And this is the feedback from the project lead after the workshop. 3:39 first tip: clarify my role before the meeting. both in internal and external meetings. the project lead or partner to moderate the discussion. 4:20 as on the content level, you'll also feel struggle to add value. thus, ask the project lead or responsible person: what should the role be or what i can do to add value? 5:20 visibility is the career success. 5:30 second tip: be the numbers guy. when i was a project lead. he was responsible to cover the topics that discussed. 8:10 9:05 when a more senior internal person in the meeting, a more junior may think this is not own responsibility anymore. 9:30 third tip: push for results.
The biggest value add of these videos for me is that the tips are mostly non-obvious. They make perfect sense but they aren’t what immediately came to mind when I read the title, which keeps me coming back. Especially true for point 1 & 2.
I sometimes close my eyes and imagine Heinrich is Arnold Schwarzenegger. btw, Love the frank consulting tips Heinrich. I have tonnes of friends in McK, had a consulting company that competes with McK for a business contract & even hire McK consultants for some gov projects.... and I still learn a lot more about McK from watching Heinrich's vids. Thank you for another helpful business video, Heinrich! Point 1 about clarifying your role is definitely one I can very much relate two. There have been times when following point 2 and 3 (numbers and questions), where I’ve been slammed by a manager for speaking up during a meeting and “making them look unprepared”. Yet other times at another company, where I was criticized for not speaking up. I definitely think expectations will heavily affect how your team mates and leaders will react to those two points though they do have the potential to make you look engaged and prepared.
Clarifying your role is very important as it sets the tone for not only the current meeting but in future follow-up meetings. First impression is very important - great tips!

I am a working student at a consulting firm and only 22 years old. I just had a workshop with the client, a partner and another consultant. Hi, thanks for sharing your experiences. Indeed believe that many juniors feel this way and hard to talk about the reasons as I believe they are quite individual. First, the situation will likely assume once you are more knowledgeable and experienced in the topics. Second, one aspect can also be your voice. HOW you say something can often be much more important than what you actually say. Try to get some voice training if you believe this might be part of the problem, it will for sure be worth it! I tend to just say whatevers on my mind anyway and get told afterwards wow thanks for raising that we were all thinking it but the flipside is that you probably going to be hated by senior management and get labled a trouble maker just because you had the balls to ask a pertinent question. Enlighten me, what if a person has constantly been discredited, throughout the whole firm, how then does one find the necessary path to navigate through important meetings? Knowing very well what out colleagues from different projects view you in all different levels (from the senior s to the juniors, including the boss) of the company.

Starting point should be to understand why exactly this person is constantly being discredited, what is causing this? Hi Ari, at that age the main way to get in is to either directly join at a junior partner level (you will need to have good contacts to be able to create business for the firm right away), or in an expert track if you have very deep industry or functional expertise.
