A Refurbished Backdrop for the Heart of The Frick Collection

Since the Frick’s beginnings, the sumptuous green velvet of the West Gallery has provided a perfect backdrop for the paintings and objects on display in the grand room. The fabric-recently rewoven by Prelle, the same French manufactory that made the original in 1914-is being reinstalled as part of our ongoing renovation project. Ian Wardropper, Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Director, and Olivier Lhermite, founder of Couture for Homes, explain the labor-intensive process. When the Frick’s historic buildings reopen, visitors will be able to enjoy one of the museum’s most memorable spaces close to how it looked more than a hundred years ago.
