In this video I show you how to play Eddie Van Halen's blazing solo in Take Your Whiskey Home from a performance at Pasadena High School in 1975. It's an amazing show and you can find it on TH-cam. I'm not gonna lie; this one isn't easy, but it's packed with Ed's signature phrases. It also still sounds good if you play it at a slower tempo.

You’re tone is perfect. What’s the set up for your Marshall?

Hey-thanks! I have the Marshall's volume at 7. I boost the front-end with an Ibanez Boost (BTMINI). I think that guitar sounds good for the early Ed stuff because it has a 1-piece maple neck and the pickup isn't particularly overwound or dark.

I'm using 9-42 strings. There's a 2-step bend with your index finger in this one, so heavier strings could make that tough.
