    I just did mine and was having a good time trying to remove the uppipe on a 2005 fxt you can drop the uppipe though the back dropped right now I untightened the motor mounts still couldn’t get it out til I tried dropping it over the axle and it came right out also for the uppipe bolts get a extension with a breaker bar and pb and you’ll have success for anyone who’s coming to this video i recommend trying it this way you’ll save some good amount of time getting your stuff out !

    Dude, THANK YOU!. I did my 05 years ago and didn't have a single issue. I've been fighting with my 06 for a while. I was getting ready to pull the turbo off until I found your video. 2 motor mounts loose and blamo the stocker is out. Lucky for me I started with the Invidia so no waiting lol.

      I read online removing uppipe can done by only loosening the passenger side mount?? But maybe that's if you go ahead and take the manifold off.

    I used the jack handle over breaker bar method to try and get my lower strut bolts off. Broke the breaker bar. Ended up buying a small torch to get them off. Probably took a month of trial and error to get them off. I guess the upside is I don't sweat any bolt now. My oil pan came with a stripped drain bolt, I had it off in like 10 minutes.
    I'm still digging on your wrap, too. I'm a big world rally blue guy, but grey looks outstanding on a hawkeye! I think all that hard work reeeeally paid off.

    Nice WRX,
    replacing my up pipe on my WRX gc8 haha, it cracked around the flexi part.
    I was advised the ones with flexi joint can burn out easily, others mentioned with flexi pipe it can expand and crack haha.
    I did the same mistake, bought an up pipe similar to the one u had that didnt fit lol
    Btw get a good portable impact gun with the wobbly extensions, imapcts for different sizes, maybe deep impact sockets too, multiple extensions, and it gets all those hard to get exhaust bolts off very easily. I got all my rusted 20 year + old bolts off by pressing a button. Most of the time is spent lining up the impact lol

    Great video, just wanted a heads up on what I was in for. Not too bad. Thanks! 👍🤘
    After doing the job it CAN be done without jacking engine. Up pipe twists and comes through rear towards DP. But I do RECOMMEND changing your rubber turbo drain line ($10). The old one is old and HARD and it easily slips off the turbo after moving it slightly to install up pipe. So make sure yours is still on before fully tightening the up pipe. Or you will have an oil puddle and worse of you don't look for leaks. I did it in 1.5hrs. Not to bad of a job.

    Great video! We both own the same car which is very helpful. I notice that the up pipe on my car wiggled when I removed my headers. Before I continue to dig, I wanted to know if the oem up pipe had a flex point? My flange bolts are tight but the bottom end has play. I really don't think it's rust related. • @CheekyChan
      @CheekyChan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any catless up pipe for your year plus the 2.2K 0.5W resistor mod and you'll be golden. Even if you have to drop the manifold it's not a difficult job and it's worth it in the long run for many reasons, you remove the possibility of the cat coming apart and sending debris into the turbo, same with the EGT bung, the EGT can come apart after years as well so just plug it and do the resistor mod, there is no down side to it, you'll save space, create more power/faster turbo spool, especially if you also throw a good down pipe on it, I recommend a catted down pipe like from COBB so there's less BS to deal with, their high performance cats don't create back pressure so you'll be fine and most smog places if they don't look under the car they won't give a shit as they'll just do an OBD2 test.

  • @cayote1
    @cayote1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey So I have to also change my '05 up pipe. I understand that if the cats get old that particles from the decaying cat can ruin the turbo. My question is did you have to tune after the non cat up pipe install? I hear a tune is expensive. I have an '05 OBXT with a 3"rear cat back AVO Turbo World stainless 3" OEM exhaust just FYI. It sounds beeeautiful. I'm hoping you didn't have to do the tune and would appreciate greatly a reply...THANKS for the jack up tip!!

    • @06wrxdude
      @06wrxdude  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My model year didn’t actually come with a cat in the uppipe. I just upgraded because of an exhaust leak. From the research that I’ve done, it doesn’t look like a tune is required for your year 05.
