us navy have some experience with the captas4 operating in rimpac and other exercise with the chilean T23 frigates also with the uk t23, french and italians fremm and spanish f110. is just the best sonar array in the world suited in the best asw frigates.
This shows the excellence of french sonars...The US would not purchase abroad especially for such sensitive gear if it was not really superior to the one they produce.

Very interesting, Canada was using Variable depth sonar since the 70s. VDS allows sonar to get below thermal layers in the ocean that subs can hide from hull mounted sonar.
Americans sometimes buy french tech it's rare, a long time ago in 1985, french sold the RITA transmission system,Also the Roland 2 missile in the 70s. They also buy European civil helicopters. The EC135, Dauphins, Écureuil or those of Leonardo
Does having two towed sonar arrays including the CAPTAS-4 VDS really better than a having a hull mounted sonar with a single towed sonar array for the Constellation class frigates?

Hull mounted sonar is just for short range
Hopefully the USN is adding this capability to the ESB ships. Either with their carried UAVs or the ship itself.
