The device encourages you to ask yes/no questions for travel, not conversation. I read on the website that they tested two-way translation but it was not successful. The native speaker usually tried to reply in a long sentence which was not able to be translated, or they were reluctant to speak into the device. Also, if you ask a group... ili won't be able to understand the voices. Overall, it is usually easier to understand a language, especially with gestures, than to speak it fluently. So both speakers might understand keywords and be able to communicate easily. I suppose when this concept will be developed to allow two-way communication.
But it’s only a one way translation you won’t understand the foreigner specifically you would only ask them simple yes or no questions or if you ask for something specific the point to it or something idk
0:20 Now that's kinda stupid observation but you said What's your favourite way to see the city And the translator said What is the best way to see the city 😂
So they can understand you, but you still won't be able to understand them! It NEVER shows the translation of the responses- so you'll still be just as confused.. I think this is a really cool idea, but it needs to be improved so that FULL conversations can be translated. Not just having a one-sided conversation...
Yes, they understand you but how can you understand their reply if it's in Spanish and you don't know how to speak it?!?
