Caprica was too good to survive TV managers.
The acting in some places was poor....and things got stretched too far....some tacky parts...but an interesting concept though!
This show was really great. Too bad the average Sci-Fi Channel viewer didn't want to stay focus and sit through an hour of space/sci-fi drama. They wanted the First Cylon War and battlestars and vipers, and big explosions. Not themes that revolved around racism, discrimination, family drama, and first world problems on the Twelve Worlds. Would have loved to see more of the other Colonies like Virgon, Canceron, Aquaria, Scorpia.
I feel like the show may do better if it had come out today. But it also feels like the average viewer doesn't even remember BSG or how it was GoT levels of popular in its heyday
I still watch it sometimes just to relive it

I'm not a huge Syfy fan, besides Warehouse 13 and Alice but my mom watches this show and I'm in love with the theme song.

I loved McCreary's description of where he wants to take the music. Basically the polar opposite of the BSG where as the series went on it went from just the drums to the amazing layered and orchestra level music we heard in "Daybreak". He is starting out Caprica with the rich orchestral score and will have it devolve into the drums. With the final episode of Caprica echoing much of the same style in "33".
The theme is there. Bear McCreary mentioned it on his blog. He was hoping some BSG fans would notice it if they were paying attention to the music. I noticed it the first time I watched it too. I was like oooh cool!

I did notice the Adama theme run through at that scene. Very nice scene between Joseph and young William. What I meant by distant is that Caprica is a different show than Galactica. That's how the creators wanted it to be. So in turn, the music is a very different kind of music. But the little addition of the Adama theme was good to hear. It shows that the two shows obviously are apart of the same universe.
As a big BSg fan I thought this series was average on first watch,
A few years later I find this series to be very good and at least deserving of a few seasons more

What's awesome is when you rewatch BSG (mostly the end of season 3), and any time they mention Joseph Adama, you can really picture him, and it matches perfectly.
I do miss this show. Wish they would have given it another season, I wanted to see where the writers would take it.
And blood an chrome? I know, everyone wants space battles, but a show that is just space battles? What could they do that would even be half as awesome as Exodus part 2? And that took a lot of story build up.

this music ensnares and captivates the listener. to imagine the events 58 years before the cylon wars and the battlestar galactica are amazing. i hope that this show is good.
So sad, I tend to think of the Colonials like children finding their father's gun, and not realizing what they possess, until it is too late. Moore/McCreary, it just doesn't get any better.

@ScienceFictionJunky I definitely think there will by a First Cylon War series! Looking forward to it when they get around to such a project. In the meantime, I am happy with Caprica.

Bear McCreary posted this track on his blog. It's like a medley of most of the themes in the movie that he used. He already said that it's not the complete soundtrack.

This explains how the Cylons obtained their monotheist beliefs, too. It's got drama, but more character - driven drama than gadget - or - space - battle - driven drama.

Actually they were from Kobol, the original humans created Cylons, which turned human and needed Resurrection to survive, eventually they managed to figure out how to breed naturally, and they got rid of it, than they created their own robots, and they didn't want to start the cycle over, so they brought resurrection back, but it only saved 5 of them in time (the final 5 from BSG) and those 5 gave resurrection the Cylons in the colonies and thus the cycle played out one last time

To me it has the beginnings of the "Passacaglia" track... the classical string track played in the Opera House on BSG.
I'm wondering if we'll end up seeing how the Cylons 'rebelled' against their creators... and how they are used as presumably soldiers to battle other humans of other colonies... which would mean... big war themes are to come.
what i find amazing about caprica is how everything that we know about the cylons in battlestar galactica match up in caprica as well, the entire time im watching this im like : " HUUUM SO THATS HOW IT ALL BEGAN AN, IT MAKES SENSE!!"

@JulyForToday Im with you on this! Too many people bitch and moan about sci-fi today because stuff isn't blowing-up. Now these so-called fans are nothing but critics and one by one they gave up watching. Because of them 99% of sci-fi on American television is gone. I no longer trust any sci-fi show will make it past it's first season. I'll pray to the gods for BSG: Blood & Chrome. -CAPRICA FOREVER-

... and this is actually interesting because it involves the creation of the cylons and their motivations. The drama you could find practically anywhere else.

Love Caprica and BSG so very much. Maybe I'm alone in this, but Alessandra Torresani is like the epitome of beauty to me. I'm not exactly sure why, but there's just some allure/mysytique about her that's diserable. Maybe its that Old World beauty she's got going on. Idk. lol
Something like that would be cool. Though I wish the original directors of the original Battlestar Galactica made THAT series the First Cylon war.

@ScienceFictionJunky at last!, that dream will come true now that Caprica has ended(or possibly been canceled)....it covered most of what needed to be explained anyway....in an unpredictable sense too!, by the way i'm just getting into and only like 7 episodes in so I hope it turns out ot be worth the while until they finallt release battlestar galactica: blood and chrome(the first cylon war)

@Sekmeths The opening theme is different from this. Same notes, yes, but different instruments. The intro didn't really have much use for violins like this did.

they say frack so that they don't get censored. also, I haven't looked into it, but I doubt they're supposed to be speaking the same language we speak now, as english wasn't even developed until thousands of years after the fleet landed on our earth

In BSG they (the human ones) are completely new individuals, execpt for the final five who are sort of reincarnations. They don't explain exactly what the mechanical ones are.

I love all of the themes McCreary used in Caprica, but I actually wasn't a fan of the ending of this track. It felt like it just trailed off and ended with no resolution. I guess that kinda makes sense since it's the pilot, but I would have liked to have heard more resolution. Otherwise, beautiful score. I love the more lyrical and orchestral theme of it. And also, it's Bear McCreary. Everything that man does with music is unbelievably amazing.
It was a word used even in the original series even in the more conservative 1970s by the little kid Boxy, he said frack.

@abdulrhman92 censoring? It was essential to the original series I'd assume plus it makes it so that they don't need to bleep anything out on tv. It starts to sound normal after all of BSG

You say its distant from Galactica, but I wonder if you noticed in the actual pilot episode where Joseph Adama is hugging his son, William (good old Admiral Adama), a hint of the Adama theme runs through? I just went :O as soon as I heard it, I'm positive that is it though. Any thoughts?

Such a shame your predetermination surmounted to nothing. On episode 1:17 now. Still love it from time to teme, it is a bit slow, but when it's great, it is great. Shame RIP, S2 could have been amazing:) We'll never know!
