Thank you for sharing. Two years ago I became aware of Jan Baalsrud's story with Netflix "The Twelfth Man", I now own a DVD copy. Living in Northern California I was smitten by the story. At the same time I met a Norwegian online whom I now have visited twice; he lives in Tromsø. I am planning another trip this September for a 3 month stay, and hope my friend will drive me to the Savoy Hotel and Manndalen to pay homage to Jan Baalsrud at his grave site. Your video gave me more visual insight on how to follow in your footsteps, perhaps all the way to Baalsrud Cave.

Thank you. If you have not done so may I suggest reading David Howarth, We Die Alone. ISBN: 1-84195-045-9. The original story of Jan's escape and the more recent (2000) Defiant Courage by Astrid Karlsen Scott ISBN : 0-9634339-8-9. The latter dealing in greater depth with many of the characters that both helped and hindered Jan.
Tromso, The Paris of the North. Its a lot further South but The Norsk Hydro Plant in Rukan Telemark is well worth a visit and is a prominent raid in WW2 history. The Heroes of Telemark. Kirk Douglas etc.

@@mappazz Thank you. Before coming upon your video post I watched th-cam.com/video/eoiUG0x9yjc/w-d-xo.html which has English subtitles. And before that I watched the multipart posts of a young Norwegian who retraced the entire escape route from Rebbenes Island all the way to Sweden th-cam.com/video/XknsVQl2t6M/w-d-xo.html
I have fallen in love with Norway and Norwegians. On my first visit to my Norwegian friend in Tromsø in May 2022, we took a 3 1/2 hour speed ferry to Harstad to visit the Trondenes Historical Museum and 14C kirk. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trondenes_Historical_Center Besides, interest in Viking history I also have a strong interest in the Saami People, which is why I want to visit Manndalen. My second trip to Tromsø in July 2023 I wanted to attend the Riddu Riddu festival, but my trip was cut short; perhaps another time. th-cam.com/video/C7Zo6L_8rEE/w-d-xo.html
While in Tromsø I discovered the site of a Nazi prisoner of war camp on the south side of the island near Telegrafbukta. I also read and found some of the brass plaques in the sidewalk in front of homes where Norwegian Jews were removed and taken to concentration camps in Germany never to be seen again.
Thanks for the Rjukan Telemark suggestion, but I am concentrating my time and limited finances on the Troms og Finnmark area.

That part of Norway has numerous camps from WW2 where many Russians were enslaved to work, as well as Patriotic Norwegians. @@rhyacinthlevrini6577

    Great video.
Here's a link to another video made by one of the actors in the movie The 12th man. It's a tribute to Jan Baalsrud and contains an interview with one of the helpers on the farm were he was hidden in the barn:

Thank you for the link. We have seen The Twelfth Man, however we will watch again. The story itself is unbelievable and more so once you see the countryside. In winter it seems impossible. A lot of very brave men and women helped and were prepared to offer the ultimate sacrifice. Takk.
