I'd completely forgotten why people were obsessed with colabs back in the day, but this is it. It just feels sooo GOOD to watch the two of you banter and laugh with each other, just having a good time 💟 Plus excellent book recommendations!
Ngl when Jack mentioned you on his video, I assumed you guys were just friendly and doing a "collab". But it's so clear that you are actually friends, which we love❤
@@usernullx it's in his second channel jack in the books. It goes something like books my bestie recommended or something. He put up a video of the clips that didn't make in this video too, it's hilarious

When i tell you i haven't ever watched a video longer than 20 mins without taking a break- can't believe this was a 40 min long video and i finished it in one sitting. Probably has to do with the fact that the energy you two exude together is simply immaculate, the way you two are so playful, so yourself around eachother is just wow. Thoroughly enjoyed this and i hope you guys keep making content together often because i absolutely loved this
Our Lady, I am begging you to do a outfit styling video, show us how you style and accessorise, show us your favourite outfit combos and fashion must haves to become Lady Dakota. Thank you so much, pretty pleased considered this. Lots of love, Lily xxxxx
“books that feel like a renissance painting” i interpretted this as a book thats soooo beautiful and also makes you feel something deep inside yourself. I thought of A Little Life
Here from Jack’s channel and I immediately subscribed to Dakota just a few minutes into this video. I was so surprised when it ended because it felt like no time had passed at all, much less almost 40 minutes! I could have watched this forever- fantastic collab!
for the gay story told through letters (apart from of course on earth we're briefly gorgeous), I would say "This is how you lose the time war"! I loved it although be warned the writing is convoluted and ambiguous (in a good way). It's one of those books that's best read with no prior knowledge but it is essentially about two time agents on opposing sides of a space and time war leaving each other letters. Picture Romeo and Juliet but across time in parallel dimensions, written with stunning prose. mwah
This is such a cool video! Also Dakota, you remind me of the actress Mia Wasikowska a little bit! (It makes sense since ppl fan cast her as Camilla from TSH a lot lol) :)
The way I saw the dark academia question on the thumbnail and immediately watched this video to the end (so many great recommendations by the way!!) just to see if you'd recommend The Secret History AND YOU DID ahhhhh you have my heart 😭❤ Subscribed 🤝🏻 Came here from Jack's video of books you recommended to him and I wasn't disappointed (obviously) 😔❤
35:40 i just finished reading if we were villains today, 100% recommended to anyone into DA/thespianism!! coincidentally also ordered the secret history today, so excited to read it :))
Oh my godddd Heaven by Mieko Kawakami hit soo damn hardd for me it was just so close to home especially the thoughts of the main characters. From the self blaming to questioning their existence to imagining themselves outside of their bodies is so ridiculously accurate it made me want to cry because of how well the author described a bullying victim’s mindset. Miss Kawakami knows. She really knows how we feel.
love seeing english people talking about Cortazar !! as an argentinian I felt so proud. and I also recommend to you reading Hopscotch by Julio Cortázar or some short stories by Borges, such great and unhinged authors
I was just waiting for This is How You Lose the Time War!!! It fits both the “beautifully written but you have to reread again” and the “written in letters (preferably gay)” ughhhh its AMAZING
I love Jack and Upstream so much that I knew he'd recommend Upstream before he even did it P. S Dakota you HAVE to make a video on books where writers talk about writing and literature because I can't express well how much I love literature so I need to read people who can :')
for uncomfy but good reading experience / tainted protagonist: i highly recommend “freshwater” by akwaeke emezi! it starts slow but once i understood what’s happening i finished it in one night. i never read anything like it before and i probably never will again. quickly became one of my fave books of all time!
I love this video, it feels like I'm the camera, and it is perfect because sometimes I don't feel like participating I just want to observe and have fun. And yes sometimes this is how I have fun
Just started the video and about the book called 'The Stranger', my biological father died a few years ago (I think, I don't pay attention to time anymore) and in the night my mother came to me distressed. All the tears, all the emotions, crying about my dead father. I'd gotten the impression that she expected me to cry as well but seeing as I personally didn't know the man, aside from the smell of his cologne on an envelope, I felt shocked with no real desire to cry. Well in the beginning I did. That was due to societal expectations but there was no way I was going to cry in front of my mother; so, after she left, tears had formed but I'd stopped myself to question why I was about to cry. I came to the realization that there was no point because I didn't have that emotional connection to him like my mum. So yea,,,i guess there's a story for you guys :)
