  • In this video we feature another new product from Revolt Systems, the Coolant Delete kit. Eddy breaks down a common issue we have been seeing in Tesla LDUs & explains how this product bypasses that issue if caught in time. Snow also does a live demonstration of how fast it is to install this product once the LDU has been removed.

      Compessed air? To cool it with air? An an exchange unit to transfer that heat to the coolant? But that's not one simple trick they can sell... Now I cast that idea to the big players that can make it, I'll see it in a few years being made, and shrug my shoulders at it.

    I had a notification on my dashboard that I should contact Tesla service center when I did I guess they ran a diagnostic on the car over the Wi-Fi and told me I need to bring the car in and they're going to swap out the rear motor on my 2019 Model X performance, even though I wasn't having any issues driving around or noises, they replaced it within a couple hours and off I went. I'm guessing maybe some sort of sensor said it was leaking inside and maybe that's why they replaced my motor even though it was running fine? Rear motor that is.

  • @dglennon20
    @dglennon20 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    $550 for $12 worth of metal? Is NASA making this? How about $75? These motors are on eBay for $1500 not $5000. You are inflating the cost to sell this nice, but overpriced piece. I got an out of warranty quote to replace my small front drive unit from Tesla and it was $6400 and included axles ($1k) and labor.

    Hopefully the clones don't nullify the hard effort put in, before sufficient return for the time/effort. Should definitely implement an etched unique barcode(a low power fiberlaser should do it), to keep track of the original units. The best seal is no seal. Sounds like the rotor will no longer get liquid cooling with this delete kit, but apparently air cooling to the housing from it spinning suffices. Wonder why Tesla never tried that during development since a liquid seal on a high-speed shaft was surely of concern for reliability, including warranty repairs.

    • @revoltsystems
      @revoltsystems  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We still cool the entire motor and this kit just bypasses the rotor that does not need it. Tesla is doing this in the new "U" version of the LDU

    • @sophiegrisom
      @sophiegrisom 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@revoltsystems Great. I saw earlier youtubes from a company which re-engineered the seal design and offered a retrofit if you ship the LDU to them. But, perhaps didn't prove much more reliable. No seal is best. Perhaps the biggest concern is if the rotor warmed past the Curie point of the permanent magnets in the rotor, which would ruin them. If so, then Tesla would have major recall problems, but appears that isn't a concern.

    So no more rotor cooling. It gets very hot now, the grease melts out of the bearings and they fail? I mean Tesla had good reasons to cool those rotors. In the Small DU they switched to oil cooling but they still cool the rotor.

      @kathleenweiss2326 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Been driving with one for some time now in a race car that is pushed much harder than the daily driver will ever do. No issues and the LDU did not cool the rotor enough to make any impact. They tried to use the heat from the rotor to normalize the temperature in the gear box, this also was a design flaw by Tesla.

      The stator and inverter are still cooled. Just the rotor is bypassed since the seals are extremely problematic and prone to leaking coolant into the stator windings and inverter. These are some of the earliest Tesla motors and have a few engineering flaws. Their new motors use ATF to cool the stator and rotor. Eliminating the problem.

      It looks like the trick is getting the long tube out of the motor. There isn't clearance to do it with the motor mounted in my car. It would seem that a determined person might be able to pull that original cover off and away from the motor an inch until it hit the car structure and cut the tube, pull more out, cut it again and repeat until the whole tube is out of the motor. Great care would be required to avoid metal bits from getting into the exposed motor.

    • @revoltsystems

      Unfortunately you need to pull the sub frame down. We were able to do it without removing the motor from the axles but still needed to pull it down.
