    I bought a Q2 Monochrom a year ago & don’t regret it for a second. I absolutely love it. The b&w images are out of this world & that’s not even the most remarkable thing about it.
    The low light capabilities are insanely good, I cannot overstate it. When I say that, I don’t mean, the grain is usable & filmic, I mean that you’re not going to see grain without being much higher in the ISO range.
    The noise is lower but when it is there, it looks fine & I have not found a situation yet, where I’ve needed a flash. That’s including shooting at night, both inside & out.
    I find that many times, a red filter is necessary because it reduces the light by 3 stops. That allows me to push the ISO up & mimic film stocks like Tri-X.

      I am in the throws of looking, which is always a bad thing. I generally shoot B&W so a Q2M is on the cards... but I'm also looking at a 240. I do love my Q2 so I do not know which way I will swing on this one

    My favorite camera of all time was the Leica M8 until the shutter went kaput. I just hope that the Leica Q doesn’t let me down like the M8 (in terms of mechanical failure).

      well I sold my Q: Have a Q2 these days and a sub 10k shutter M8
      what did you do with the M8? Because they can put a M9 shutter into it these days

      Sold it for parts. This was back in 2011. Wish that was an option back then.

      @@brooklynbound1000 that 100% sucks! My Q was well over 1M shots when I sold it, the only issue what the EVF which I had to replace. You're pretty safe!

    Great video, thanks! I have just bought a Q and I love it. After using then buying an M8 with its 10.8 mp sensor 24 it is an upgrade! I switched for the same reason as you in that the viewfinder was frustrating for my older eyes. My Q is set up for monochrome as a rusted-on Kodak Tri-X black & white photographer and Silver Efex 2 on my Mac I’m a happy camper✌️🇦🇺

    Great video and useful / practical observations and comments. I have the Q2 along with the Sony RX1R and RX1R mkii. I relate to your comment about megapixel difference between the Q and Q2 as I feel the same about the 24MP Sony RX1R and 42MP Sony RX1R. In everyday use, you dont really see any difference and there are other potential challenges once you get to 40MP+ sensors with image size, image processing etc

    If you don't mind saying, how much was the repair bill for the Q viewfinder problem? I'm trying to decide between a Q or a Nikon Zf with a Voightlander lens. Thanks for sharing your experience with them.

      I have no issue talking about that

      Grab total was $600 CDN (inc shipping)

      @@mr_dowsett Thanks. I had heard they were expensive to repair. Sorry you had to do that. They are beautiful cameras and I really enjoyed your non technical video. Hope you enjoy them for a very long time to come.

      @@jerryinsc pls remember that the Q had over 1M shots upon it when I brought it! We're in Quebec and even though the previous owner covered the holes with tape (usual thing to do) he was out shooting in +40/-40 weather!!!
      The camera is a tank and I highly recommend it, I switched to a Q2 PURELY because of the weather sealing as I do shoot in the snow and rain

      @@mr_dowsett Yep, I live on the coast in the Southeastern U.S. and it can be a harsh environment, especially heat and humidity and summers are long so I think anything I get should be weather sealed. Also I like to get out in the rain sometimes to shoot. Thanks for that advice and I will take it under consideration when I buy. Thanks again for your help.

      @@mr_dowsett "Hold that thought"... brilliant on a couple of levels. My Q2 arrives tomorrow. I can't wait. I have been a Nikon guy since the middle ages (I was only "mostly dead" back then). I have always admired Leica from afar and the Q is definately the smart way to enter the brand. Thanks for your contribution!

    Prices have really come down since this was filmed. You can find Q1s in the low to mid $2k and the Q2 in the $3k range. Even the Q2M I’ve seen go $3.5k to $3.75k. Edit: I think he is saying in Canadian.

    • @mr_dowsett
      @mr_dowsett  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's simply the file number on the image which has never been reset from new. You can also pull the shutter count from the dng files

  • @bjmarchives

    But the M8 never had the CCD sensor corrosion issues, it was just the M9s.

    • @mr_dowsett
      @mr_dowsett  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No it had the wonky CCD that you needed to use UV filters for
      The CCD in an M8 will stop working and there is no replacement options anymore

  • @craig_cunha

    Having two Q’s seems redundant. Sell the Q and pick up an M240. Pricing would likely be a wash. You could add a Voigtlander 50mm 1.5 for less than $500 USD used. Then you’d have a nice two camera 28/50 combo.
    Edit: or, if you only shoot 28mm B&W, sell both the Q and Q2 for a Q2 Monochrom (or Q3 version when it inevitably comes out).

    • @mr_dowsett
      @mr_dowsett  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good point!
      My general plan would be to sell the Q and pick up a Q2M; or more likely get the Q2M and sell the Q lol
      The Q is back up at this point; and what the dealer offered me (On the Q) was at best insulting considering it had a new EVF and had just been gone through by Leica Germany for a service but that is life

    • @craig_cunha
      @craig_cunha 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mr_dowsett Best to sell it privately on Kijiji or online at a forum like Fred Miranda. Q’s go for about $2000 to $2500 USD there, depending on condition. Much more than the $1500 CAD you were offered.
      Good luck!

      They are.both amazing cameras. If I didn't live somewhere that snowed I would be happy with a Q
      The only reason for a Q2 is the weather sealing
      Get a Q2 over a Q3, the difference is a bump in resolution and a flip screen
      Unless you're a professional you don't need to chase the numbers
      For me the ultimate is a Q2M as I shoot b&w most of the time

      I see this comment and I guess my point was "here's what I did"
      If I could keep the Q and Q2, which I did for a long time I would. The Q sat for months without use when I got the 2
      If weather sealing isn't a prio; and the Q has lived through Quebec winters for its entire life then it's totally fine (tape up the holes)
      If you're worried by a Q2
      I had the chance to upgrade so I did. Sold the Q to pay for the M8
      You won't really see a difference in the images
      So base line: what's your budget?
      Q; cheaper batteries by far
      Q2: weather sealing and a slight bump is rez
