that wattpad story truly was the start of my 14yo pick me era. literally all of the fanfics were about the 'cool tomboy girl' and she was always the heartthrob of any boy character. thankfully, ive grown to actually be like other girls and also do/wear/eat what i want, like a normal person

I’m actually super hesitant to tell people about my taste in music because I don’t want them to assume I’m trying to be “not like other girls” since I listen to the type of music that they usually brag about listening to. I like a lot of 70’s and 80’s rock and metal bands like Van Halen, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Bon Jovi, Kiss, and my all time favorite artists are Queen and Michael Jackson (as you could probably tell from my username). I don’t like telling people that though since they’re likely to think I’m trying to be like: “I don’t listen to One Direction and Taylor Swift like all the other girls, I like rock music and 80’s music. I was born in the wrong generation.”

I am genuinely not like the other girls.... Or that's what people brainwashed me to believe. I was a 13 year old who liked pink, Barbie and sparkles and My little pony and the other girls in my class at the time were like "you didn't get a period yet, you are secretly a guy" or "do you have a p*nis?" and I tried so hard to fit in with the girls. Did not help that I am literally a skyscraper too. So basically after lockdown, I became this "Not like other girls" and cut my hair into a pixie and happily wore my Tomorrow by together fandom as the group that nobody listens to for a good year. But deep down I knew I wanted to be like the other girls... It took me 2 years of self acceptance to finally realize I only needed my own validation and that I define who I am. And now I proudly say "I'm just a girl who's 6 ft tall 🎀🎀✨✨" Now I'm 19 and thriving. Stay girly girls!

i wore a dress to school and my hair down brushed and pretty. My "Friend" at the time was wearing a plaid shirt and jeans and didn't brush her hair, but she still looked good. I told her she looked nice and she asked me in front of everyone who am I trying to impress with the dress and called me a pic me even though it was literally picture day. I don't think I had an "I'm not like the other girls stage" but I did think Juice Wrld songs made me different I remember singing along in forth grade with my guy friend as fast as we could and then cracking up. I prefer baggy clothes most the time because I'm insecure and my same "Friend" Told me to dress in something tighter, it was two sizes to big only, wtf. I also wore black leggings on my period with a matching black shirt so I didn't look weird and she called me emo. I guess I'm a emo pic me girl that makes me different! 🤪✌
I was going out with this guy who I did not like. My grandma told me "if you really loved him you would not stop talking to him." Well its my life and I am still young to marry. Plus, he was a player which I did not like. My fam members thought this guy was the right one and wanted me to be happy. How would they know if he was the right one even though they are not in my body? They wanted me to give him a chance but I did not like what he did to other people. This guy was nice. but I did not have feelings for him and I was not happy with him. I hate it when people assume that this guy and I were right for each other 🙄 I can't like everyone.
I have a friend (ex friend now because she's toxic af) and OH MY GOD. She's both a "pick me girl" and a "I'm not like the other girls" girl. For example, she hung out with a group of boys from the 8th grade for like a year and like kept putting other girls down so much, especially her old "friends" back from where she moved from. And she still does that to this day. Luckily the boys booted her out of their group lol.
Now she talks so much crap about them to me. And I'm really sure 99% of those talks are just pure BS.

I remember when I was younger we had a talent show every Friday morning and there would be like five groups with five girls or more in each of them. Every single one would choose to sing baby by justin bieber so me and probably most of the school hated him. I never met this man and I still loath him because this happened every Friday. My point is all of these groups of girls really thought that their group was gonna be the only one singing his most popular song that consists of like two words. I wish that the school put a limit on how many times you can play the same song or just stopped doing that because that was so ridiculous. We also were told to clap when people were done preforming. We would never get through all of the kids before school started and these girls were always super early and it's sad that we couldn't see what people with talents that weren't related to the same song could do. So sometimes in trying not to be like someone else you end up doing the same thing as someone else. So be who you want to be not what you think makes you unique.

okay. so when i was in year 4 or so, i had this friend who came from an abusive home (well she said it was, it was an average home) she got presents nearly everyday, free will on devices, and was able to go out by herself at the age of 12, and she said she had no freedom at all. i didnt get any of these things, and im not using this an excuse to insult her, incase thats what your wondering. Well basically because of these things she'd talk to a like 50 year old guidance councillor, at school. keep in mind we were like 10. well after break one day, she came to me and said "i think [guidance councillor] has a crush on me, he's always asking me how im feeling and being super supportive of me." she was blushing while saying this. I couldn't look or talk to her the same after that, and eventually we got distant and now we arent friends anymore because i didnt give her money for a virtual game. i have so many other stories of this girl when she has done similar things like this aswell which is the sad thing. 😭
