This is ridiculous, how are you passing this off as an authentic painting process? The Greeks didn't just paint on top of fired clay. That's dumb. The paint would never have lasted the centuries that it has. To produce the black color, the unfired pottery is painted with slip (liquid clay) that's the same color as the pot, and through a complex, multistage firing process the slip turns black and is vitrified and the clay becomes red.
Painting with black paint on a fired vase is a cheap imitation and the kind of "kitsch" thing that this studio claims not to do.
How do they get away with this.
Although the process shown in the video is not historically accurate, painting on fired clay is definitelly not kitsch (LOL) and it was actually part of the original process. Sure, the figures were made by ferrous oxide, but most of the details were actually painted on top. Painting itself cannot be kisch. Bad painting can, though.

This is a method for making reproduction vases ; not the original method
the ancient greeks made clay slips to decorate their pottery with. yet variations and flaws appear in the pottery vases. the ancient pots where fired in a reduction kiln furnace. no two vases look the same.
This is not the method used by ancient Greeks.

Any advice on how i would create a similar effect on canvas? I really want to be able to paint greek art style on a canvas. i guess i just have to mix colors very well to get the desired effects..?
