The thing about oppidum, you cannot get them to +8/+9 like other civs could with dams and aqueducts but it is so easy to get +4, just a horse tile and a quarry makes it +4. And the fact that you get access to production so early which makes you snowball, I love playing Gaul
I have a love hate with them. They are very fun in the early game, and their man-at-arms rushes are impressive. But I love the district planning aspect of this game (naturally both japans are my favorite civs) and Gual just does not play by the same rules everyone else does. It's natural adjacency bonuses or nothing. Their harbors are especially disappointing.
They are kind of the opposite of Germany who has insane industrial zones which can get to like +15 if you surround them with commercial hubs along with the green districts but they need good planning that takes a while with gaul you can just slap one down with no other infrastructure and easily get +2-6, this is similar to why Korea is so good. Honestly the main benefit of Gaul is that you can spam great engineer points extremely easily and grab all of the OP ones like the wonder building ones or da Vinci to get stupid culture alongside your mines. The Dutch are kind of the midway between this because their IZs are naturally good but can be improved normally (helped by the faster dam building). I mean ultimately arguing who is better is pointless because Steam Age vicky has the totally balanced production bonuses that make everyone else bad in comparison. As you can probably tell i am quite a fan of industrial civs no matter who it is.
I'm an adjacency whore. It really bugs me to put down a district that isn't at least +3 unless it's just super early in the game, and even then it still makes me a little angry inside.
@@anilkarakaya9343 Very true. They need plenty of hills, especially grassland hills, and strategic resources. Luckily, I do believe they have a strategic resource start bias, but even that can go wrong.
I thought you had as many subscribers as MaTN! Your awesome vids pop up as much as his. I moved recently so I can do my part and let a whole new group of people know about your channel. Keep up the good (and very fun) work!!

A Gaul playthrough, yay. I haven't played Gaul yet, but may have to change that soon. I'm an addict for industrial zones and getting them even earlier looks fun. Edit Street finishing the video: Definitely trying Gaul very soon. Haven't done a domination run for a while and the Oppidium rush just looks so fun.
5:00 speaking about never restarting. Ive been trying to play a game as Wu Zetian to learn about spies and of the 4 games where ive played to turn 150-200, ive gotten the worst starts ive ever gotten and it only goes down hill from there. Like ive even dropped down a difficulty to prince and still i always end up with a really bad start and then forever war.
Gaul is my favorite civ. Early industrial zone, culture bombs, and attack bonuses are epic and fun. But it seems like Gaul has a negative food start bias in most of my games so his growth tends to lack for me.
culture bombs are fun, I won two world congresses in a row and enjoyed a side hobby of making all the local city states into 1 hex trading posts as Tokugawa
*looks at start* That doesn't seem so bad, ok there's no freshwater but there's a lovely +4 harb- *the Gaul can't build districts next to their city centres* Oh dear.
I tried this mod and accedently turned on late game ai, real strategy and roman rework, surprisenly game was working and i wasnt seen any bad habits from ai, it was good placed and a lot of districs, a lot of army, huge citystates race, fast religions, all great people were worked by ai, however it made ai very strange at diplomacy. Ghamdi somewhy gave me 42 gold per turn for silk, somewhy ai also selled me his luxuries for 5-7 gold per tirn instead of 2-3🤔, scyphia wasnt stop a war even for 500 gold per turn. There were really surprise wars to me and between them. Mess with all my mods just made ai UNPREDICTABLE AND STRANGE AND I LOVED IT I FELT IN DANGER
1:16 Oh yeah?! I'm sure the poor people of Oinkologne(I think that's the city that Gaul razed a couple series back)! Or was that the game that Rouen was laid to ruin?! I don't know, the point stands whatever city it was!
İt seems that unique districts give +1 great person point of their type rather than the +2 they used to give İf you look at around 11:30 it says +1 great engineer point per turm
The only district that gives +2 is the Royal Navy Dockyard. The Lavra used to also give +2 Great Prophet points, but changed to +1. The Acropolis and the Hansa always gave +1 to their kind.
Mali - go religion - desrt folklore - work Ethic/feed the world/ Jesuit education (any of these work) Bonus point if you are boxed in cuz you can make the dead sea heal your soldier in 1 turn and keep the war machine Rolling. (this is very situational.) @@turtumurtu3295
Ryan, the gaesatae are one of the worst unique units in the game. Because they are "different" rather than being an upgrade. They trade poorly with archers and warriors becauae of costing 1.5 more. Ambiorix ability is the real thing carrying your early game, and gaesatae is bad because the civ would be op otherwise. Compare it to war cart or eagle warrior, you will see.

