🚅 Japan Railroad Crossing - Japan Train Videos

  • 🚅 I thought it would be nice to add a simple video showing the routine operation and environment in which crossing systems in Japan are used. This video captures some interesting elements of Japanese motor law and culture such as the requirement to stop at all crossings and the courtesy displayed in leaving room ahead of the stopped cars for any vehicles or pedestrians which might wish to cross in front. Note the way the crossing bell volume decreases after the gate has closed.
    Here are some Google Map coordinates for this video:
    Camera position: 34.995671,138.43586
    Gate: 34.995753,138.435931
    Discover the everyday rhythm of a Japanese railroad crossing, where the mechanical and the human worlds intersect in a choreographed dance of safety and timing.
    Kurt Bell invites you to experience the routine yet vital aspect of Japan's rail network. Watch as the barriers descend and the lights flash, signaling the approach of a train and the brief pause in the flow of life around the tracks. This video captures the essence of these crossings, a common scene that plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and order of Japan's renowned railway system. 🚅🚧🚦

    1. The gates here in japan are exactly the same in Malaysia (except a few in the northern Malaysia), maybe because of the co-operations between Malaysia and Japan. What does the railway gates here made of?
    2. Is Japan using a sensor on the tracks so that the gates can be lowered if the train approaches? Cause in Malaysia, the gates are guarded manually. There is a man that will guard the gates and will close using a switch at the guardhouse.

    It's interesting that any driver has to stop at a Japanese railway crossing no matter what the circumstances. Yet at Railway Crossings in Canada and the Contiguous US, drivers typically only have to stop, if:
    - such a crossing has lights that are flashing or stop sign
    - the previous bullet point doesn't apply but the vehicle is a bus or one that is carrying hazardous materials

    In Indonesia, we have that kind of crossing only in Jakarta. There were used this type of crossing on Jakarta - Manggarai line but it were changed into flyover line. Some were still used, the lights still use light bulbs, few were used as a light and already use a LED light on a crossing without lights. Few were use a hi-lo siren (example: Jembatan Besi Rd and Truly Cik Ditiro Rd). Example: th-cam.com/video/KOjN_xtXTk4/w-d-xo.html

    Why are they black and yellow instead of red and white?

    • @Ynysmydwr
      @Ynysmydwr 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      It's simply the convention in Japan that warning and danger signs of all kinds are black-and-yellow (like wasps -- don't mess with me; I'm trouble!) It's true that red-and-white is another "beware" combination also found in nature -- but perhaps they didn't go with that because they're Japan's national colours :)

    • @AndrooUK
      @AndrooUK 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For any international observation, you could ask "Why is it X instead of Y?", and then be asked the same question back in reverse (sarcastically or otherwise).
      It could be inferred that you are saying red and white is better, because you used 'instead of'.
      It's a big barrel of worms you can then open with what seems like an innocuous question.
