      @@calsium2678 mobile games are notorious for psychologically scamming people. You can look into it if you want I’m not gonna sit here in the TH-cam comment section and write an entire essay to convince you. Trust me when I say I have a lot of experience with this stuff and these mobile games are scams who make bank on people who end up giving away insane amounts of money to pay to be a winner in some thing, which is totally OK, but people who are getting into it are going to be heavily encouraged and incentivized to spend money in micro transactions not only that, but these games are direct copies and clones of all the other ones that are exactly like this and yet it just has a different skin on it so the developer can get away with it. It is a direct scam just as much as the buying of a plot of land in Scotland, become a lord, or lady was a scam.

Does it erase character development on a whim and make its characters do really stupid stuff a lot? Yes. Do I still love every moment of it and have rewatched it multiple times? Also yes. When they announced frozen would be in it (and not the ice queen) and literally used the outfits of elsa and anna in the writing I had to look it up because I was too suspicious that the mouse had his hands in my (albeit terrible) show. Once I had proof, I was done watching 😅😂 like welp the writing is getting just a bit TOO silly for me

    • @ArnLPs
      @ArnLPs ปีที่แล้ว +164

      It was apparent from the start. There is no character named Jiminy in Pinocchio, the dwarfs names are copyrighted, and names such as Ariel, Ursula, Aurora, Melifecent and Jasmin are Disney only (that last one even has a name in the original story, Disney just changed it because it was to foreign).
      The only non Disney Characters in this are Rumpelstilskin (if we ignor that he is the Beast and Crocodile) and Hansel and Gretel (which I guess the Disney Version is just to unknown to have been used).
      As a genuine fan of fairytals I really dislike that, honestly. I grew up with the original stories. If you are looking for a story with a similar premise tho, I suggest picking up the Fables Comics. They are mostly known for the Game adabtation of "The Wolf Among Us".

    • @ArnLPs
      @ArnLPs ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@river3c761 I love Fables and think the fandom is way to small. It's sad how the Wolf among us is all people know about it, and it's a prequel to the original comic.
      It's definitely less for kids than OuaT, and I think more inspired by War Movies. If that interests you check it out, but fair warning the first two books are not really representative of the entire comic run. It really only starts in Book 3.
      My relationship with OuaT was very hateful, because it made very obvious how little people cared and know about these original stories I grew up with. Only caring for the Disney version. While I always watched these, even as a child, as adaptations. Just one version of this story. Everyone else seems to see the Disney movies as the TRUE Versions, and that's just frustrating.

    • @MaidenOfHusbands
      @MaidenOfHusbands ปีที่แล้ว +54

      When they started showing Elsa and Anna and Frozen characters in general, that's when I knew it was owned by Disney and I was like what the fuck is going on. It was so jarring to see Elsa and them anyway simply because their outfits are literally the Disney outfits and not an alternate redesign outfit. Everyone in the show has an alternate outfit and not the actual Disney outfits. In storybrooke and the fantasy world, Snow White, and Aurora, and Mulan, and literally every other princess and prince has alternate redesigned outfits to make up their character and fit the vibe of the show. They don't have the exact outfits made in the movies. So seeing Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff in their Disney outfits is SO freaking weird when seeing them next to Emma and all of them. Even the Evil Queen when she was in storybrooke didn't look that jarring simply because she wasn't wearing her Disney outfit and was wearing an outfit to match the vibe, coloring, and tone of the show

      I was actually really upset by this arc! I’m a huge fan of the original books (Frankenstein, dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, count of monte Cristo, etc) and I felt that they really didn’t utilize them enough!! There were sooo many possibilities they could’ve done with those characters and they just squandered them. :( also not to be *that guy* but I was sooo upset that they took influence from the Frankenstein movie instead of the novel, which really broke the (admittedly flimsy) rule of using book characters. Frankenstein’s creature form the book would’ve made a FANTASTIC villain of the season, especially alongside Hyde! Hell, they could’ve even thrown Dracula into the mix for some variety! Not to mention the phantom of the opera, Dorian gray, the invisible man, so many possibilities!!!!!!!! But I will admit that Jekyll and Hyde from the show were pretty entertaining lol

