I'm so glad that my cousin was (still is) a part of Roll Deep and moved Dark Garage into Grime. East London MC's were lyrically better than other parts of London because they use to emcee to Drum & Bass. Everybody knows that Drum & Bass has a tempo from 160 bpm to 184 bpm. If Heartless didn't clash Pay As U Go at Destinys that night, we wouldn't of heard certain choons like Pulse X on Radio with them slewing Heartless for that special set.
tbf, wiley/roll deep and your cousin pushed dark garage into eski beat...it was the London as a collective that formed grime together with east London as the head.
Eski Beat was just a style of Dark Garage and it is only now we've established that there was four styles of Dark Garage music before Grime became a staple sound of the Underground (at that time). Wiley did come up with the term "Grimey Garage" and created his own style of darker Garage music. People do forget that different parts of England also helped to create Grime. A good example is DJ Narrows who's originally from Reading.
don't forget sublow, that came way before eski beat and was the staple of dark garage, sublow invented by jon e cash, black ops crew dread d...east London was where the mcs were at, west man were making hard gritty sublow beats.
I could never forget about Sublow, hence why it is one of the main four style of Dark Garage. Sublow was the name of Dark Garage for awhile before Eski Beat was also on the shelves. There's a big interview with Black Ops talking about the scene around the time. Musical Mob are another important collective during the Dark Garage to Grime years.
