Brilliant from Starkey as always. Cuts through all the noise and rubbish and gets right to the heart of the matter. I’d say the vast majority of sensible and mature people agree with him but from watching a lot of the coverage you’d think the views of that women represented the majority. The fact she can seriously call herself an ‘academic’ is evidence of the extent of the decline in this country.

Dr Starkey is spot on. The police need radical reformation to return them to their actual purpose. Recruit more officers if needs be. Arm them. But put them out there on patrol - with a mission to crack down on any and every kind of criminal behaviour. BTW It may very well be the case that a lot of the burglaries and muggings are the work of gangs of extremely prolific repeat offenders. So if these gangs could be targeted (infiltrated where appropriate) and shut down, that alone would probably make the number of these offences drop dramatically.

I moved from England to the US many years ago and one of the best things about American law is that you can defend your home, with deadly force if needed. Try as they mite the Liberals have not been able to water this down. Britain is a "Nanny State" were the police are supposed to protect you, by law you can be charged as a criminal for defending yourself and your family. The problem with that is the police are never ever there when needed, so in effect you are defenseless and at the mercy of criminals. Sure they may catch your murderer, but thats not doing you any good.

The McPherson enquiry - I was a white police officer living and working in Brixton with a black wife and a mixed race child and Macpherson tried to tell me that we had a canteen culture that was racist! Our Inspector was a black British Barbadian and we had the "front line" (Railton Road etc) under control.
The findings of the enquiry were reached before it began and Tony Blair was to blame ; constructing it - like the Iraq dodgy dossier - to whip the police he despised. There never was any truth in it. Shameful. But these people have no shame or remorse.

It's virtually impossible to stop all criminals from importing them and what happened to that poor girl is an absolute tragedy, but also a rare occurrence. For a historian, Starkey seems to have little understanding of what is the essential principle of policing, as established in 1829, that the ‘police are the public and the public are the police’. Hence community policing is at the core of the British Police model. There are, in fact, nine principles that the British service is based on, wrongly known as the Peelian Principles, as they were established as the standing borders by the first two joint Commissioners of the Metropolitan Police. Starkey further misrepresents the Classical social contract from the 17th/18th Century. Starkey has become a Far Right revisionist!

I'd like to have seen a graph depicting the rise of knife crime overlaid with the loss of Community Police Officers to see if there was any correlation, rather than just hear Starkey's opinions. The fact is that, due to the loss of many thousands of officers over the last decade, the Police Force is a reactive, rather than a pro active force nowadays.

I dearly hope that when Liz Truss enters No.10 she call on Dr Starkey to give her a thorough run through of facts and what he knows should be done to reverse this total tragedy of, and breakdown of the system.

England need to do away with the edc (every day carry). As a collector of knives I’m happy to go to a shop and get what I’m interested in and prove who I am. To many shops hand over some really big knives to anyone above 18yrs and over.