    This show was absolutely wild. They couldn't decide if they wanted to make a Lost-style character study with supernatural mystery elements, a dark urban fantasy twist on classic Disney movies, or a soap opera, so they just did all three things at the same time and the result was a glorious mess.
    I loved how pretty much every major character introduced turned out to be related to one of the core characters in some way. Peter Pan? Rumpelstiltskin's dad! The Wicked Witch? Regina's sister! Henry's dad? Rumpelstiltskin's son!
    Also loved how there were a handful of actors who were just way too good for the show. Particularly, Robert Carlyle, Giancarlo Esposito, and Sebastian Stan. Sebastian was so good as the Mad Hatter that they planned to give him his own spinoff about Wonderland, but then he got Marvel'd, so they made the spinoff anyway without him and it was kinda bad and got cancelled pretty fast.

    This show was one of the few serialized dramas that I actually got into for a time until I realized that it did what serialized dramas do and just keep going until they are cancelled instead of working towards an actual ending.
    I did really like how they mashed a bunch of different stories at first especially in the earlier seasons when they still had an element of trying to figure out what the twist on the characters story will be.

And I agree with you so much. As a Mythology lover, I couldn't stand their hades. Hades isn't evil and is not a bad person or a the 'bad guy' in any Mythology story, he is actually written and seen as a good guy/neutral don't drag me into drama person.
      Even if their following disney movies, Hercules (as much as I love the movie it is also not actually, thats not even his name!) Hades wasn't really bad guy in that either. He is a god, and one of the big three at that, I don't think the mortal mentality such as Good and Evil, really works with Greek Gods, because if they did Zues is such a worse person. Rumple was terrified of Cora and Pan, but only Zelena could put a leash on him and made him really want to get free from the Dagger. She was a perfect foil to Emma being a prodigy and Regina being the unwanted child. Plus, she had the spotlight since everyone wanted to know her.
    In neverland, nobody really cared about Pan except Rumple. Their focus were on their relationships and finding Henry. And Cora was more of Snow's nemesis while Zelena got on EVERYBODY's nerves and was almost everybody's nemesis in a way.

Ursula and Scar: were actually progressive rulers of their respective kingdoms before their regressive siblings usurped the throne. Gaston: wanted to rescue Belle from a relationship he believed to be toxic. Maleficent: only wanted to be included in social events. Captain Hook: only wanted to be a positive male influence to Peter Pan.

In act two, which is the "No Good Deed" moment of the story, Jafar steals back the lamp and could potentially wish for the kingdom's salvation but Aladdin has managed to convince the whole palace that he's a criminal and a sorcerer. So what does Jafar do: stick to his convictions and be branded a villain to history or return the lamp and let the kingdom fall to ruin? Hook was a lost boy who managed to escape and become an adult and he was only ever trying to save the Lost Boys from Pan. The crocodile was an allegory for death. That’s why it had a clock in it. Hook was an adult now so he was aging and would die soon. That’s why he was so afraid of the crocodile because it represented his death. I’ve never read the original but from those who have this is what I read they said about it.

    Regina’s.
    Her character development and self acceptance was so influential to my childhood and view on femininity. The encompassing themes of selflessness vs selfishness helped me rationalize a lot of my emotions as a young adult.
    While this show slowly became a truly unwatchable clusterfuck of Disney clinches.
    The heart of the story, that everybody deserves a chance to learn from their past. That our actions in the past don’t have to define us in the present. And that accepting our mistakes is the best cure for our resentment.
    Really makes for a beautiful narrative that is rooted in truth.

