I don't know what all is going on there, but it actually sounds like a bass and a guitar playing, not an effect. It's like the bass side is slightly delayed to make it sound more like two guys playing. Whatever it is, it's f'ing awesome!
Its due to the bass signal being split between two (well atleast two) speakers. I don't think there's an actual delay effect. It's just a matter of how the sound waves are bouncing out of the speakers

And then he's either turning the bass side off in parts, then kicking it back in to make it sound more real OR the bass side cuts out when he hits the higher notes. I dunno. But it sounds very real to me!

I think the Libertines first album Up the Bracket is groundbreaking. I find Michael Bloomfield to be groundbreaking. The Yardbirds were groundbreaking. Hendrix. So they are a cool band for sure and compared to the shit coming out today they have a bright future I dig them.
