    Summary
    1) Avoid high heels, go for mid-heels or flats
    2) Relax silhouettes; less structure
    3) Avoid cheap and nasty Blazers
    4) Don't be a crazy bag lady; make sure your work bag fits everything you intend to bring to the office (including laptop)

    This video is incredible!! As a manager (mid level employee who interacts with the C suite frequently but still a “young one” compared to the rest of the team) I feel awkward dressing in suits and structured blazers that are frequently worn my my bosses who are used to the tight power suits and high heels. I feel like am trying too hard. The Madewell style of suit dressing however feels too relaxed since mine is still a legacy pharmaceutical company. I have been trying to fit in via clothing but not all formulas feel effortless and tread the line between professional, polished, and relaxed / not trying too hard. These tips are so on point and feel like “me”.

      i'm so glad to hear you found this helpful! i've found it much easier to get dressed now that i've got some "rules" to base my outfits around :)

    I'm also a lawyer of similar age and this video is spot on! The desktop computer, stilettos (multiple under my desk) and pencil skirts! Nowadays, you have to achieve that corporate but casual vibe which is so refreshing, but takes so much work!

    I also work in a corporate environment and was shopping for a day/tote bag that could fit my laptop and other work essentials. But I started to change my mind and felt that it's more practical to carry a smaller handbag plus a separate backpack for the laptop (e.g. I don't need to bring the tote bag out to get lunch or coffee during breaks). You make a good point though that it looks more polished to just carry everything in one bag, hmmm... Now I am reconsidering getting a large tote bag again, haha.

      @whatveewore  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      at the end of the day, if you're comfortable, that's all that matters! there are so many different combinations of bags that we could all opt for. I think the overarching theme is just to be more relaxed overall :)

      In a very conservative environment it's important to fit in. Don't overdo it on the casualness because the adage that you dress for your next position still holds true. Test it out on Fridays and go from there...JIMO.

    I agree with what you are saying about the changes in corporate/workwear. I had built up a beautiful collection of blazers, suits, dresses, heels, etc. that I no longer wear as I primarily work from home now. I have given a lot of these pieces away to my niece who will be graduating soon, I have also sold and donated a number of pieces. In addition, I am learning how to reimagine pieces that I don't want to get rid of, such as my collection of blazers and trousers so that they are now being incorporated into an elevated casual look.

    • @whatveewore
      @whatveewore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      great to hear that you've been able to give second life to the pieces through your niece :) I've still hung on to the majority of my blazers and i've incorporated them in more casual looks like yourself, but it's the dresses that are the clincher for me - i have so many and yet don't reach for them as much anymore!

      Surprisingly, those much more causal clothes can affect your outlook. It's important to not be ridiculous to dress up especially at home, but amazing how much a snappy outfit can make you feel more alert. I'm not against relaxation per se, I celebrate it, and think stilettos are an instrument of torture, but be careful to not go to the other extreme. JIMO.

    Hallo! Thank for this lovely video. I'm a manager working into a corporate environment in Italy and I completely agree with you. I bought a sansonite backpack 8 months ago and now my hands are free, I put into the laptop, the lunch, the water, all I need.. my heals are 5 cm to swing the leg znd to be confortable all the day long and I alternate formal coat with jeans or tailored trousers with a jumper. I was worried to loose my style but I'm happy to hear from you the same vision! Continue on this way. ❤

      Yes I just posted about that one above. It's far from crazy lady stuff it's simply efficient and polished. I don't like rummaging around in bags...it's not a good look at all.

    That Celine bag is so gorgeous. Ultimately, I decided against it last year because of your review of best work bags last year. But the Perry tote (almost) fits everything and is lovely. Last two weeks have been rough at work so I’ve been using a huge (non-pretty) backpack and then my purse and lunchbox is separate. I look nuts but my back is happy. Thanks for the tips!

    • @whatveewore
      @whatveewore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the perry tote does fit a lot but i agree, on days when you have to carry a lot, i do switch it out for a backpack so that it's more manageable :) your back comes first, right? x

      @@whatveewore There's nothing wrong with having a small cross body bag with your essentials in it to save rummaging in your backpack or large tote, and for security.
      That said, a large white thick leather bag is so on trend and fresh looking.
      The other thing you don't mention is maintenance which is the first thing when white leather is mentioned....
      Polish your shoes! Wipe down your stuff! Nourish your leather! It's not hard but so many people throw out perfectly good stuff because to them it's worn out.
      A maintenance vlog would work. Honestly many young people have no clue how to look polished or ahem how to polish their shoes,,or fix a button...it looks bad!

    Great tips! 🥰 Luckily my work laptop is small enough to fit into the biggest Celine belt bag, so it´s still on my wishlist😂 I have been looking into ways to dress down my existing pieces, an a recent observation is the trend of longer tailored midi skirts being used more casually 👀 Not sure if I can pull it off though 😅

    • @whatveewore
      @whatveewore  ปีที่แล้ว

      my laptop sadly doesn't fit in my belt bag which is a bit heartbreaking. You on the other hand, if your work laptop fits then you should definitely run out and get it now!!!

    Hey Vee, do you wear a backpack when you wear a blazer to work? I get worried it’ll ruin the shoulder pads due to the weight of my backpack.

    • @whatveewore
      @whatveewore  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep - i sure do! I haven't had an issue with my shoulder pads, i actually think it's better for them as opposed to a tote bag where it was just on the one shoulder? But i guess if just all depends on the weight of your bag :)
