Wow, you are a fantastic model maker, your English is excellent too. I am 62 yrs old and this kit was made the year i was born, i can remember building this when i was 11 yrs old, not to your excellent standard. i built so many model kits when i was a boy and this video just fires me with enthusiasm to do it again. Thank you for a great video

Oi, Alex! Wonderful and very inspirational work. I have this kit since 1973... I was just a child, starting at the hobby, and a friend of my father's helped me with painting and assembling the hull. I did the rigging the best way I could at the time. The kit's ratlines were of a flexible material, a lot more realistic than the hard plastic ones of the later editions, but very hard to install, specially for a 10 years old boy... The kit was proudly displayed for years in my family's living room, until the dust did a complete mess of all the rigging, and many cleaning accidents caused a little Trafalgar in the kit. Then one day I disassembled the masts, and put all the remains in a box. Lately I have looked at them, and concluded that the kit is still buildable, with a bit of scratch to redo the missing parts. It's a project for my retirement... A curious detail is that the painting, handmade using enamels, still looks very good. Abraço daqui de São Paulo!

Back in the mid 60's I put this ship model together. I was10yrs old. The plastic back then was black and I used tester paints and free handed all the painting with a small brush. It didn't come out looking as great as yours did but it looked good enough for a 10yr old boy. I had that ship for yrs but it dissapeared after I got out on my own.
Nice job on ur ship! It reawakened some old memories from over 50 yrs ago. Thanks.

Doing her proud. Have an old 70's Revell USS Constitution I am working my bravery and enthusiasm up for. These builds help. Built one back in the 80's, but this my ex-wife ate it. Not sure. There on a shelf then moved to new house and not anywhere to be found.

Hi Alex, Thank you for posting this video. Your English is indeed only slightly accented, and perfectly understandable. It is not necessary to apologize for it. Your model is terrific. It is definitely a work of art. Your patience is amazing, and it has produced an amazing model. I think that even though this is a model from the 1950's the flash on it is more probably owed to the quality of its original molds. I believe the mold itself wore out over the many times a model was molded from it, rather than the age of the model itself. The plastic over time might have been become warped, but it would not necessarily have produced all the flash you had to cope with removing. The sink marks are another problem. I believe the plastic molding industry just did not have the technology we have now & that's why those sink marks were so large & so needed. Anyway you are to be greatly congratulated for the quality of your model and the video itself. Thank you. --Tom

    Phenomenal skills and great job👍
Friends Father scratch built the HMS Victory in 1975-76 from plans. Ship was sitting on dining room table. 72”x18”x15”, masts exceeded the ceiling height. He cast all cannons himself as well as hand nailed all the hull plating in very thin copper. Every deck detailed with cannons , ropes , gear, it had to have ended up in some museum. He had also completed the USS Constitution in the same scale, we played with one hull that he messed up in some way using the air fix wwII soldiers.

Incredible. This is the most magnificent ship ever created, in my humble opinion. After watching this video I feel I really need to see her in real life. What a beautiful model. Don’t know if I’ve got the patience or steady hand as Alex, but would love to build this thing someday. Thank you so much, such a joy to watch this.

A lovely build of a beautiful ship, I went aboard her years ago, and she was breath taking. To think she was ,I think, thirty plus years old at the battle in 1805, and was in the water until the end of WW2. If you've never visited, I highly recommend you do, when you get chance. Thank you for posting.

Great build. I agree with your "less is better" painting philosophy regarding the dry brushing. I was told by a member of the Model Shipwright's Guild that several coats of very thin paint is always better and I've always found that to be true. Those vintage kits are always a labor of love and can be such a PITA.

Incredible build man. I usually do 1/350 Modern Warships, but my sister (and sort of myself as well now) simply loves these old Ships of the line. It's a bit daunting, but I want to build some of these old ship kits for her to have, but I think I'll start on something more simple first (like the USS Constitution) before tackling the Amazing HMS Victory. But when I do, I'll be sure to use your video as a help guide all the way!!!!