Shame you spawned by such a peaceful and turtle civ, but very excited for what comes next!! - RomanHoliday
Such a fun mod! Thank you again = )
i hate the no districts next to city centers . .
because i love the city center, harbour, commercial on river triangle
Not even triangle, its bad for any harbor play
I laughed so hard at the kit Kat exposing whilst trying to eat my wispa chocolate bar 😂
Oppidum is a fun word to say
So is Gaesatae.
Love how after it was pointed out that Vesuvius is a replacement for Fuji, Fukuoka's population dropped from 4 to 3.

Thanks so much for watching! Maybe one day = )
It is only a matter of time until the unspeakable "bag city" will appear and it's rise will be glorious.
-17 is a harsh first meet! I also struggle with Gaul so excited to see you dig out of this start
No insta friendships with this one!

The start was totally not huzzah, but I guess this is the sacrifice required by the Civ gods after the previous run :D
Not Huzzah!
I love how you don't dare say "Gaesatae" so just say "unique unit" 😂. Not that I blame you!
I try but it's so many a's and e's!
Gaul is great simply for making a monument every two mines. There, just blew your mind.
You have grown so much Mister Bear naked cant wait till you hit 50k Getting much closer. 🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻
this sounds like it will be fun
Thank you so much! I waited so long to see how you suffer 😊

A bad start can really make a difference I think!
I was just thinking about Gaul, how fortunate.
Gaul is my favorite civ. Early industrial zone, culture bombs, and attack bonuses are epic and fun. But it seems like Gaul has a negative food start bias in most of my games so his growth tends to lack for me.
It’s more that I think he has a mine bias, that ends up resulting in a negative food plane bias.
@@garymcjerry makes sense. But there’s been many cases where I get no hills in my close or middle ring which is where it matters and yet no food lol
Save Ursa Bear from "Crabs"....sure lol
Here we go!!! early bear powers

Playing gaul in a flat area, that's really rough😂
Or is it smooth, as smooth as your starting location
You should banana settle in the bottom right
I wonder if modded great person that gives adjacency from forts works with oppidum 🤔
try the tsl for scythia.
on the big vanilla map.
that is a horrible start.
This is my earliest to catching Ursa's posts.
Sorry I wasn't as early with the reply!
What KitKat are you eating? Chocolatey centre??

Maybe move the Petra city 1 tile west to get an oasis aquaduct?
Why did conquering the city state pushed your other units out of borders?
well, this seems like a bit of bad start. no food, no hills, no good tiles. maybe the dead sea but you got the wrong set up for it.
What is a good dead sea setup. I usually dont get it too often to experiment.

Why the heck did Flare get teleported 1 space south when you captured Ayutthaya
Flare flits between this reality and the next
Is hermetic order best choice for Gaul for at least any adjacency? Or vampires are still only valuable choice for them 🤔
Not a bad classical era at all
Do not restart, said re-start Ryan. 😢

Did you say "chocolatey centre" about a Kitkat?
It's all wafer, isn't it?
Are you a fake snacker!?
I eat so fast I don't know what I'm eating
It makes no sense whatsoever that "Agoge" is increasing the speed of the unit training.
+5 attack/defence? sure.
faster training? nope.
Happy future solar eclipse?
Gaesatae basically just means spearman, and yet it's not a unique spearman.
(edit) And I believe it's pronounced gey-seh-tee

Ursa, are you kind of in my head? I just finished a Magnificent France and a Bullmoose Teddy game and yesterday started a Gaul game.
Have you ever seen your head and me in the same place at the same time? Just saying
