As a Gambian who has been living in the U.S for 6 yrs because of Uni, my homeland has been calling me for 4 yrs now but I get a lot of opposition from family and friends. I got told to be grateful and that others want to come here. Not that I am not grateful because everything is Qadr of Allah, But I just want to go back and just study the Quran. I am happy for you. True, a lot of Gambian see abroad as heaven; mostly because of poverty and for some because of the flashy lifestyle. I always tell them that the west is not a place for the Muslims but they don't understand where I am coming from.

When mihajireen migrated from Macca to Al Medina the first thing they established a masjid. Gambia is already a land of Muslims , aren’t there any mosques you can pray? I made hijra to Algeria several year ago and masjids are numerous here and new mosques are being built but at fajr are mostly empty except for the first two or three lines.

I'm Somali, living in America. My dad already left after he got approved for his retirement. He's in Kenya. I'm not sure about Kenya but that's the only place where i got connection too. Pray istikhārah, plan the move and then come, you wouldn't be the first, there have been some who made Hijra here and they were living off their retirement money. In any case, if you have the ability to invest your money to generate some more income whilst you're here then this is best!
May Allāh rectify their shortcomings, the lay people here have a lot of ignorance and may deep rooted customs but one thing for sure is that they are stubborn once you advice them. As for comparing it to a non-Muslim land then thats a bit far, the non-Muslim lands are definitely worse!

I lived in Gambia for several years and was even married there and while I enjoyed my time, I realise that the Gambia definitely isn’t perfect and there is a lot of corruption and dark forces (black magic and marabouts) to deal with there. My overall message is to approach things with open eyes and be aware.
You have misunderstood some fundamental points. Tell me, how often do you fly to England to see doctors or to get money and come back? I live in Morocco, and it is very difficult for me to tell the young people in their difficult and hopeless situations what you are saying. And tell me, do you live in the same difficult situation, or have you been able to afford something nice for yourself and your family with British pounds? Please be a bit more cautious because we know how we would feel if we were in that situation.