    Brilliant video throughly enjoyed.
I attempted to build this kit in 1976 as a young man, although quite an experienced modeller aircraft 1/72 scale and also a couple of diaromas using Tamiya military vehicles and military personnel.
The Victory defeated me as it did the French LOL.
I hadn't the patience or experience or the use of an airbrush.
My friend your English is perfect and your modelling skills equal.
    Good wishes and happy modelling.
Ps I brought the Tamiya FL 1200 Harley Davidson with my first month's wage at 17yrs of age of 17 in 1979 for £25. I wish as I have priced recently a sealed kit of the same as its around £400 in 2023. Got to get back into the hobby.

I loved your video and your great work. My only nitpick is the string used for the sails is too large in diameter compared to the things around it like the railings and other human-use items. If it was measured against the other things it would be almost two inches in diameter.

I felt a fraud, but won a school modelling competition in 1972 having built the Airfix Victory. Got to admit it was way ahead of the Fairy liquid rocket competition! Only problem it's a huge dust trap unless you can store it under glass.

I really enjoy your workmanship. Thank you for sharing your skills and expertise. I just purchased the 1959 kit and it was still in the plastic bag unopened inside the box. I think it will be a great addition to my inventory when I get it finished. It's amazing how beautiful the molding was in the period that it was manufactured. For me, it is sort of a time capsule. Thank you again.

Thanks for posting this Alex, I'm just about to embark on the same kit so it's very useful to get a preview of the challenges and rewards that lie ahead. I've already cast an eye over all of the flash, ejector pin marks and shrinkage holes. I hope I can make as good a job of it as you have and get the same satisfaction at the end of the build... having made many 'old classics' over the years I also accept that the same frustrations are inevitable. Great idea to pick out details with colored pencils, I'll definitely use that!

Wonderful video. Took me ten years, stop and go to nearly complete the Imai USS Constitution (also released by Monogram). One thing I found that made life easier was to do as much rigging as I could on the masts before gluing to the deck. It saved a lot of shoulder, neck and arm aches. Your a grade A modeler. Thanks!!!

The best video for the revelle Victory so far and though I've sailed such ships in real life, your modifications, which I think are brilliant, are certainly acceptable given the scale. Just a few things I'd change like drilling receptacles with a micro pin drill for the various lines and bracing gear etc. I'm slowly accumulating the literature and information on the Victory and hope to have a go soon. I did try the airfix 1/800 scale about 50 years ago but I can't remember if I ever finished it but the revelle is certainly a good idea to get back into modelling. Can't think of any other model that's more complicated so well done you.

Thank you for this! After visiting The Victory in 2019, I regretted not getting a model when I was there, and so this went on my Christmas list, and hopefully will eat up my January doldrums. I haven't done a model in ugh, has to be almost 30 years, so the warning about the frustration level being worth it is very helpful. I'll know it's not just me being out of practice. I particularly love your dry brushing technique, and will be using it for sure.

As I was born and now live in Plymouth England I opted for the model of the Mayflower, I think about the same scale. I have never liked the plastic sails so either build them with any sails or material ones in the furled (or stowed) position. My favourite was a 1/72 Corvette from the original release by Matchbox. I replaced a lot of the railing etc with solid copper from house hold electrical wire (1 mm).

beautiful work. For the ropes there is a tool coming often with the kit that helps you a lot of making them....like knitting

First off, it's a little late, but thank you for the video. Second, I bought a Victory kit about 7 years ago and barely even opened it. I think you just inspired me to open it up and get to work. Huge fan of this time period. I don't know what took me so long (life, perhaps), but I think I am ready!
    Thanks, again!

    Fantastic work Alex.
    Brilliant and poignant subject too.
Have visited the Victory in her dry dock, many times. Wonderful experience.
I did build the Airfix kit decades ago. Hopefully one day I would like to build the larger Hellier kit.
    Best wishes to you,
    Hugh.

Such an amazing detail for that scale. I learned two tricks from you. Masterly painting too. And the rope detail to cover the holes in the aft castle pure genious. I devoured the video, thanks so much! I specialized myself in this wonderful vessel, at home is my fav model. When I feel his call again, I start building other, and when I end it, I replace the latter that is given as a gift for a good friend. Dont apologize for the lenght of the video, nor for your english that is perfect, even the accent helps in some way to lighten the gross amount of information that you deliver every second. A Bravo for the effort. Had no idea of the existence of this 1959 Trafalgar sesquicentennial commemorative version. Now I'll try to find it anywhere!
