- 🚅 I thought it would be nice to add a simple video showing the routine operation and environment in which crossing systems in Japan are used. This video captures some interesting elements of Japanese motor law and culture such as the requirement to stop at all crossings and the courtesy displayed in leaving room ahead of the stopped cars for any vehicles or pedestrians which might wish to cross in front. Note the way the crossing bell volume decreases after the gate has closed.
Here are some Google Map coordinates for this video:
Camera position: 34.995671,138.43586
Gate: 34.995753,138.435931
Discover the everyday rhythm of a Japanese railroad crossing, where the mechanical and the human worlds intersect in a choreographed dance of safety and timing.
Kurt Bell invites you to experience the routine yet vital aspect of Japan's rail network. Watch as the barriers descend and the lights flash, signaling the approach of a train and the brief pause in the flow of life around the tracks. This video captures the essence of these crossings, a common scene that plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and order of Japan's renowned railway system. 🚅🚧🚦

How to trigger PTSD
1. Watch Neon Genesis Evanglion
2. Watch EoE
3. Go to Japan and listen to railroad crossing
Cleng, cleng cleng cleng.....
Yes I finally found!
it makes me feel insane lmao
You should add: watch Otherside Picnic to that list aswell.
My dude, i forgot where it was, i heard this and literally got Angel thesis play in my head
*shinji having a mental breakdown*
**CICADAS INTENSIFY**
GET IN A ROBOT SHINJI
Believe it or not this is my favorite sound when I'm watching a Japanese movie!!!
mine too
With some crows in the background
Oh no…
1:23
when all the crossing bars have closed, the sound lowers in order not to irritate the residents.
I swear to god, i cant hear this without getting PTSD of evangelion. Series left me more souless then ever i cant even watch another anime.
Hopefully you still have enough soul left to bring glory to Prussia
Agreed
True
That is it's intended purpose
You took from it exactly the opposite that it was intended to
Interesting how the volume of the bells are lowered when the gates come down.
Just like nederlands.
I like that the exit barrier closes a few seconds after the first, making it almost impossible for someone to get their car stuck in the middle. (Something the US could learn from!)
It's also cool having an indicator showing which side the train is coming from!
What type of bell is it?
@@VoxelLoop actually a lot of crossings in the US do this !
@@VoxelLoopWait, they don’t do it like that over there? That’s how we do it, I can’t imagine doing it differently.
Crossing starts at 1:05.
The Central Texas Railfan I was just watching your video!
Classic!
I love hearing these. Reminds me of the memories when I first saw a train pass by these crossings.
My favorite things about the Japanese crossing, the sound and the gates
0:53-1:03 Listen VERY carefully. With a good ear, you can just BARELY hear another railroad crossing in the distance.
It was very quiet.
TimaAmelins iOS i heard it as well
Heath Klotz yeah
ye
Heath Klotz I heard it 👌🏻🚈
That disturbing sound... ... if you know what I mean.
PrekiFromPoland what's the matter? Too many episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion?
PrekiFromPoland i o to chodzi... w Polsce to sygnał na przejazdach jest ledwie słyszalny.. sygnał powinien odstraszać idiotów

I love at how discipline Japanese people are. We should learn of it
Speaking of train crossings, the tone reminds me to the one in most crossings in Jakarta (Except few of them)
COD04MW ea ada ¥=£$£$ alias susah tulis nya
People who don't know: What a lovely sound!
Evangelion fans:
Maretu fans:
UMINAOSHIIIII
wrestling fans: Iyo Sky
This is a very interesting video! It shows the actions and customs of Japanese motorists at railroad crossings.
Yooo MARETU dropped a new banger 🔥🔥🔥
As seen from that one scene of every generic anime!
lol
When I was younger I would watch these videos and they would scare me to death
Hägerman This and the Cicada Chirping sound are in literally every anime I could think of
I first heard it in Mario kart 64
God I wish more anime had crossings
Save and reasonable! Thanks for the insight into japanese everyday life.
I love this sound.
I think that Mercedes at 1:50 was an import. The wheel was on the left side of the car, while all Japanese domestic vehicles are right-hand drive.
Damn Evangelion reference in Japan?!? 😳
Lets face it, you’re either a neon genesis fan here or a maretu fan.
that sound makes me very anxious
I used to watch this video as a baby
1. The gates here in japan are exactly the same in Malaysia (except a few in the northern Malaysia), maybe because of the co-operations between Malaysia and Japan. What does the railway gates here made of?
2. Is Japan using a sensor on the tracks so that the gates can be lowered if the train approaches? Cause in Malaysia, the gates are guarded manually. There is a man that will guard the gates and will close using a switch at the guardhouse.
1:52 that Mercedes CL C215 looks mint
I remember watching the Clannad movie and the part where Nagisa dies and it plays the crossing sounds as Okazaki is crying and saying “Nagisa” and then the sounds of the bells just echo, it’s kinda creepy
Anybody else love the Japanese?
Charles Randolph Just you. Nobody else. Not even the Japanese.
Charles Randolph TONA HIKA BANZI
Charles Randolph Me because of their candy and anime :3
Me
weird
I can listen this for whole life
Me:Why do I like this sound?
Dead anime characters who died from a train: I don’t know
Can’t believe they made an evangelion reference in real life!
