle and other backcourt players the freedom to be uber aggressive playing on the perimeter...UConn currently lacks that .
UConn will be fine. Too many people came into this year not accepting how green this team is. He will settle on his rotations and this team will be FAR better in two months once they get minutes under their belts.
Agreed. Colorado is a different story, they missed a lot of free throws, but ignoring any missed shots, and using the stats without cherry picking, the fact we only lost by 1 point, with the shooting foul disparity, (in both games) while also sucking ass on defense and we ONLY lost by a total of 3 points between these two games is a good sign TO ME. I don’t think we’re out, but I also don’t think we’re going to 3-peat. A run in the tourney? Sure. But not a championship until something drastically changes. Our glaring issues is 1.) PG and 2.) Our 5. Samson is tall, athletic, but not strong and is bad at not drawing fouls. He also can’t catch the ball to save his life. Reed? Great player, strong, but same thing, fouls fouls fouls. We have a clingan sized hole.
Transition year. The big mistake was Hurley yapping about a 3-peat when that is, as we’re seeing, a pipe dream. Best hope is to have a trophy and hope they get better. At No. 2, they’re way way overrated. Time for Hurley to start being a coach again and stop being a celebrity. Also time for the UConn social media rah rahs to stop whining about the other Big East schools’ performances and, maybe, be concerned about the UConn train wreck. Because there’s a lot to be concerned about now. When you charge what they charge for tickets and ask for NIL donations, then you’re a professional team whether you like it or not. With that comes criticism and performance demands from the fans.
Think I responded to you on another channel. There is so much talent this year in college and Auburn looks like an absolute buzzsaw, that reminds me a lot of last years Huskies with their experience, depth and maturity, so saying it's a transition year makes sense, and I salivate at the thought of UConn having a Nowell, Ball, Stewart, Ross, Reed lineup next year (McNeely is a lottery pick right?), but we've just seen too many mediocre regular season UConn teams figure it out in time for the playoffs and go on amazing runs for me to write off this team.
@@BlyGuythis team has to rely on the 3 this year more so then the past with there issues on there inter guard play ain't what it was last 2 years either bench lacking two can't deffened with out fouling which area do you work on 1st
I think they miss Clingan just as much as guard play; imo, seemed like much of their defensive prowess- and ability for transition points- came from that big dude in the middle, lol. Stephon Castle was okay when they played Illinois, but Clingan was clearly the difference maker, and I think that reality would be true in many of their other games last season.
Solo and Liam need to be unleashed. Aidan can’t play defense. Ahmad needs his minutes. Stew and Ross need more minutes too. Missing Clingan has been major because the bigs foul too much.
Mahaney is also a defensive liability. He could cease as PG and be a bench sniper. He will do well in that position. McNeeley is not bad defense-wise but average at best as of now. He can improve.
The problem with both of them not being great defenders is because of that they are fouling much more due to other guys having to switch at last second and pick up their man once they get blown past and it’s putting them in foul trouble and u can’t bench them because they rely on them for offense and the only way u win games in low 70’s is when u have a good defensive team and that they do not and that’s not even going after their guard talent and a big lack of dawgs 0 fight , it’s cool to have expectations but preseason 2# wasn’t fair at all to them , Clingen was a dawg , Newton a dawg , Castle a dawg and they don’t have them and no disrespect didn’t watch the video because these guys are just gonna address the obvious that we have all saw watching them this season .
The Euroball formula only works with a certain mix of pieces that are highly talented and 2 way players. Hurley doesn't have those pieces and so the old formula is not working with this group on both ends. The youth and inexperience complicates this further. So against teams that are talented, athletic and have size UCONN is going to struggle. Point guard has to be their strongest position and it simply isn't right now. The defense is a huge issue right now as well for the reasons previously stated. Hurley will have to tweak the offensive and defensive philosophy with this team. It's nice to have a bunch of high quality shooters but this is negated by the lack of athletisism, size and a dominate point guard.
Im not worried at all. The one thing and person im going to call out which no one has is Alex Karaban. Where the hell was he? This is his team and not a single peep from him in the second half. 6 points is unacceptable from him. All Americans dont do that in big spots. He needs to look in the mirror.
No more Sanogo, Clingan, Andre Jackson Jr, Hawkins, Newton, or Cam Spencer….they’re led by karaban now who is good but was essentially a role player/spot up shooter on the past 2 teams…they pick up up Mahaney and a big from from an 8 win Michigan team out the portal and some people rationalized that they were the 2nd best team in CBB??????? AP is beginning to lose all credibility
You guys almost hit the nail on the head, Hurley can't do what he did nor can he say what he said in those games, you have to be composed as a coach or your team won't be either. The boys lost it and then came back in the second half against Memphis, but not Colorado where they actually never had it. The good thing is they have time to fix the faults like they did 2 years ago when they struggled until the NCAA tournament when they finally got their footing. Question is though, will they? Tuff truth for Dan Hurley is he can't take things personally when calls don't go his way because it's like what Seth Greenberg said, his antics cost the team a win against Memphis when he got his second technical. At some point he'll have to chose what's more important, his temper or coaching.
UConn has 2 good players this year not 5. If Karaban or McNeely have a bad game anyone can beat UConn. They don't have backups if either don't play stellar
Ball has been awesome this year and outside of yesterday, Reed has been outstanding. Last year was an anomaly, mostly driven by the extra covid year. UConn is typically up and down during the reg season, but then figure things out and make a run. If all of the same talking points are still coming up in mid January, then it's time to pack it in, but it's freakin November dude
I am not saying they are not good this year but last year they were unstoppable. Hurley still has the unstoppable mentality when the fact is any team that is good can beat them if one of the 2 stars don't star.

UConn is littered with pro talent. UConn's issues is that they are young and mostly inexperienced, leading to them getting away from the core tenants of UConn basketball. They aren't winning the hustle/physicality battle, a staple of UConn title teams. They are jacking up way too many three's, often contested and early in the shot clock. It's not really there fault. They are competing in the NIL era without football money. Its surprising they have been as good as they have been. It's going to get worse unfortunately.
