***** I used to love this movie. I was just singing the song and my kids were looking at me strangely. I had to prove to them I wasn't making it up. lol
seriously one of the funnest movies ever made. Disney used to make such good movies in the 50's and 60's. I was born in the late 80's, but even to me its obvious Disney went in a bit of a downward spiral with its imagination for good movies. Lots of good old movies to watch though like the Swiss Family Robinson, the Love Bug, Snowball Express, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, the Apple Dumpling Gang, and Million Dollar Duck. Other fun classics that might not be Disney, but i think are great films: Quiet Man, Ghost and Mr. Chicken, and Father Goose. Father Goose is the funniest movie ever made in my opinion.
I used to record that music/that group of background sound effects on audio tape and use it for Halloween music. The part where he is trying to get the banshee to go away. My friend even said the "Keep away!" part would work too and would make it sound more scary.
I loved this movie as a very small child, though I didn't fully grasp the entire plot at that time. But my mother fell in love with this song and would sometimes hum it as she did her housework, so I recalled the tune -- at least her interpretation of it. Then, about a year ago, I was able to watch it again, on DVD, and it brought back delightful childhood memories. Now I'm working on whistling the chorus of this tune often enough that my cockatiel, who loves new music, might give it a try :)
I am just heartbroken to hear about Sean Connery passing this morning but I will tell you every year I watch this movie and I've grown up with his movies but I always come back to Darby O'Gill they all be blessed
This was my favourite movie to watch with my nanny when she was alive now I watch it with me two small children love this movie best movie out there ❤❤️
I just watched this Movie with my Mom, it was amazing to see Sean Connery that young as well as listening to him sing. The special effects were amazing. It is now one of my favourite old movies.
one of my favorite st patrick traditions each year, along with happiest millionaire and the gnomemobile (and also the three lives of thomasina even though it s scotland)
my first full length movie with my dad. Scared the heck out of me but I'll always remember it. Perhaps I should see it again as an adult and enjoy it this time. lol
I remember seeing this as a young teenager and falling in love with Janet Munro. Such a tragedy that she dies at such an early age. Thanks very much for the upload
So I watched this with my dad during Sunday and during the opening I screamed when I saw Sean Connery's name and like "WHHHHAAATTTT??? PPPAAAPPPAA!!!" Cause seriously, we know that guy as James BOND! Actually, we had fun watching it.
It is Connery. I spent weeks researching this, but it's definitely him and Munro on the soundtrack. Brendan O'Dowda, often credited for this, was a tenor who sounds nothing like Connery. Sean and Janet also sang on a single released in 1959 the UK by Top Rank (catalog number JAR 163).
Yeah, any Connery-fan can tell it's him. Or should be able to anyway. He also sings a few lines of 'Underneath the Mango Tree' in 'Dr. No', which was filmed not long after 'Darby O'Gill'.

When the geese are full of blarney and the thrush is singing Gaelic... I'm sorry, I just can't seem to stop laughing now. 😉 (rolling on floor laughing) You know what they say. All God's creatures got a place in the choir. ^______^ Which is also on TH-cam. ^____^ Some just clap their hands, or paws, or anything they got now. ^_____^
I always liked this song and Irish women always seem to have a lot of fire/passion. I like to sing this song because it's fairly easy and quite catchy. It also lifts my spirits.
I used to sing this to my girls when they were little. I tried singing it to my youngest daughter recently but she didn't appreciate it. She's 37 now. I heard her husband singing it to her a few days ago and she didn't appreciate that either. 😊
I saw this movie in the 1980s. I'm sure I still have a VHS copy somewhere. The actress was so beautiful. In the early 1970s, little kids at school went through this stage of claiming to be Irish. ..even though none of us were. I don't know why. Maybe they had seen this movie. We lived in Los Angeles back then.😊
@JudyGarland38 I do as well, I will always treasure these well aged but beautiful classics. I grew up loving this film along with Swiss Family Robinson but I haven't heard of Third Man on the Mountain. I'll have to go digging around and watch it. Thanks!
It makes me sad that so many of these people are dead now. I loved this movie. When I was little the spooky part of the horse, and the banshee scared me to death.
It breaks my heart that not many people know about this movie. ♥
I know right

My granddad used sing this to me when I was little.
In memory of Sir Sean Connery. 1930-2020

Lyrics
Have you ever seen the seagulls
A-flyin' o'er the heather
Or the crimson sails on Galway Bay
The fishermen unfurl
Oh, the earth is filled with beauty
And its gathered all together
In the form and face and dainty grace
Of a pretty Irish girl
Oh, she's my dear, my darlin' one
Her eyes so sparklin' full of fun
No other, no other
Can match the likes of her
She's my dear, my darlin' one
My smilin' and beguilin' one
I love the ground she walks upon
My pretty Irish girl
Have you ever seen the morning in
Kerry and Killarny
When the dew is on the hayrick
And ev'ry drop a pearl
When the geese are full of blarney
And the thrush is singing Gaelic
And standing in the doorway
Is a Pretty Irish Girl
Oh, she's my dear, my darlin' one
Her eyes so sparklin' full of fun
No other, no other
Can match the likes of her
She's my dear my darlin' one
My smilin' and beguilin' one
I love the ground she walks upon
My pretty Irish girl
When I'm parted from my darlin'
My sighs would sail a schooner
And when I cannot reach her, sure
My tears would turn a mill
Since she cannot be unkind
To any helpless creature
I think that I will marry me
A pretty Irish Girl
Oh, she's my dear, my darlin' one
Her eyes so sparklin' full of fun
No other, no other
Can match the likes of her
She's my dear my darlin' one
My smilin' and beguilin' one
I love the ground she walks upon
My pretty Irish girl

Wim Grundy I'm pretty sure that an Irish thrush would be singing gaily... as opposed to Gaelic ;-)
THANK YOU
I'm pretty sure I heard the song say "gaily" too.
When the thrush is singing Gaelic????? ^____^
My goodness. That sure is one talented thrush!!!!! 😉😜😘
On the other hand. The geese having all that blarney in their beaks is pretty unusual too. ^___^
When the geese are full of blarney and the thrush is singing Gaelic...
I'm sorry, I just can't seem to stop laughing now. 😉
(rolling on floor laughing)
You know what they say.
All God's creatures got a place in the choir. ^______^
Which is also on TH-cam. ^____^
Some just clap their hands, or paws, or anything they got now. ^_____^
