Mario Kart DS: 32 track All Cup Tour speedrun in 52:56:485 (IGT) (MKDS 10th anniversary special)

Well, 2004 was the year Nintendo DS first came out,
2005 was the year Mario Kart DS first came out and it was a huge milestone for the franchise.
November 14th 2005 in America
November 17th 2005 in Australia
November 25th 2005 in Europe/UK
December 8th 2005 in Japan
This speed run aims to complete all 32 courses at 150cc as fast as possible, despite RNG being a notable factor when it comes to unavoidable attack situations including:
Red Shell (when not holding shell/banana)
Blue Shell (when there is no good opportunity to mini-turbo)
Lightning (when you do not have a star, lol)
As of 2015 this is the last MK game to use manual mini-turbo as some of the karts gained a huge and unfair advantage over others.
The run was done on an original DS to keep it as pure to the original system as possible. Playing this on Wii U VC saves roughly 1.5 minutes in real time due to shorter loading delays after hitting "Next Course". Aiming for purely in-game time negates any difference but it requires looking back at your previous run and analysing the clip frame by frame to get the exact in-game time for all 32 levels.
Real time for this run is just under 1 hour

Sure it does feel rough after 1 derust attempt getting back into the game but after a good amount of practice and completing this run, it's not so bad.

You *can* dodge blue shells with mushrooms, it's much easier (but you have to time it right). I did dodge a blue shell by drifting, but only once.

They do hurt the first time executing a run. Give your hands a break and try it again a day or 2 later.

I remember back in October 2005 when I was 9, going to EB Games inside a mall, and I found the demo version of Mario Kart DS sitting in there, and I played it and enjoyed it! I was so excited for it but my parents said I had to wait until I finish 4th grade though, but it payed off, and in May 2006 after the school year was over, my parents surprised me with a DS and a Mario Kart DS! as you can see it's still here to this day, the only difference is that before the DS Lite came out it used to have the original DS on the page. I honestly believe that for a handheld device, Mario Kart DS was definitely the best of all time. The upgrade from Mario Kart Double Dash on a console to Mario Kart DS on a handheld device in a 2 year span was HUGE. Having the ability to play wifi for the first time on Nintendo Wifi Connection, painting your avatar picture anyway you want to, the single player experience was epic because of Mission Mode!, the snaking/PRB technique was awesome love it or hate it, and the best of all, the addition of RETRO courses along with the new courses already in the game. I have respect for Mario Kart Wii, 7, and 8, but you could go back and play Mario Kart DS and it still has its own original feel to this day, almost like Mario Kart DS has aged the best out of all the classic Mario Kart games. Maybe it's because of the Mission Mode, Retro Courses, VS mode, battle mode, etc. combined into one game which makes the single player experience epic? Maybe it's the snaking technique! Anyone remembers the BOO item, like I haven't seen that in any other Mario Kart ever since. I have so many fun memories of playing Mario Kart DS from 2006-2008, and it had a huge impact on my late childhood!

The bad thing about this is when your playing actual cups you also get ranked on the amount of time off-road but when I play with dry bones and the dry bomber you can drive off-road like no big deal and end up getting ranks B, C. At least this game dosnt require getting stars, just getting first which in itself is easy enough.

If you only gently rock the D Pad and other keys though, its a lot less strenuous and fluid though. It's also quote rhythmic anyway, so you don't have to think about the pressing of the keys too much

Left-hand Animations yes, definitely. It’s so much harder to dodge them because they come around the side! I think it makes the game that bit harder and better

I'm going to assume you haven't played Mario Kart DS here
So when you start a drift (press R), the game doesn't advance your miniturbo on a timer, it advances your miniturbo on the amount of times you alternate left and right on the D-Pad. Don't worry, you don't have to do it like 6 times for it to happen. It's once (left then right) for the blue sparks (don't release here, as that will do nothing) and another time for the orange sparks. This is when you can release your miniturbo and get the boost.
As for how he's doing it so fast, go into figure 8 circuit. It is the best fucking track to practice on due to a wide road and long straightaways. So go onto a straightaway and start a miniturbo. Once you've completed a miniturbo, do one but in the opposite direction. Repeat this until you're at the end of the straightaway. Congratulations, you have done snaking. Keep practicing and you can find out you can snake on a lot of tracks (there is a limit though, you can't snake on rainbow road or most of DK Pass)
As for what Kart to do, he outlines the 4 main ones in the video, though you could snake with a good amount of the karts, the main 4 are the best at it though. Those are the Egg 1, Poltergust 4000, Dry Bomber, and ROB-BLS.
The Egg 1 is probably the easiest to use due to decent speed, great acceleration and handling, and poor drift. The poltergust 4000 is another option though it does have noticeably shorter miniturbo but it is quite a bit faster than the Egg 1. The Dry Bomber is basically all acceleration and handling and not much else. It's speed is one of the worst in the game but its miniturbo is the equivalent of a mushroom. The ROB-BLS is probably the hardest to use having the worst miniturbo out of the main 4 but is the fastest Kart in the game. It's hard to use but I believe it pays out the most.

@@arturon4084 You need the speed of a mushroom (Which the egg card gives during drift) and you jump to the side. It's a legitimate way to dodge all blue shells in this game.

Mario Kart Ds is my most favorite Mk game to date, 2nd Would be MkWii, 3rd Would be Mk7. Mk7 is special because it's similar to both Mkds and Mkwii at the same time. Some tracks, like toad's circuit, remind me of figure 8 AND Luigi Circuit at the same time.

The DS version of N64 Choco Mountain isn't broken, I even looked up at the WR times for that level and there isn't a WR for a glitched run.
