R.I.P. to your friend. That TRP is a great gun. I had one just like it. I would have kept it if I had known that Springfield Armory was going to shelve it's Custom Shop, eschew customer service, and focus on entry level 1911's and the Prodigy's; to the exclusion of everything else.

The TRP should have the least kick, and it should be the most accurate, hard to image the TRP gave your friend issues, I'd suspect it from the 4" Commander size pistol first. 5" is standard the Commander is 4 "

Well once you buy a SA 1911 u don't have to fool with none of the internals .and if you ever have a problem with SA the have a life time warranty long as you don't do anything stupid to the gun