It's interesting that any driver has to stop at a Japanese railway crossing no matter what the circumstances. Yet at Railway Crossings in Canada and the Contiguous US, drivers typically only have to stop, if:
- such a crossing has lights that are flashing or stop sign
- the previous bullet point doesn't apply but the vehicle is a bus or one that is carrying hazardous materials
yup listen you might hear the other railroad crossing i did
This sound always oddly takes me back to when I’m in Japan
If you hear this in anime, prepare yourself for some important event
In Indonesia, we have that kind of crossing only in Jakarta. There were used this type of crossing on Jakarta - Manggarai line but it were changed into flyover line. Some were still used, the lights still use light bulbs, few were used as a light and already use a LED light on a crossing without lights. Few were use a hi-lo siren (example: Jembatan Besi Rd and Truly Cik Ditiro Rd). Example: th-cam.com/video/KOjN_xtXTk4/w-d-xo.html
My grandma's old car had that exact same sound. Everytime I hear it, I buckle up.
I'd love to live in Japan
Great video
This sound gives me flash backs :(
“WHY ARE YOU HERE DAMN IT”
Misato San..
get in the robot shinji
where tf can I find a 10 hour version of that bell
Asking to my best friend to do an ASMR vid of the bell
This is why I love Japan.
That's because Mario Kart 64 was made in Japan :)
That fudging train alarm is just like the cicadas... so mesmerizingly evil sounding even if they're comparatively harmless.
Why are they black and yellow instead of red and white?
It's simply the convention in Japan that warning and danger signs of all kinds are black-and-yellow (like wasps -- don't mess with me; I'm trouble!) It's true that red-and-white is another "beware" combination also found in nature -- but perhaps they didn't go with that because they're Japan's national colours :)
For any international observation, you could ask "Why is it X instead of Y?", and then be asked the same question back in reverse (sarcastically or otherwise).
It could be inferred that you are saying red and white is better, because you used 'instead of'.
It's a big barrel of worms you can then open with what seems like an innocuous question.
Because its the country of japanese
1:06 crossing starts
Ahhh the classic sound heard in anime!
I love how the arrow tells you where the train is coming from
Can't get over how quite the are and peaceful it is! The house is very nice!
Keep hearing uminaoshi
great Video!
Iyo Sky type beat
Pov: youre listening to uminaoshi by maretu
That sound right before your favourite character gets hit by a train
*Evangelion PTSD*
The passing train gave me a moment to think about my response.
Should I voice an opposing viewpoint?
Maybe I should wax philosophical about her dilemma.
"I see."
I must be getting melancholic if that's the best I could come up with.
1:31: Wow! They think about what to do a hell lot better than many other countries. People are intelligent, polite, and well in Japan. Maybe one can give me a piece of knowledge when visiting Japan. Does this mean fewer car accidents in Japan?
They're good at reproducing too
i been to japan before and rode the bullet train when for there for a two week vaction to see my sister who teaching there and tour the county we came to almost 200mph on the bullet train
Bloom Into You
What's the name of Japanese Railroad crossings electronic bell?
Literally in every drama and movie
Nice video
In more animes and mangas the Crossing Railroad appareance in more episodes in the characters is crossing of the Morning and evening to work, school or her home
I Am Closely Watching All My Railroad Crossing Since Of Canada Saying "All
People Who Run Railroad Crossings Are Idiots" I’m Japan
How long can a gate get in Japan? In switzerland, the old ones can get max 12 meters long and the new one up to 20 meters :)
pov : io shirais theme song
Exactly what I was gonna comment 😂
Excellent 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Shinji wait, the train is coming.
Mina saiko arigato ka-ka-kawaii
these are so much better than american ones and the people are better at knowing how to not get killed too!
1:94 skip to the crossing lowering
Io shirai
Its a very safety system:
- conspicuous yellow & black,
- First the semi-barriers get down, than the other semi-barriers. Every car between the barriers can pass the tracks befor the crossing is completely closed.
It´s great.
This reminds me of the scene when Light was walking home with the death note 🤺🤔👏😎✌🇯🇵
Is that the nobita's home?
I want to live in Japan, too
AxiomaticSystem, Excuse me, can you speak Japanese?
TimaAmelins iOS My brother posted this and I have no clue why
You would be amazed at how many English signs there are in Japan. Not that I would want to live there.
that railroad crossing sound in evangelion, its not really that traumatizing but yeah it is unnerving
Dodeska-den, dodeska-den, dodeska-den .......the sound the train makes on the tracks.
Scratch 3.0 sped it up. I tried to record the sound.
Weird but cool
And thus, a fandom was spawned
1:51 That white car with the steering wheel at left, is it legal in Japan?
what happens if we don't make a complete stop before crossing it?
All that fuss over a 2-car EMU
Vid starts at 1:05
Is it ok if i use this in an edit of mine?^^
Mario kart 64 memories
Hitogata, eh, anyone?
IYO SKY
This sound made me remember of your lie in April
"Get in the damn robot shinji"
io shirai?
Shizuoka Railway, Shizuoka, Japan
It sounds like an anime. Why does Japan get all the cool stuff?
Does anyone know what the e-bells in Japan are called?
I believe they chuck a speaker on a pole and give it an audio chip. It is kinda cool, Innit?
if theres shinkanshens
this is a weird thing, but i came here to see if i
was right in that Tyler the Creator sampled this sound on his new song CORSO. still don’t know if he did or not but i’m pretty sure he did.
My brain while doing a test lol