      Her and Rumple were legit the best characters in the whole show because they had substance. They were three dimensional, they evolved, progressed, relapsed in their bad behaviour; they were actually complex and interesting. The main characters like Snow or Emma or Henry were always "good" and simple and you always knew what they were going to do or how they were gonna act because they were always the same and it felt boring. Regina's and Rumple's arcs felt exciting and interesting and their personalities had so much to offer and their stories so much to teach.

      The show started to have big problems since S3B...despite that,I did like the"Frozen"arc,mostly because Anna,Elsa&Kristoff were all adorable :-3 but yeah...the part of the show that was truly _good_ ended when Emma&Henry left Storybrooke(even if it was already a huge plot hole for Pan to be able to cast the Curse in the 1st place..and I'm sure it wasn't the _only_ plot hole by that point!). The moment Hook went back to Emma and tried to force-kiss her memories out of her everything went downhill and it was only worse and worse after the 2nd Robin Hood came and destroyed his own story falling in love with the Snow White's Queen instead of Maid Marian...who wasn't really Maid Marian in the end,but still...X-PPP #OnceUponaWastedPotential The thing that drives me crazy about this show is that,despite it becoming worse and worse to the point I was *BEGGING* for it to end from one point on, there were _still _*_some_* enjoyable elements in each seasons...even the last one(in that case,Drizella...BTW,HUGE misopportunity not putting HER and Henry together instead of making him go back with Cinderella #2!X-/).

    I was absolutely obsessed with this show when it came out. Unlike you and most other people, I watched all 7 seasons, and yes they were absolutely insane. You didn't even mention Season 7 at all. That was weird, as there's another fairytale realm with a bunch of other versions of characters. Henry gets with another version of Cinderella, who's evil stepmother turns out to be Rapunzel. She's a terrible mother to Drizella who turns out to be the more evil one, which is a clever twist that I actually liked. Also, Alice from Alice in Wonderland is the other Captain Hook's daughter, who is from the Wish Realm, which is not a real place, or is it? The Evil Queen falls in love with Robin Hood, who then dies and is replaced by his daughter Robin Hood, who then falls in love with Alice. Mulan is also a lesbian in love with Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, which tbf is a way better character here than she was in her own film.
    That's not even to mention this show's obsession with redeeming characters - Regina becomes good even as she killed so many people and arguably raped The Huntsman, and ends up being The Good Queen of the United Realms at the end of the show. She becomes like best friends with Emma and Snow later. Rumple flops from good to evil multiple times in the show. Season 7 lets him go to Heaven as his arc in that season is mostly just giving up his immortality to be with Belle, so they can have their happily ever after in Heaven. The Wicked Witch also gets redeemed, and makes up with Regina even though she spent three whole seasons trying to kill her or get revenge on her. That's not even to mention that almost every villain on the show gets a moment of redemption at the end (Cora, Maleficent, Lady Tremaine, Drizella, King Arthur, etc.). When a character wasn't redeemed (Hades, who is one of the most boring characters in the show), it was meant to be a big twist.
    Honestly, I love this show and will continue to rewatch it again and again. Even the Frozen arc, which was actually better than most people give it credit for.

    this show thrived most on it's incredible actors who carried the entire thing. Rumple was always my favorite purely for how campy he was. he nailed everything, and it drove me nuts how often they'd loop around over and over and over again but him and Belle was the best thing about the entire series and the only reason I watched as long as I did, though I think I dropped off around the same time you did. as fun as it could be, it was just fucking *exhausting* and I hated that they never let the characters just have a kind moment. they'd work so hard to earn just the smallest bit of happiness only for it to be immediately ruined by some new issue. them never letting the good things breathe (as well as the massive amount of homophobia in the production) is what killed it for me.

