    Hey guys, I would like to say thank you for the content. I just started hunting this year and all the advice from your videos helped me achieve success three weeks after bow opener. He was a young 4 point buck but still put meat in the freezer. I just turned 32 and didn't have a hunting mentor growing up. I had to learn everything from the internet and my own trial and error. THANK YOU!

      In the same boat brother, I’m 29 and this year will be my first season. Joe Rentmeester, and Dan are my favorite hunters. I pre-ordered some Latitude outdoors sticks, and waiting on a beast stand to be available… Going to practice shimmy in up trees all summer. I’ve been shooting a nice bear bow for a few years now, and it’s dialed in. Always enjoyed archery.

    I have been hunting up there snice I have been 15 years old and like Dan says its a hard nut to crack. I have been able to take an 8 point like the legendary guy has 6 times and only lost 1. I have found the best way to hunt up there is to still hunt or get on a buck track in the snow and have some fun. Hope you guys go back next year so we can see how you adapt to the challenge you had this year. Thanks for all the great content, I really enjoyed watching you guys trudge the same stuff I try to kill a buck in each year. Just got back from setting up my 80 year old dads blind and its in a sweet spot. Their are some big ones up there and I have seen them. Good luck on the rest of the season boys!

    At least you found a oak dropping. There is 0 oaks dropping near me. Maybe one in a honey hole some where I don't know about but I have been In most of the land around here and I haven't seen any. I did find a random pear tree in a thick thick thicket in September. I couldn't mark it on my phone though unfortunately it wasn't cooperating. I have been afraid to look for it again. Maybe soon if my other spots don't work out.

    Lifetime Michigander here, in my area the hunting has become very difficult. A nearby corporate pork farm has decimated the population with crop damage permits for many years. I used to see a lot of deer, those were the good old days I guess.

    One question I have that contradicts what I’ve heard elsewhere is watching you guys feel the rubs for sap and stickiness….seems wise, except other hunters and material says not to touch rubs as not to leave scent or your oil on the rub that they may use again? Thoughts? Is it because you plan on being there once and done?

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1st... In our opinion, if a deer comes thru and smells you touched the rub, it also smells you walked there and stood there, so just being there adds scent and there is no magic potion or secret suit thats going to remove that scent. No difference in scent from you ior from you touching the rub. Second point. We realize deer are going to pass thru and smell we have been there and likely will alter plans so we hunt it right away before the buck comes back and if he walks up to the rub, ive already had the chance to kill him.

    • @brianoimoen5627
      @brianoimoen5627 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How hard is it to get a elk tag for that area

    • @decaturridgebees8761
      @decaturridgebees8761 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very hard. They only allot 250-400 tags a year depending on the herd numbers. They don’t want a very large herd it seems. Safe to say, if you get a tag you’re a lucky man/woman

    • @kylemurray7086
      @kylemurray7086 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s a once in a lifetime tag, if you draw it you can’t ever draw one again..

    • @lloydhemstreet3226
      @lloydhemstreet3226 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love this channel but how are you going to kill a mature buck in Michigan when you hunting that close to the access? Idk but if I see sign like you were showing and it's that close to the road & access it is usually made after legal before a buck is going to be hitting that, scouting sign and teaching that is great but this is a bit confusing, respect 🙌

      @beforetheecho 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really still went in deep every hunt just scouting with my stand on back.

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The spot where we hunted next to the logging road was not accessed by hardly anyone. We had to drive thru deep water to get back there and the trails were leading towards a swamp with assumed bedding points less than 200 yards away. Many of the areas we looked at had beg bucks bedding right next to roads. Matter of fact, a friend took pictures of a real nice buck eating acorns along the main road thru the public forest an hour before dark when we got up there. I tend to hunt them where ever they live and not worry about where people perceive they live. Some of my biggest bucks were taken near roads and parking lots.

    • @ML-ks2lj
      @ML-ks2lj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I don't know man I have seen them right on the road. I'm hunting 100 yards off the road and I believe he's using the trail for scent checking bedding and he used the open timber by he road to see as he navigates the transition. I have seen these buck and there's one mature buck I have my eyes on right now. Just gotta.catch him slipping. And I do t use trail cameras I use non intrusive observation tactics.

    Man the guy that found the shed should of backed off in my opinion and hunted that spot. Older bucks tend to leave less sign so I wouldn't be surprised after find that shed that the buck was mature this year and is leaving less sign I like to hang licking branches in those areas and observe them for a few days from as far away as I can and still visibly see it with binos. No trail cams for me right now to many thieves out there and mine has a red light that I dont like

    • @beforetheecho