    • @coops9597

    • @Moon-Vixen
      @Moon-Vixen ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@coops9597 a little, I don't remember much detail, but basically it was stuff like the writers' obvious q*eerbaiting, which was even more intense than in other shows of the time like Rizzoli and Isles who was notorious itself for it, as well as them subtly calling lesbians/lesbian fans delusional (essentially, that it was so laughable that they'd make Regina/Emma a thing that the fans wanting to see it become canon must be delusional for thinking so), Snow White's actress calling lesbianism porn (basically someone asked if Regina/Emma became a thing, and she gave some flippant response about them not making "Once Upon A Time In My Pants" aka, lesbianism is inherently adult/pornographic and has no place in ouat) and when the ship got especially big, they started actively undoing all their character and relationsip growth to make Regina and Emma hate each other in order to "dissuade" shippers, as well as forcing men into their lives (the Emma/Hook angle felt especially forced imo) rather suddenly, and then a while later gave everyone a single ep lesbian romance that's never shown again so they could say "see? we gave you dykes some crumbs, stop complaining now", and when we did continue to complain bc that was bullshit and they knew it, they used it as proof that we just can't be satisfied and therefor media shouldn't even bother trying to appease us in the first place, because we cannot be made happy with anything and just want to complain and attack.
      all in all, it was just very subtle but also very obvious homophobia in how they spoke to and treated us.

    • @Shadeadder
      @Shadeadder ปีที่แล้ว

      SwanQueen shippers being delusional about the legitimacy of their ship as always...there's absolutely nothing wrong with shipping the two characters, and some of the cast did make questionable comments about the ship, but the claim that the narrative canonically supported the ship until the writers decided to sabotage it by "forcing in" male love interests is just bananas. The show was constantly retracting character growth for the sake of conflict, it was not an issue specific to Emma and Regina's dynamic. The Hook/Emma slow-burn was arguably one of the objectively better written romances of the show (compared to the other main canon ships, like Snow/Charming which was static and Rumple/Belle which constantly suffered from the aforementioned retracted character growth), so the idea that it was an awkwardly forced last-minute attempt to foil SwanQueen shippers is weird. (I concede that Robin/Regina did feel a bit like an awkward afterthought tho).
      Again, nothing wrong with shipping it. The fandom was full of non-canon serious and crack ships. But SwanQueen fans were NOTORIOUS in the fandom for convincing themselves that the ship was "real" and then getting mad when it inevitably didn't happen. There was nothing in the writing that suggested that the two would ever be romantic (and tbh a lot of it, esp during season 1, seemed like a manifestation of that weird fandom belief that two characters hating each other are signs that they're in love). The writers thought that SwanQueen shippers were delusional for asking if it'd be canon because nothing in their writing suggested it would be.

    • @Moon-Vixen
      @Moon-Vixen ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Shadeadder you've misunderstood me. I didn't say swanqueen was legit and canon until they suddenly changed their mind and destroyed it. I've never believed that ether.
      what it was, was another situation much like naruto, where a homophobic/heterocentric writer, for whom homosexuality doesn't even ever cross their mind, accidentally writes an incredibly homoerotic relationship between two same-sex main characters (often as a core part of ether the characters' stories or as the show's core plot), and when fans notice and bring it to their attention, they will suddenly pivot hard to "fix" their mistake, take a hard left from the plot they intended, fuck up the relationship they created to discourage this "misunderstanding" of their intended narrative, and shoehorn in a hetero romance very quickly and unnaturally to reassert the character's intended heterosexuality. you can even kinda see this in the new Zelda game with Sidon and Link. although their result is decidedly far more broke back mountain than I think even they intended.
      Emma/Hook and Regina/Robin were always forced and unnatural, even to those who didn't ship swanqueen. I myself was never even a big swanqueen shipper, my attention was entirely on Rumpbelle. having grown up on shows like naruto where this happened a lot, I never let myself get invested because I knew better. I'd seen it play out time and time again, and knew it just wasn't worth it. and even if they did do it, it'd be just as much a mess as every other relationship the show had at BEST, and more likely even more of a mess because these two straight men wouldn't know how to write a lesbian relationship any kind of realistically.
      but the forced feeling this had was noticed by the entire fandom. even those who loved Emma/Hook or Regina/Robin and were happy it was canon, were still grumpy about how badly it was done. some even went so far as to be mad at swanqueen shippers for "forcing [the writer's] hand" and not letting it happen naturally as intended. at least until it got better, once they allowed themselves time to breathe and flesh it out, but the timing of their statement and the introduction/destruction of the relationships and how it was handled in the narrative is undeniable. it was obvious then and it's obvious now.
      and no, they said fans were delusional for even asking, because it should have been obvious to fans that the writers were homophobic and would never do that with their main characters. the idea to them was so preposterous that it made hopeful gay fans "delusional" to even think it possible that they would make main characters gay regardless of which characters or what evidence there could have been for it. while you could have made that argument at the time, every subsequent action they made proved otherwise. they barely veiled their homophobia, only just enough to retain a semblance of plausible deniability, but it was obvious. and, unlike now with shows like Avatar Korra paving the way for it, they would have been pioneers of gay media to do that, and it is beyond obvious they would never want to be that.
      and the fact that this is the one thing you can desperately hang onto, in a list of other horrible and hateful things they very clearly did, says everything.
      were many swanqueen fans a little over zealous and fanatic? absolutely. but there is never an excuse to call gay people delusional, ever, but especially over something as silly as a TV show ship. they knew better and so do you.

We had different people join us now and then though out the run of the show but we would be us until the show ultimately came to end.
    I think one of are big things we love was the Ships you can make a whole episode on the shipping wars alone. The Swan Queen(my ship), Captain Swan (my friend ship) group both hating each other throats every episode. And others group just trying to survive the craziness of this show and fandom like Rumbelle or OutlawQueen. Thought it was crazy online me and my friend love watching together.
    The way we discussed it in entirety was this show was a rollercoaster and we were both in it for the ride and thought the show writing could suck some of the of the time (how the did OutlawQueen and Rumbelle dirty or how the reduce Emma Bad assness as the show went on) there was a lot of good writing through out the shows we could get behind(Regina character ark, Regina being seen as a good mother to Henry, the new worlds that get introduced, the crazy ark on SnowCharming, so much more) and we enjoyed and hated it together.
    I just want to say thanks for making this video. It meant so much to me and I love that you brought it back up and I hope people do give the show a try so thank you!

Extremely wild to watch this series as an adult and recognizing EVERY location
    This led Once Upon A Time to be a bit bigger of a deal here, giving it relevance after season 3 where things started getting CRAZY, where I would bet a majority of the American audience dropped the show. There was a day when I was in college where they just happened to be filming and I accidentally met Lucy and didn't know it until a group of girls explained it to me after the fact.
    I don't have strong feelings on UOAT other than hating Disney and having a BLAST plowing through the wiki and just not computing what the hell is happening. So this video is extremely enjoyable, great editing, the memes, made me feel a twinge of anger, which means they did their job.

    I gotta admit, the concept of Red Riding Hood being the wolf sounds pretty cool

    This show was sooooo good. The seasons had their highs and their lows but it was a great little show to watch on ABC...then season 7 happened

      Season 7 is underrated. If it was marketed as a spin-off and not another season of the show I think it would've gone down better.

      @@patrickb125 Dude it was almost a full fledged copy and paste of the first season except only a few of the OG actors came back as the mains and they tried to trick us with different potentially good twist but it ended up being a disappointment. I watched every episode and I just couldn't enjoy it as much as I tried to.

      @@Wonderlandhype I don't think it takes as much from the first season as others say. Older Henry and Ella aren't great, but Regina & Rumple's arcs, plus Wish Hook, Alice and the twist on the Cinderella story are really good imo. Again, if it was marketed as a spin-off I think it would've gone down better. I agree it was pretty stupid to continue the show after most of the main cast left but it really doesn't feel like another season.

      @@patrickb125 I guess but if I had the choice to go back in time. I would've never spent 20 weeks on this season. I even would've watched Once Upon a Time in Wonderland if it continued on.

    Me and my family used to watch this show all the time. We dropped it in the middle of season 6, it got too ridiculous. I’m so happy you’re covering this show
